Side-by-Side "Old" World Dragonriding Full Speed and 10.2.5 Slowed Comparison

Recommended Posts

Some players have been concerned about the announced reduction in Dragonriding speed coming with its addition to everywhere outside the Dragon Isles. Blizzard announced a 20% decrease to Dragonriding speeds when the feature spreads everywhere with patch 10.2.5, explaining that the zones are were just too small compared to the Dragon Isles and travel would have been trivially short.

And it seems this is one of those things that sounds worse than it is, as 664% move speed (compared to the 830% maximum in Dragon Isles) is still pretty solid, as it's more than double than what we have with regular flying mounts now. So now that we know the numbers and reasoning, let's see what it actually looks like with a live side-by-side and make up our own minds, courtesy of Nattax1, who definitely made their mind up. The comparison is between their own run on the PTR now and some footage of the Dragonflight beta from Liquid's Max.

So, what do you think of the change? Too slow or just fine?

Just fine. Normal flying could have used +100 % speed as a bonus as well tho.

maybe everyone should walk again and blizz should delete mounts

Thanks for the ongoing updates on this.  I'm pretty intrigued with there being improvements to old world flying -- finally.

Imo this is a rather simple invention but a system done really well. It was hard to imagine the kind of 3d and life that it brings to the landscape, before I played it.

To be honest the thing that strikes me about that video is it looks easier to control. Might just be a difference in mouse sensitivity but even though the beta video is controlling it well he's noticeably twitcher.

If the 10.2 'oops you hit a tree' ability doesn't get carried over I'd probably prefer the slower but steadier speed.

"Feels bad" ?!? who is this drama queen lol

Looks pretty great to me. Very happy they got the loading tech worked out for the old world. I wonder how they did that.

Yes, that would be nice.  Increasing normal flight speed even 50% would be incredibly helpful while still ensuring that their dragonriding baby is still fastest.

Reddit user Bonelord911 tried to organize all specializations by their alignment to the cosmology chart and here's the result!
There's just one slight inconsistency as ItisCaleb and Evonyte pointed out. Monks should be at Spirit, close to reality, since the Chi is a Spirit element according to the Chronicles.

The individual items that comprise the Dark Ranger General's transmog set have been added in the latest Patch 10.2.5 build. The armor set allows players to resemble Sylvanas Windrunner.
Hunters will probably be happy with the addition of the Dark Ranger General's armor set! Here's a preview of the set. At this time, the source of the ensemble remains unknown. It is possibly tied to the Gilnean Reclamation or Trading Post, we'll see.

Blizzard added a new Night Elf child model in this week's Patch 10.2.5 build.
The model is used NPCs that have moved to Bel'ameth and Belanaar harbor, as indicated in the latest development notes.

Many Night Elves are now starting to arrive in Bel’ameth and Belanaar harbor to settle in their new homes. In addition to these new hubs, explore other areas across the island to find new night elf cosmetic treasures. Here's a detailed look at the new model. The model looks a bit creepy and the feet are somewhat low texture. Hopefully this will get fixed in a future build.

For more details about the new Night Elf home, check the detailed zone preview by MrGM. Did you know Bel'ameth is a neutral city? Even Horde players can enter!

This week's Patch 10.2.5 build brought an updated map of Amirdrassil.
We're talking about the non-phased Amirdrassil zone available to everyone in the latest update. For comparison, here's the old map from the previous PTR build.

And here's the updated map from this week's Patch 10.2.5 build. Bel'ameth has been marked on the map along with other areas like Belanaar port.

Amirdrassil has also been added to the world map in the previous PTR build.

The new Night Elf home Bel'aneth added in Patch 10.2.5 is a neutral city. However, Horde players who enter the city will see a debuff informing them that they are being watched.
The debuff's name is Eyes of the Sentinels and the tooltip reads: Seen and unseen eyes alike are watching your every move.
