General Information

Macros and addons are an integral part of a raider's arsenal as they can make it easier to perform a variety of tasks, improving your overall game experience. On this page, we present macros and addons that can be useful to a Holy Priest in World of Warcraft Legion 7.1.

The other pages of our Holy Priest guide can be accessed from the table of contents on the right.

About Our Reviewer

This guide has been reviewed and approved by Zolvolt, officer and long-time healing Priest of Exiled Legion, whom you can follow on Twitter.

1. Macros

1.1. Generic Macros for Priests

1.1.1. Leap of Faith Mouseover Macro

  • /cast [@mouseover,help,nodead][] Leap of Faith

This macro will cast Leap of Faith Icon Leap of Faith on the target your are currently mousing over, if it is a friendly target and not dead. Otherwise, it will cast Leap of Faith on your current target.

1.2. Specific Macros for Holy Priests

While we do not recommend any specific macro for Holy Priests, we do highly suggest that all of your heals, as well as other spells that can be cast on raid members (such as Guardian Spirit Icon Guardian Spirit) be incorporated into mouseover macros. This will allow you to much more easily cast them on raid members.

Here is an example of a mouseover macro. Simply replace Flash Heal Icon Flash Heal with the name of the spell you want to use:

  • #showtooltip Flash Heal
  • /cast [@mouseover,help,nodead][]Flash Heal

This will cast Flash Heal on your mouseover target, if it is a friendly target and it is not dead. Otherwise, it will cast heal on your current target.

1.2.1. Apotheosis / Circle of Healing Mouseover Macro

  • #showtooltip
  • /cast [@mouseover,exists,help,talent:7/3] [talent:7/3] Circle of Healing; [talent:7/1] Apotheosis

This macro assigns Apotheosis Icon Apotheosis and mouseover Circle of Healing Icon Circle of Healing to the same button to avoid swapping out abilities after each talent switch.

2. Addons

2.1. Generic Addons for Priests

2.1.1. ElvUI

Here, at Icy Veins, we use ElvUI for all our characters. This addon is a complete replacement of the default User Interface. It comes with almost everything you need to perform properly: action bars, cooldown timers, proc display, etc.

We strongly recommend that you get this addon and our forum moderator Pandacho has written a quick configuration guide for it.

2.1.2. Boss Mods: Deadly Boss Mods or Bigwigs

Boss mods are addons that warn you about boss abilities and give you live advice on how to handle some mechanics. We strongly recommend you to get one such addon. At Icy Veins, we mostly use Deadly Boss Mods, the most popular boss mod. A good alternative is Big Wigs.

2.1.3. GTFO

GTFO is a lightweight addon that notifies you when you are standing in harmful effects or when you are making other such mistakes. It is very useful, even if your boss mod is already alerting you of such things.

2.1.4. Parrot or Mik's Scrolling Battle Text

Parrot and Mik's Scrolling Battle Text are highly customisable addons for displaying floating battle text while in combat (incoming heals, damage of your spells, etc.). They both work very well by default.

2.1.5. Weak Auras

WeakAuras is an extremely useful addon that allows you to have visual effects on your screen, helping you track your buffs, debuffs and cooldowns. It is highly customisable and it can make it much, much easier to keep track of your procs and play your spec more proficiently. It can also be used for a variety of other functions.

2.1.6. Recount / Skada / Details!

Recount is a well known addon that most people use for displaying current DPS or HPS (Healing Per Second). This add-on is not really lightweight, and provides a very high amount of information (and it can sometimes cause issues with performance). It is generally a good option to use Recount for checking what you take damage from and if the share of damage/healing you do with each of your abilities is similar to that of other players of your class.

An alternative to Recount (similar in function, so the choice is personal preference) is Details!.

A lightweight alternative to Recount and Details! is Skada Damage Meter.

2.2. Specific Addons for Holy Priests

It is very useful to have a means to track how many players in a party will be healed by Prayer of Healing Icon Prayer of Healing if it is cast on a certain raid member (since it only heals party members within a 30-yard radius of the target). This is something you can set up manually in most raid-frame add-ons.
