Home to fire and poison-based monsters, this zone is not a place you want to take lightly, as you will have to fight the environment just as much as the creatures! However, there are high-value minerals and crafting materials to be found, making the area a high-risk, high-reward hunting ground for well-prepared hunters.

Oilwell Basin

Oilwell Basin

The Oilwell Basin is the third area you will explore and one of the more extreme environments in the Forbidden Lands, filled with bubbling tar pits, scorching geysers, and deep underground caverns. It is a harsh, unforgiving landscape, home to powerful creatures that have adapted to the intense heat and toxic fumes. If you are going to hunt in this zone, you need to come prepared, as the region’s hazards can be just as deadly as its monsters.

The region experiences an Inclemency known as the Firespring, where intense fires ignite across the landscape, creating a hazardous environment for hunters.

Environmental Hazards and Features

  • Oil Pools: Scattered throughout the basin, these can impede movement and are highly flammable during the Firespring.

The Oilwell Basin is the third area that hunters unlock, and is also affected by three different weather states:

Hunting Tips

  • Equip Heat-Resistant Gear: The Firespring significantly raises temperatures; appropriate gear can mitigate heat damage.
  • Use Water-Based Weapons: Many monsters here are weak to water attacks due to their fire affinity.
  • Avoid Igniting Oil Pools: During combat, be cautious of attacks that can set the environment ablaze, creating additional hazards.
  • Avoid Tar Pits: They slow movement and leave you vulnerable to attacks.
  • Use the Environment: Explosive geysers can knock down monsters if timed correctly.

Lore and Background

Oilwell Basin

Once a big mining hub, the Oilwell Basin has become a hostile and unstable region due to ongoing volcanic activity. Pools of thick oil bubble up from beneath the ground, and geysers of superheated steam erupt without warning. The Azuz tribe has learned to work with the land, harnessing its geothermal energy to power their Everforge; a vital tool for crafting weapons and armor. While the area is filled with remnants of ancient machinery, it is also said to be home to creatures that lurk deep within the caves, guarding secrets lost to time.
