TU 2 Changes for Insect Glaive HR Gear

Title Update 2 brought us two new monsters to fight, with Seregios and Lagiacrus joining the fray. While Seregios does not offer too much in terms of optimizations for gear, as his weapons and armor do not manage to beat out our previous armor sets in any way, Lagiacrus is the one we will be farming for a little while until we can craft some of their armor pieces.

You can still rock the Arch-Tempered Rey Dau set if you have it, although relying on Latent Power for much of your Affinity is a playstyle that few truly enjoy. Switching to the new best setup that incorporates some of the Lagiacrus pieces allows you to drop Latent Power, which makes for more consistent damage.

The full set is unfortunately not worth playing, but we will be picking two of the pieces for our new best in slot endgame gear, the Helmet and the Belt. The set bonus itself provides a small amount of Affinity, 15% with the 2p for 20 seconds, and we will build around this by aiming for 85% Affinity without the bonus active. The uptime on this bonus is quite low, but it is a nice bonus when it is active, without having to rely on it like is the case with Latent Power. You will also deal an additional yet small amount of Lightning damage thanks to the set, but this is completely negligible. Still, we're not gonna say no to some extra damage.

Unfortunately, the new setup brings us back to a 2p Gore Magala set bonus as well, which some players do not like, so if you want to avoid playing around Frenzy, you can still stick with the full AT Rey Dau gear set listed below.

2.

Arch-Tempered Rey Dau for the Insect Glaive

Arch-Tempered Rey Dau, often simply called AT Rey Dau, is a temporary event encounter you can fight during the event's duration. It started on April 29th, and you were able to fight the boss and get the AT Rey Dau Armor pieces up until May 13th.

The Armor Piece comes with multiple benefits for Insect Glaive users, and ends up beating out the current best gear combination by a noticeable margin. That being said, it is heavily centered around the skill Latent Power which only triggers after being in combat for 2 minutes, OR when taking 130+ damage in a single hit. However, even at very low uptime, the set matches the DPS performance of our current best set, and when triggering Latent Power reliably, it outperforms any other armor combination by about ~10% Raw damage.

If you plan on switching to this set, it is recommended to take the following setup:

  • Rey Sandhelm γ
  • Rey Sandmail γ
  • Rey Sandbraces γ
  • Rey Sandcoil γ
  • Dahaad Shardgreaves β

Your Decorations of choice should be two Challenger Jewels (2), one Chain Jewel (3), as well as an Earplugs Jewel (2). This setup will outperform any sets that use Frenzy from the Gore Magala set, even at low Latent Power uptime.

The other benefit of the AT Rey Dau set, is its group skill Lord's Soul, which grants a 5% Attack buff as long as you didn't cart yet. If you did, then the Attack Power bonus changes to a Defense one. In order to avoid losing this benefit, you can get the cart-protection, which is called Moxie, from a Food effect as well, which will take priority over the Moxie effect from the set itself.

Since this set might only be available temporarily, it will not be listed in the best setup linked below.

3.

Insect Glaive HR 10-35 Armor Set

When starting out in HR, you're best advised to simply equip the full Arkveld set from LR in order to have enough defense to withstand getting hit a few times, until you unlock the bosses needed for the equipment set listed below.

The below combination of items should allow you to get an easy start into High Rank, all the way to around Hunter Rank 35. To obtain the pieces, you will have to defeat Guardian Ebony, Guardian Rathalos, and a regular Rathalos a few times in order to gather all the materials.

At this point, decorations are not really worth farming directly. Just use whatever you have, either to boost your current skills, add something new, or get a bit more defense if early High Rank fights are giving you trouble. That said, things should get easier soon. As you progress, you will unlock passive resource farms, so you will not need to grind for materials as much anymore.

Gear Decorations
Weapon Barina Perche III and IV N/A
Head G. Rathalos Helm β N/A
Chest G. Ebony Mail β N/A
Gloves G. Ebony Braces β N/A
Waist Rathalos Coil α N/A
Legs Rathalos Greaves α N/A
Talisman Counterattack Charm I N/A

This set will grant you a hefty amount of Level 2 decorations to slot in any skills you acquire throughout your journey through HR, while also offering good damage bonuses through a value-point in Burst, four points in Adrenaline Rush and a longer Evade Window which will help you maintain the Adrenaline Rush buff. You can also trigger this buff while avoiding enemy attacks during your vaults!

This build handles early High Rank content easily, as it has plenty of defensive stats, an enhanced dodge roll, aerial capabilities, and a very strong Paralysis weapon. The Barina Perche IV is one of the strongest Insect Glaives thanks to a high Paralysis stat, as well as quite a bit of white sharpness, allowing you to paralyze enemies multiple times per hunt. If you prefer a more Aerial-oriented playstyle, you can switch out the helmet for the Rathalos Helm α instead, which will give you the Scaling Prowess group bonus.

Insect Glaive HR 35-41+ Armor Set

Once you hit Rank 35 and 40, you will unlock hunts for Gore Magala and Arkveld: Two of the most important monsters in the current endgame. Their gear is among the best available until future updates arrive.

You do not have to switch to these items the moment they become available, as the previous combination of items can be used deep into your post-HR-story journey too. Wait until you feel more comfortable fighting most enemies, as this build is quite a lot squishier. You will also want to craft 3 Sane decorations before equipping the Gore Magala pieces.

Gear Decorations
Weapon Lala Stromatopelm Critical Jewel III or Expert Jewel III
Critical Status II
Critical Jewel I or Expert Jewel I
Head G. Rathalos Helm β Mighty Jewel II
Might Jewel II
Chest Gore Mail β Chain Jewel III
Gloves G. Arkveld Vambraces β Sane Jewel I
Sane Jewel I
Sane Jewel I
Waist Gore Coil β Tenderizer Jewel III
Earplugs Jewel II
Legs G. Arkveld Greaves β Mighty Jewel II
Talisman Counter Charm III N/A

By now, you should be able to craft just about anything on the weapon tree. As soon as Lala Stromatopelm becomes available, switch to it. It has a lot of white sharpness, high Affinity, and Paralysis status attacks.

This setup focuses on Gore Magala's Frenzy + Antivirus synergy, while also building around high crit-chance, damage, and status application. You will trigger Frenzy automatically when fighting large monsters, and Antivirus makes it easier to recover from it, rewarding you with bonus Affinity when cured. At Antivirus Level 3, you get a solid +10% Affinity, further boosting your crit chance. Combined with Burst and Weakness Exploit, you will be very close to the crit-chance cap. A few points in Constitution help keep your stamina under control, which will give you a lot of additional damage through Maximum Might.

This build does not fight in the air unless absolutely necessary, as aerial attacks will drain your stamina, which will drop your Maximum Might buff.

If you have it, consider adding the Corrupted Mantle too, because it gives even more Affinity and Attack under the right conditions.

4.1.

Talisman and Key Decoration Options

Maximum Might is very potent, but difficult to maintain unless you know the attack patterns of your enemies well. You can easily switch it out for another Earplugs Jewel to gain immunity to roars. You can also add a Leap jewel at that point for more aerial control.

You will want to get three Sane Jewels as soon as possible. You can craft all level 1 decorations after unlocking the Melding Cauldron in Suja.

For the Charm/Talisman, we recommend Counter Charm III if you know how to use your offset-attack, which is one of the best offset attacks in the game! However, as it can be difficult to use it to its fullest extent, you can simply switch to any other Talisman that you would like for defensive or offensive purposes, especially if you are still lacking one of the decorations of the build.

4.2.

Endgame Weapon

The Artian Insect Glaive Diprielcha is currently the top choice in Monster Hunter Wilds. It has high base attack, three Level 3 decoration slots, and can roll very high base damage, sharpness and affinity.

Zoh Shia's weapon Blazing Katir is very competitive with the Artian weapon, and much easier to farm. It provides a consistent flat bonus damage proc, which will help our both seasoned veterans as well as beginner level players in taking down the most threatening monsters.

Since the Artian Weapon crafting process is quite random, we put together a quick summary of what you want to look out for when attempting to craft the perfect Artian Insect Glaive.

5.1.

What is the best Artian Insect Glaive and how to craft it?

Your Artian Insect Glaive Diprielcha comes in different variations depending on your Production and Reinforcement bonuses:

  • Production Bonuses set the element type and add stats like Attack or Affinity.
  • Reinforcement Bonuses are random when upgrading with reinforcement materials.

When choosing your elemental/status type, it really doesn't matter much, as long as you pick three of the same type. Paralysis and Blast tend to be the go-to choices, but more importantly you will want to pick whichever combination of the same three status or element infusions also give you three Attack Infusions.

For Production Bonuses on the Diprielcha, try to get:

  • Paralysis/Blast Infusion (these are the go-to statuses that can help stun/disable enemies the best)
  • Attack Infusion (for higher raw base damage)

As for Reinforcement Bonuses, you will want to prioritize:

  • Attack - to further boost raw damage
  • Sharpness - you will want to get at least one and possibly run a Handicraft Jewel for white sharpness.
  • Affinity - this stat can be useful, especially if you do not yet have all the decorations you need to hit close to 100% crit rate.

While individual element-matchups might offer higher damage than Paralysis or Blast Artians, you would need multiple of them to match the enemy you are hunting, while the above options are useful against all enemies.

Insect Glaive Endgame Armor Set

Gear Decorations
Weapon Blazing Katir Critical Jewel III
Flight Jewel II
Critical Jewel I
Head Lagiacrus Helm β Tenderizer Jewel III
Counter Jewel II
Chest Numinous Shroud β Challenger Jewel III
Gloves Gore Vambraces β Counter Jewel II
Counter Jewel II
Waist Lagiacrus Coil β Earplugs Jewel II
Legs Gore Greaves β Chain Jewel III
Sane Jewel I
Sane Jewel I
Talisman Challenger Charm II N/A

While the Artian Insect Glaive (Diprielcha) is technically your BiS (best-in-slot) option, we highly recommend playing Zoh Shia's Blazing Katir instead. The skill it provides grants a flat damage proc every ~6-8 seconds which is about equivalent to ~3% of your damage, and while a perfect 4x Attack/1x Sharpness Artian weapon will be slightly higher damage, the difference is negligible in anything but speedrun kills.

This gear setup goes all in on raw attack damage, ignoring the Dragon Element of the weapon entirely, as it is almost always better to simply focus on the raw damage of a weapon. That being said, the Dragon damage bonus can help a little against bosses that are vulnerable to it, which both Arkveld and Zoh Shia thankfully are!

Kinsect Choice for High Rank

Unlike other weapons, you get a secondary choice of "weapon" by picking a specific Kinsect. These come in all different shapes and sizes, with a few major distinctions between them. Gemma initially lets you buy two different ones, one for Blunt, and one for Severing. Severing Kinsects have a slightly easier time cutting off body parts, while Blunt Kinsects have a slightly easier time stunning and knocking down enemies.

Since your Kinsect always fights alongside you while in Focus Mode, you can pick whichever you prefer. Each of the two base Kinsects can later be upgraded into three different options, which then have two additional options in High Rank. You will only be able to upgrade them once during Low Rank.

We recommend that you buy each of the base Kinsect six times, to slowly but steadily get every single option out there. Once you reach High Rank, you will want to pick between the Arkmaiden, Foebeetle, Gullshad, or Carnage Beetle.

The first three options all allow you to grab three extracts from a fully charged Kinsect attack, and more importantly, you will also reclaim three extracts every time you use your Rising Spiral Slash, the strongest ability of your kit. If you get lucky or know exactly where to use it against each enemy, this can immediately refill your Red, White and Orange buffs all at once!

The Carnage Beetle is the highest damage option, but collecting extracts can be a bit more difficult, especially early into the fight when the enemy monster does not have wounds yet for your Focus Attack.

And that's it for our Low Rank Insect Glaive Guide. Happy Hunting!!
May your Glaive and Kinsect strike in unison!
