Developer Insight: Universal Upgrade System Improvements for Dragonflight Season 3

LMFY8RNPA18A1697675213969.png

Dragonflight is an expansion that has introduced many changes to World of Warcraft, and one of the most significant changes is the introduction of the new universal upgrade system in Embers of Neltharion. We're seeing it have a healthy effect on the game, but there's still room for improvement. In our Developer Insight article, we take you a little deeper into what's new in Guardians of the Dream and Dragonflight Season 3. [Learn More]

Mythic+

Dragonflight Season 3 Mythic+ brings new dungeons to the Mythic+ rotation:

  • Dawn of the Infinite: Galakrond's Fall
  • Dawn of the Infinite: Murozond's Rise
  • Waycrest Manor (Battle for Azeroth)
  • Atal'Dazar (Battle for Azeroth)
  • Darkheart Thicket (Legion)
  • Black Rook Hold (Legion)
  • The Everbloom (Warlords of Draenor)
  • Throne of the Tides (Cataclysm)

The new seasonal rewards for Mythic+ include the two new titles, "the Dreaming" and "the Dreaming Hero," dungeon teleports, and a new coloration of the Mythic+ Armoredon mount: Verdant Armoredon.

PvP

The new season also brings a new PvP Ladder, increased item level gear, and new rewards: Arena title: "Verdant Gladiator," Rated Solo Shuffle title: "Verdant Legend," a new weapon illusion, tabard, cloak, pennant, weapon appearances, Verdant Gladiator's Slitherdrake dragonriding appearance, and new Vicious mounts–Alliance and Horde-themed Moonbeasts.

New World Boss: Aurostor the Hibernating

Aurostor follows a strict sleep regimen, and one must never poke a sleeping bear. However, Fyrakk's assault on the Emerald Dream has disturbed the Furbolg Wild God's precious sleep cycle, rousing him from his slumber too soon. Completely deprived of sleep, a raging Aurostar attacks any passersby, attempting to wear himself out.

We're looking at how many raid bosses each World of Warcraft expansion has introduced.
This chart, created by Reddit user throwaway4201251315, lays out the count of raid bosses across all WoW expansions, including Dragonflight.

The chart's fine details are hard to make out, but it's clear that the original Vanilla version launched with the highest number of raid bosses (about 55-60), whereas Dragonflight had the fewest (around 25-30), a figure similar to what we saw in Cataclysm. Notably, Blizzard's decision to skip .3 patches and the introduction of Fated Raids have contributed to a declining trend in the number of raid bosses in both Shadowlands and Dragonflight.
It seems that players generally prefer raids with 8-9 bosses, finding larger raids like Ny'alotha and Sepulcher to be exhausting.

Collecting mounts really has become as much of a part of WoW as raiding, dungeons, questing and PvP at this point, as players constantly want more and more. Today we're taking a look at another hirumaredx video, this time focusing on the 10 rarest mounts players can still obtain today!
While I'm sure this list will be disputed, it's still fun to see what could be considered some of the most rare rides on Azeroth, especially if you happen to own one already! The list is based off of both drop chances and actual difficulty to obtain, as the first one is basically a 100% "drop", but will take a long time to get.

One of the Trading Post activities this month requires players to kill the Lich King for Tender and one lucky player went to Icecrown Citadel and looted Invincible's Reins!
Title Description Travel Points Defeat the Lich King   Kill the Lich King in the Icecrown Citadel.   50 50 Tender convinced naturzaros to visit Icecrown Citadel and kill the Lich King who was very generous in return and dropped Invincible's Reins.

The axe-wielding, tree-burning dragon has a sense of humor, as he will laugh at anyone that dies to his fire during the raid encounter (and you get an achievement if you didn't get it before!
The Still Standing in the Fire achievement came along with patch 10.1 and Fyrakk Assaults. It was a little tricky to get as you had to find where to stand and die to the fire, which didn't really 1-shot you. Luckily with 10.2, it got a whole lot easier (well, for raiders anyway). The achievement is named after the original, where Deathwing had to kill you either during the Dragon Soul raid or when he was breathing all over Azeroth.
As spotted by ah_kooky_kat, dying to Fyrakk in the raid also triggers the achievement, and he still laughs at you!

The very old-school WeakAura in the screenshot also got a lot of attention the the thread below.
