A little bit of DPS help

Recommended Posts

Hey there!

So after many years, I finally decided that I would try to start and join a casual raiding guild. I know that MM hunters are supposed to be up there on the DPS charts (as some of my friends are) but I have yet to actually reach there.

Here's my armory.

Here's a log after about 5 mins and 20 seconds on a dummy.

I know I did lose some DPS from Chimera (I could've done 35 while I only did 34) but other than that, I am using CDs when I can and I am prioritizing AiS when TotH is up while still keeping enough focus to Chimera off CD. I'm somewhat lost as I am really trying to get to 17k-19k DPS consistently where most of the MM hunters my iLvl are and any help is greatly appreciated!

EDIT: I am really stupid and completely forgot to use Glaive Toss. I'll add a log with glaive toss in a second.

Here it is with Glaive Toss.

It goes up by about 1k, which is probably to be expected, but it still leaves me desiring more.

Again, thanks for the help!

Checking DPS on dummy is really not useful, since you will be missing most buffs, and you will always be stuck in Careful Aim phase and unable to use Kill Shot, which is a considerable DPS boost.

If you really wanna check your real live DPS, I suggest going into LFR and fight against Butcher.

Simcraft shows your gear to be able to dish out 21.5k DPS average, but no human can play like that. 20k sounds like a more reasonable goal.

If DPS really is your goal, you might want to consider switching to Survival, unless you're a huge Marksmanship fan. Reaching your maximum potential is much easier for SV, because you don't have to worry about cooldowns, target HP phases and keeping Sniper Training up.

With your gear SV sims for the same 21.5k DPS.

Wow, haha. You're right I am looking too much into just having a dummy. I did LFR, as you said, and this is what happened when I have all buffs, pre-potted/flask/augment.

Which happens to be where I pretty much want to be with my gear. I never really had pots or augments before, so maybe that's why I felt a bit lacking.

Also, I have inv_misc_trinket6oog_isoceles1.jpgBloodmaw's Tooth with a 35 crit gem in. Should I use Primal Combatant's Insignia of Conquest? It seems to me proc trinkets are better than the straight stats ones but crit is a needed stat for MM. The current weight (looking at Niix's guide) for Bloodmaw's is 282.1 and the PvP trinket with 16.56, but I have no idea what the proc rate is.

Again, thanks for the help!

Glad it worked out for you.

The only way to know which gear piece is better is to sim it and compare. I simmed it for you, and you shouldn't change one of your current trinkets for Combatant's Insignia.
