Plunderstorm

  • Player matchmaking ratings (MMR) have been adjusted so that players should find themselves in better matches with continued play.
  • Fixed a bug that caused plunder dropped by players on death to unintentionally despawn when the killed player left the match.
  • Players are now immune to knockbacks when standing near Da’kash Grimledger in the preparation area.
  • Adjusted experience gained when playing Duos and fixed a bug that was increasing experience gain at level 3.
  • Fire Whirl Fire Whirl Movement speed bonus reduced to 70% across all ranks (was 140%).
    • Developers’ notes: Our goal is to balance Fire Whirl’s effectiveness relative to the performance of other offensive spells without detracting from the effectiveness of other utility spells.
  • Star Bomb Star Bomb cast time reduced to 2 seconds across all ranks (was 2.25 seconds).
    • Developers’ notes: We’d like to improve the effectiveness of this ability.
  • Toxic Smackerel Toxic Smackerel cooldown reduced at ranks 1, 2, and 3. Rank 4 unchanged.
    • Developers’ note: This is intended to ensure this ability is more in-line with expected power at early levels.
  • Explosive Caltrops Explosive Caltrops trap radius increased by 40%.
    • Developers’ notes: The traps placed by Explosive Caltrops are intended to counter close-range aggression, but this felt a bit inconsistent because the traps were smaller than intended.
  • Lightning Bulwark Lightning Bulwark channel time increased to 2 seconds (was 1.25 seconds).
    • Developers’ notes: Our goal here is to extend the potential window for counter play opportunities.

The pre-patch is upon us! It's all very chaotic still, and we're taking a look at the extremely preliminary rankings for Amirdrassil, as both NA and EU have had at least a day to dive into the raid with the new class changes. And oh boy have things changed, as Beast Mastery is tearing it up (with a hotfixed older set feature)!

Again keep in mind this is mostly for fun, as there are very few logs to take a look at.
Note: We are using Normalized scores instead of raw DPS for the Warcraft Logs rankings. Normalized scores take into account the outlier boss fights where certain specs could stack massive DPS (due to the nature of the fight, whether it's AoE spam or something else), which would then affect their overall score for the whole raid.
      Mythic
      Overall Damage 95th Percentile
Hunters relatively rarely have their time, but oh boy is Beast Mastery taking advantage of the chaos of the pre-patch! Ahead in every category, the spec is tearing it up and even managed to snag some nerfs in the very first hotfixes, as the Season 3 set had it dominating (you can check out the hotfixes here). In the not-OP category we have the two Warriors fighting it out for 2nd, while Elemental and Frost DK are a bit less even in 4th and 5th. Retribution hangs on well, as Feral makes an appearance in 7th, and Augmentation takes advantage of the somewhat better tracking of its DPS in 9th. The other two Hunters are slightly less happy, as they are down in the bottom, joining Demo and Outlaw.

95th percentile Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Overall Damage All Percentiles
BM is BMing in the generalist bracket as well, as the rest is pretty similar to the top percentiles, with Arms triumphing over Fury and Frost DK over Elemental instead. We have two Warlocks in the bottom, joined by Outlaw, but the middle of the pack specs are pretty close.
All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Boss Only Damage All Percentiles
The boss only stats are also very similar to the overall ones, with Fury doing a little worse, but the rest being pretty much the same.
All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Heroic
      Overall Damage All Percentiles
Even Heroic has BM dominating! Assassination is doing better here, but the top 10 is pretty much the same specs just re-arranged. Frost DK is the biggest loser down in 10th, but the spec has always done much better in the higher difficulties and percentiles.

All percentiles Heroic data by Warcraft Logs.

Meanwhile, if you're looking for more information you can check out our class guides, updated for the pre-patch, or the Vault, Aberrus and Amirdrassil boss guides, the raid DPS tier list, as well as more data from Warcraft Logs here.

The War Within pre-patch introduced several bugs. One notable issue affects the Tusks of Mannoroth, which reduces your Strength by 1.
Instead of increasing stats, equipping the Tusks of Mannoroth from Garrosh Hellscream actually results in a loss of stats. It appears that Blizzard's recent item adjustments have caused some unintended problems. Given the complexity of balancing content across ten expansions, such issues are not entirely surprising.

The latest War Within Beta build comes with hints that the Awakening the Machine event in the Ringing Deeps may have been scrapped.
Many lines referring to the Awakening the Machine event have been removed from the database files in the most recent War Within Beta build, suggesting Blizzard may have decided to scrap it entirely!

The outdoor event revolved around defeating waves of mobs while keeping an NPC alive. It was extremely buggy on the Beta with mobs not despawning upon reaching 0 health.
Here's a short overview of the event from our previous article:
Awakening the Machine Outdoor Event Overview
At the beginning of the event you must talk to Speaker Kuldas to get started.

When you click at the box at the beginning, you can choose from one out of three Awakening Powers for your run. These work just like Torghast Anima Powers, empowering your character in various ways.

When you start the event, your goal is to keep the Speaker alive while he conducts the Rites of Awakening.

Every 5 waves, there's a small break and you can select an additional Awakening Power to aid you in defending Kuldas. When his health reaches 0, you must start from the beginning.

The run ends when you defeat 20 cummulative waves of mobs. One of the new War Within weekly quests lets you select this activity and awards 1 Treasure Trove Key used in Bountiful Delves to open a Bountiful Treasure Trove.

You can buy additional Awakening Powers at various Renown ranks with the Assembly of the Deeps faction from R-K-MEDES in the Ringing Deeps.

For the exact location, check out the player arrow on the map below.

It's Not Much, But It's Honest Work requires players to defeat the Awakened Phalax in Awakening The Machine for the Machine Defense Unit 1-11 mount.

Blizzard has added a shiny new login screen in the latest War Within Beta build. Check it out!
The previous War Within login screen has been replaced with a new one. It shows Dornogal, the capital city of the new expansion.
It almost looks like a portal.

You can watch the animations and music in ZINK's latest video.
