3. Level 1 Talents

Conjurer's Pursuit Hammer of the Lightbringer ? Fist of Justice Wave of Light ?

3.1. Description

Conjurer's Pursuit Icon Conjurer's Pursuit permanently increases your Mana Regeneration by 0.1 per second for every Regeneration Globe you collect, up to 2.5. After gathering 25 Regeneration Globes, your maximum Mana is also increased by 100. Purple Regeneration Globes dropped from neutral Boss monsters count as well.

Hammer of the Lightbringer Icon Hammer of the Lightbringer causes each of Uther's basic attacks to restore 8 Mana.

Fist of Justice Icon Fist of Justice causes your basic attacks to reduce the cooldown of Hammer of Justice Icon Hammer of Justice by 1 second each.

Wave of Light Icon Wave of Light causes Holy Radiance Icon Holy Radiance to have its cooldown reduced by 1 second and Mana cost reduced by 8 per allied unit healed (includes Uther himself, as well as minions) by the ability. The maximum Mana reduction is 40. It should be noted that this effect does not trigger for targets that are at full health.

3.2. Recommended

Conjurer's Pursuit Icon Conjurer's Pursuit offers Uther the Mana he needs to sustain his healing over extended periods of time. As Uther is not typically used as a roaming Hero, he has the chance to stay in lane where Regeneration Globes are plentiful — and where he can reliably increase his total Mana Regeneration. By the time you reach about 18 stacks of Conjurer's Pursuit, your Mana expenditures will feel significantly reduced.

3.3. Situational

Hammer of the Lightbringer Icon Hammer of the Lightbringer has the potential to grant much more Mana Regeneration than Conjurer's Pursuit Icon Conjurer's Pursuit. This however hinges upon the need to be able to consistently deliver Basic Attacks. Certain Maps and strategies make this easier to do. Hammer of the Lightbringer is particularly effective on Battlefield of Eternity and Infernal Shrines.

Wave of Light Icon Wave of Light is generally difficult to utilise fully simply because you will rarely hit more than 2 or 3 allies with Holy Radiance Icon Holy Radiance. However, certain team compositions — especially those that feature 3 or more melee Heroes, or the Lost Vikings, make it much easier to hit multiple allies with Holy Radiance. In this case, this Talent proves to be surprisingly effective.

3.4. Not Recommended

Fist of Justice Icon Fist of Justice is not a bad talent by any means. However, every other talent on this tier provide Mana in some way, which is vital given Uther's hefty Mana expenditures.

4. Level 4 Talents

Boundless Conviction Beacon of Light ? Protective Shield

4.1. Description

Boundless Conviction Icon Boundless Conviction increases the range and size of Holy Radiance Icon Holy Radiance by 40%.

Beacon of Light Icon Beacon of Light causes you to heal yourself for 30% of any healing you do to allied Heroes.

Protective Shield Icon Protective Shield is an activatable talent that grants an allied Hero or oneself with a damage-absorbing Shield equal to 15% of the target's maximum Health for 5 seconds. Protective Shield has a 60-second cooldown.

4.2. Recommended

Protective Shield Icon Protective Shield provides you with what basically amounts to an additional healing ability on a long cooldown. The shielding amount is considerable, making it difficult for your opponents to kill your target, provided that you cast the ability as said target is taking damage. It is, therefore, essential that you watch out for incoming damage spikes before casting Protective Shield, which you will learn to do as you practice.

4.3. Situational

Beacon of Light Icon Beacon of Light provides you with an impressive amount of self-healing. This is particularly useful against team compositions that feature prominent amounts of area of effect damage, as it allows you to both improve the efficiency of your healing and conserve your Holy Light Icon Holy Light's cooldown for your allies. This talent generally makes Uther more difficult to kill as well.

4.4. Not Recommended

Boundless Conviction Icon Boundless Conviction provides an unnecessary range increase to an ability that already has a reasonably long range. By default, Holy Radiance Icon Holy Radiance is already able to hit entire minion waves, outrange most basic abilities, and cover several team members, making the talent simply unnecessary.

5. Level 7 Talents

Burden of Guilt Holy Fire Cleanse

5.1. Description

Burden of Guilt Icon Burden of Guilt causes Hammer of Justice Icon Hammer of Justice to reduce the movement speed of your target by 30% for 2 seconds after the stunning effect expires.

Holy Fire Icon Holy Fire creates a fiery aura around Uther that deals damage every second to nearby enemies. This damage is increased by 20% for 3 seconds whenever you deliver a Basic Attack to a Hero, stacking up to 3 times for a potential total of 60% more damage. This effect is not active while mounted, or while under the effects of Eternal Devotion Icon Eternal Devotion.

Cleanse Icon Cleanse is an activatable talent that instantly renders the targeted allied Hero Unstoppable for 1 second. Cleanse has a 60-second cooldown and cannot be used on oneself.

5.2. Recommended

Cleanse Icon Cleanse is an outstanding ability that nullifies crowd control. Since crowd control is often the precursor to undesirable focus and further crowd control effects, cleansing a target can allow them to make it out of otherwise fatal situations.

5.3. Not Recommended

Burden of Guilt Icon Burden of Guilt simply does not provide a slowing effect that is strong enough to justify the talent choice over the other potential choices. Part of the talent's effect is also wasted when Hammer of Justice is used twice as a result of Benediction Icon Benediction.

Holy Fire Icon Holy Fire provides Uther with a reasonable amount of area of effect damage for a Support Hero. The talent, however, must compete with Cleanse Icon Cleanse. Should your opponent's team be completely devoid of crowd control, Holy Fire could certainly be considered, however rare this situation may be.

6. Level 10 Talents

Divine Shield Divine Storm

6.1. Description

At this level, Heroic abilities become available. Both Heroic abilities have already been described in the abilities section.

6.2. Recommended

As Divine Shield Icon Divine Shield and Divine Storm Icon Divine Storm are both situationally very powerful, the choice of one or the other is based on personal preference and team compositions.

Divine Shield Icon Divine Shield is your defensive option. It offers a unique effect that can singlehandedly influence the outcome of individual fights. In theory, Divine Shield's invulnerability effect can prevent an infinite amount of damage from affecting your target for its duration. For this reason, this Heroic ability is often used to avoid burst damage against team compositions that rely on hard-engaging. The movement speed increase provided by Divine Shield also allows your target to effectively escape if their health is left low from an engagement, or re-engage after being healed.

Since many kills rely on the application of crowd control effects to hold a target in place while it is being damaged, the debuff removal and immunity effect of Divine Shield is just as valuable as the invulnerability itself.

Divine Shield is often used to counter the following abilities and follow-up combos:

Divine Shield is especially recommended versus Diablo, Kerrigan, Murky, and Tyrael.

Divine Storm Icon Divine Storm is your offensive option. Although such a reliable area of effect stun has useful defensive applications, notably for peeling, Divine Storm is typically used as part of a combo, either as the initiating component or as a follow-up. Alternatively, it can also be used to lock down Support Heroes (especially when used along Hammer of Justice Icon Hammer of Justice for lengthy stuns) while your team kills off other Heroes before they can be healed or otherwise protected.

Divine Storm combos well with several abilities, and should be strongly considered if your team composition features at least two of the following:

7. Level 13 Talents

Blessed Champion ? Spell Shield ? Holy Shock Shrink Ray

7.1. Description

Blessed Champion Icon Blessed Champion causes your Basic Attacks to heal you and nearby allied Heroes for an amount equal to 20% of Holy Light Icon Holy Light's total healing amount for 5 seconds after using Holy Light.

Spell Shield Icon Spell Shield causes you to take 50% less damage from Abilities for 2 seconds whenever you are damaged by an Ability. This effect has a 30-second cooldown.

Holy Shock Icon Holy Shock allows you to use Holy Light Icon Holy Light on an enemy to deal damage equal to 50% of Holy Light's healing amount. Using Holy Light this way reduces its cooldown by 6 seconds, and causes your next Holy Light to heal for 50% more.

Shrink Ray Icon Shrink Ray reduces the damage and movement speed of the targeted Hero by 50% for 4 seconds. Although Shrink Ray affects both Basic Attacks and Abilities, it does not reduce the damage of the target's summoned units or other activatable talents, such as Envenom Icon Envenom and Blood for Blood Icon Blood for Blood. Shrink Ray has a 60-second cooldown.

7.2. Recommended

Shrink Ray Icon Shrink Ray is an all around useful ability that can be used to temporarily shut down Heroes, especially those who rely on basic attacks and Heroic abilities to deal damage or survive. Ideal targets include Falstad, Illidan, Jaina, Kerrigan, Nova, Sonya, Tassadar, (while under Archon Icon Archon) and Tychus (while under Commandeer Odin Icon Commandeer Odin). Offensively, the movement speed reduction can be used to prevent escapes, or even help your own or those of your teammates when used against a chasing Hero.

7.3. Situational

Blessed Champion Icon Blessed Champion has the potential to provide some incredible area of effect healing. This potential, however, hinges upon being able to reliably deliver Basic Attacks, something that is seldom possible. Blessed Champion is a good counterpick to double healer team compositions, as you will have more freedom to play aggressively.

Should you find yourself struggling to survive against caster-heavy team compositions, Spell Shield Icon Spell Shield is your talent of choice.

7.4. Not Recommended

Holy Shock Icon Holy Shock turns an excellent healing ability into a mediocre damage dealing ability. Uther is typically expected to heal, and while the unexpected burst can be interesting to exploit, it is simply too dangerous to play with.

8. Level 16 Talents

Gathering Radiance Hardened Focus ? Righteous Defense ? Benediction

8.1. Description

Gathering Radiance Icon Gathering Radiance increases the damage and healing of the next Holy Radiance Icon Holy Radiance you cast by 8% per Hero it hits (friendly and enemy), up to a maximum of 80%.

Hardened Focus Icon Hardened Focus causes your Basic Abilities to cooldown 50% faster while your current Health is above 80% of its maximum total.

Righteous Defense Icon Righteous Defense causes Holy Light Icon Holy Light to reduce all damage taken by the ability's target by 50% for 2 seconds.

Benediction Icon Benediction is an activatable talent that reduces the cooldown of your next basic ability cast by 10 seconds, and its Mana cost by 50. Benediction can be cast while mounted, and lasts until a basic ability has been used. It has a cooldown of 40 seconds.

8.2. Recommended

Benediction Icon Benediction acts as a minor version of Rewind Icon Rewind, allowing you to cast the same ability twice in a row, on top of reducing this ability's Mana cost by 50. Benediction is notable for allowing you to cast Hammer of Justice Icon Hammer of Justice twice to accomplish one of the game's longest targeted stun (for a total of 2 seconds). When used with Holy Light Icon Holy Light, Benediction allows you to bypass a large portion of the ability's cooldown for a significant amount of single-target healing. Benediction is seldom used with Holy Radiance Icon Holy Radiance, simply due to the ability's lower impact.

8.3. Situational

Although Hardened Focus Icon Hardened Focus has the potential of significantly improving your healing output, it has a condition — that of remaining above 80% Health — that is difficult to meet. The choice is valid when you are under excessively low amounts of pressure, such as when playing with two tanks or otherwise high priority targets such as casters.

Righteous Defense Icon Righteous Defense provides Uther with an extremely reliable and potent single-target protection effect. This is an excellent choice when a particular teammate seems to be the target of repeated abuse, and against Heroes with large amounts of burst damage.

8.4. Not Recommended

Gathering Radiance Icon Gathering Radiance is hard to fully utilise, does not provide a significant damage increase, and competes with other very good choices. Avoid this talent.

9. Level 20 Talents

Bulwark of Light Divine Hurricane Redemption Storm Shield ?

Bulwark of Light Icon Bulwark of Light increases the duration of Divine Shield Icon Divine Shield by 2 seconds and reduces its cooldown to 50 seconds, down from 70 seconds.

Divine Hurricane Icon Divine Hurricane increases the radius of Divine Storm Icon Divine Storm by 50% and reduces its cooldown to 60 seconds, down from 80 seconds.

Redemption Icon Redemption causes Uther to come back to life at his spirit's current location with 50% Health and 100% Mana once Eternal Devotion Icon Eternal Devotion's effect has expired. This effect has a cooldown of 180 seconds.

Storm Shield Icon Storm Shield is an activatable talent that provides all nearby allied Heroes, including oneself, with a Shield equal to 20% each respective target's maximum Health for 3 seconds. Storm Shield has a 45-second cooldown.

9.1. Recommended

Redemption Icon Redemption is one of the best talents in the game. The utility of being able to die, expending your opponent's time and resources, to then be able to use Eternal Devotion Icon Eternal Devotion's outstanding healing potential, to then revive near your team with a full Mana bar and a reasonable amount of health simply cannot be overstated. The only thing that you need to ensure is that you move your spirit to a safe location to revive, as clever opponents will quickly switch their attention to you in your weakened state

If you know that you are going to die shortly, use your basic ability cooldowns. As you revive, they will be available once again.

9.2. Situational

There are times where your team simply cannot make the best out of Eternal Devotion Icon Eternal Devotion. This situation could occur when you seldom die, such as against two-healer compositions, or when your team dies too fast, such as against dive composition. This is when Storm Shield Icon Storm Shield comes into play. The main difference between it and Redemption Icon Redemption is that Storm Shield can pay off instantly and prevent deaths, whereas Redemption provides more overall healing and utility over a longer period of time — provided that Uther does actually die himself.

9.3. Not Recommended

Although decent choices, neither Bulwark of Light Icon Bulwark of Light nor Divine Hurricane Icon Divine Hurricane significantly affect the usability of their respective Heroic abilities. If Divine Shield Icon Divine Shield is to be used to counter burst damage, then it effectively does so without lasting two more seconds. Divine Storm Icon Divine Storm's radius is decent enough even without Divine Hurricane, making the pick feel unnecessary.
