1. Heroes Arthas Works Well With

In this section, we will look at the heroes that work particularly well with Arthas.

1.1. Tyrande

Tyrande Portrait Tyrande's Lunar Flare Icon Lunar Flare ability synergises extremely well with Howling Blast Icon Howling Blast. Arthas and Tyrande form a formidable gank squad that can wreak havoc during the early stages of the game. In order to execute a successful gank, we recommend using Howling Blast first, as it has a lower casting range and is also easier to land than Lunar Flare. Tyrande's defensive talents like Protective Shield Icon Protective Shield or Overflowing Light Icon Overflowing Light assist Arthas as a frontliner, while her Starfall Icon Starfall complements Summon Sindragosa Icon Summon Sindragosa very well.

1.2. Kerrigan

Kerrigan Portrait Kerrigan is one of the deadliest melee Assassins if she is able to unleash her abilities and Basic Attacks on slowed or immobilised enemies. This makes Arthas an excellent pick with Kerrigan, especially if both of them rotate between lanes to secure early kills for their team. Howling Blast Icon Howling Blast and Frozen Tempest Icon Frozen Tempest should be used first to allow Kerrigan to land her Impaling Blades Icon Impaling Blades and Primal Grasp Icon Primal Grasp abilities.

1.3. Jaina

Jaina Portrait Arthas and Jaina combined offer an incredible amount of slows that offer great follow up potential for their allies. Enemies caught in Summon Sindragosa Icon Summon Sindragosa's icy path become easy prey for Jaina's Basic Abilities and vice versa. Arthas can also provide some peeling for her through Frozen Tempest Icon Frozen Tempest and Howling Blast Icon Howling Blast.

2. Heroes Arthas Is Countered By

In this section, we will look at the heroes that counter Arthas particularly well.

2.1. Valla

Valla Portrait Valla is a very slippery ranged Assassin, meaning that she is very hard to catch, especially for Warriors like Arthas that lack mobility. Vault Icon Vault's allows her to quickly dodge Howling Blast Icon Howling Blast. Her Rain of Vengeance Icon Rain of Vengeance Heroic Ability poses a dangerous threat to Arthas, as he does not have any dashes or leap abilities to avoid it.

2.1.1. How To Play Against Valla

When playing against Valla, keeping an eye on Vault Icon Vault's cooldown is essential. If Vault is available try to anticipate the target location of her dashing animation and aim Howling Blast Icon Howling Blast accordingly. Choosing Block Icon Block against Valla can help you to negate a lot of her Basic Attack damage, especially if she later takes talents like Manticore Icon Manticore that amplify her single target damage.

2.2. Brightwing

Brightwing Portrait Brightwing excels at disabling individual threats thanks to Polymorph Icon Polymorph. This ability prevents Arthas from using any of his self-sustaining spells like Death Coil Icon Death Coil or Army of the Dead Icon Army of the Dead. Furthermore, it cancels Frozen Tempest Icon Frozen Tempest meaning it needs to be reactivated again as soon as Polymorph's duration is over.

2.2.1. How To Play Against Brightwing

When playing against Brightwing, Icebound Fortitude Icon Icebound Fortitude becomes a useful talent at Level 7 in order to shorten the duration of Polymorph. Keep in mind that Emerald Wind Icon Emerald Wind counters Summon Sindragosa Icon Summon Sindragosa by pushing nearby Heroes back which makes it a lot harder to start a good team fight. Consequently, Army of the Dead Icon Army of the Dead may be a better choice against Emerald Wind.

2.3. Illidan

Illidan Portrait Illidan is a powerful melee Assassin that needs to be a high priority target, otherwise he will wreak havoc in your team's backline. The best way to shut Illidan down is to either stun or silence him, which makes Arthas a poor choice against him, because he can do neither.

2.3.1. How To Play Against Illidan

Illidan should have an easy time dodging Howling Blast Icon Howling Blast which is why you should try to slow his movement speed first by activating Frozen Tempest Icon Frozen Tempest in his vicinity. By the same token, his Evasion Icon Evasion ability negates any Basic Attack damage done by your Frostmourne Hungers Icon Frostmourne Hungers. We recommend waiting until the duration of Evasion has worn off before using it against Illidan.
