Passenger Mounts Make Players Take Much More and Do Less Damage

Recommended Posts

There's a very interesting bug going around with the Chauffeured Chopper Chauffeured Chopper and seemingly other NPC-equipped mounts, as players have been receiving a LOT more damage while riding them! Luckily it's not related to max level characters, but it's fascinating nonetheless, so let's dive in.

There have been a few posts surrounding this in the community, as players noticed getting double to 10-20x more damage and more while riding the chopper mount. This didn't get much attention, but then came in with some video proof:

As you can see, the attacks go from doing the expected 5-ish damage, to a SLIGHTLY higher 100-120! Several other players chimed in to say that it's not just a chopper bug, but that they've also experienced it with other mounts, citing the Reins of the Grand Expedition Yak Reins of the Grand Expedition Yak, which also has NPCs on it. In fact, it seems it's any passenger-related mount (excluding Dragonriding mounts, as they have separate mechanics), as even the Sandstone Drake Sandstone Drake is affected!

But that's not all, as you'll also be doing a lot less damage when you start casing while mounted on such mounts! This bug is even weirder, as the damage will be shown as normal over the mob, but will do a lot less actual damage to it:

It seems there's some bug happening related to the scaling of the NPCs, and possibly Chromie Time-Related as well, since it doesn't appear work with max level characters and it also doesn't work on Exile's Reach. tried to get into the details:

I think it could be one of two things:

1: The game sees that the mob is "L60" [as all mobs scale up to that level in Chromie Time, except on Exile's Reach, since you can't enter Chromie Time there], and treats the player as being "L40", since they're being driven around by their Chauffeur, who only scales up in level to 40. [...except this theory might not be entirely right, since the multiplier for increased damage seems to go down as the player levels their character, since a L1 gets hit for ~28.25x damage, the L8/9 got hit for ~14.23x damage, and the L20 got hit for only ~3.85x damage.]

2: The game is treating the player as a mob when sitting in the passenger seat of the chauffeured mechano-hog, and for some reason considering incoming attacks as player attacks.

EDIT 2: After further testing, this bug applies to any mount that can carry passengers (Traveler's Tundra Mammoth, Grand Black War Mammoth, Grand Ice Mammoth, Grand Expedition Yak, Longboi...)

The specific trigger and details of how the bug works are unclear, but you may want to avoid mounts with NPCs on them (and even the Sandstone Drake) if you don't want to get destroyed!

The legendarily movement-impaired Death Knights finally get some love in that department in the War Within (well, at least outdoors)!
The Rider of the Apocalypse Hero tree is bringing mobility to DKs, with the On a Paler Horse talent allowing players to mount their Acherus Deathcharger while in combat. Unfortunately the Hero tree is only available to Frost and Unholy specs, so the tanks will have to drag themselves around as they have so far. The talent won't work inside raids and dungeons, but you can just switch over to the Death Charge talent instead, which gets an extra charge from Death's Echo as well, for two 10-second movement bursts.

We've all seen the giant Hallowfall crystal and just how great it looks, but as it turns out, the light emanating from it actually changes in a sort of strange day/night cycle, and we get a really awesome transition into Void light animation!
First off we can see a snippet of the change in Blizzard's official short preview of the zone:
And then there's this extended look at the switch, showcasing just how impressive the animations are, by PreachGaming's Chunkeyninja:
And here's a slightly better look at the Void to Light transition, courtesy of Kexman:
The exact timing on the cycle isn't 100% clear, but MrGM noted how it works on the Alpha right now, with a 3 hour cycle, as the Void part remains active for 30 minutes:

Hopefully we'll also get some lore to go with the transition, as the light into void thing is pretty thematically interesting, as well as being really visually impressive.
