Leveling Talent Tree and Build for Assassination Rogue
The information on this page is only for Level 50 and above. We have opted not
to include information for below Level 50, as Assassination struggles massively
compared to the other specializations until it obtains its signature generator,
Mutilate.
Up to Level 59, you should assign your points in the following order:

Cut to the Chase
By respeccing at Level 50, you will immediately have access to Mutilate,
which makes the leveling process far smoother for Assassination. If you do not wish
to respec, you can grab it at Level 52, after putting 2 points in
Find Weakness,
but those 2 extra levels will be noticeably slower.
- Level 60 to 61 — 2 points in
Cut to the Chase
- Level 62 to 63 — 1 point in
Hunger For Blood
- Levels 63 to 67 — 5 points in
Dual Wield Specialization
- Level 68 to 69 — 2 points in
Precision
Once you reach Level 62, you will have access to all of
your major kit, making the leveling process far, far smoother. With Envenom,
Hunger For Blood, and
Mutilate, as well as the
Master Poisoner
buff to Envenom, you will find it much easier to maintain your damage.
- Levels 70 to 72 — 3 points in
Precision
- Levels 73 to 77 — 5 points in
Close Quarters Combat/
- Levels 78 to 80 — 3 points in
Lightning Reflexes
Leveling Rotation
If you choose to level as Assassination before Level
50, you will use Backstab as your main damage dealer, but it can only
be used if you are behind the target. Use your CC, such as
Kidney Shot to
stun enemies and get behind them or
Gouge.
Once you have Mutilate, your rotation is fairly
simple. Maintain your
Slice and Dice buff while using Mutilate and
Eviscerate
to generate and spend your Combo Points.
Envenom simplifies your rotation even further,
especially when coupled with the fully talented
Cut to the Chase. Your Envenom
will now refresh your
Slice and Dice, meaning all you now have to do is use
your
Mutilate and
Envenom spells.
You can use Garrote as an opener to allow you
to use
Hunger For Blood for additional damage.
List of Trainer Skills to Buy
It is important to buy all abilities as you level as they are cheap and Rogues have quite a few abilities that are extremely powerful in certain situations.
The most important ability to buy is Envenom at Level 62.
Rogue Macros and Addons
Setting up an user interface and macros early on you will greatly improve the quality of your leveling experience. Check out the Rogue Macros and Addons guides in the links below for the full list.
