Ashes of Creation Rogue Best in Slot and Stat Priority
Learn everything you need to know when it comes to gearing up your Rogue. This guide will show you the best armor and weapons to craft to maximize your damage and ensure you're dominating. Whether you're prepping for a World Boss or planning to PvP, these gear choices are easily digestible and the ones you want.
Best in Slot Rogue Gear
Please note: If you can afford to, once the Journeyman Scribe station is available,
it's highly suggested that you also use Journeyman Enchanting Scrolls
to enchant your Level 20 gear, which will greatly boost your stats even further, giving up a
minimum of 8 stats on all your gear and weapons. The more you enchant a specific item, the more
expensive it gets as you upgrade it. This also comes with a chance for the item to be destroyed
after you've enchanted it 8 times, so be careful!
NOTE: This gear is based off PTR stats and set bonuses and have not yet been updated.
The items listed above showcases some of the best gear options for the general Rogues for Phase 3. However, based on your overall gameplay, there may be other items that you may prefer. For example, I PvP a lot, so instead of wearing the heavy armor pieces with Physical Power and Strength, I'll sacrifice that Power to put gain more resistance gear on (since Medium in Phase 3 grants both Physical and Magical Resistances while Heavy only grants Physical Resistances), which gives you more effective HP.
This build should get you both Physical and Magical Defense which will allow you to play in melee more often even with the Time to Kill (TTK) being drastically reduced from Phase 2.5. Your accessories may change a bit based on your desires for Health, Defense, and Power, but the Steelbloom set is overall good. However, having to go to both Carphin and Steelbloom means it will be highly populated and contested, but that's why this is a BiS set and not a casual set.
Another massive changes Intrepid made was to the rarities. Drastically nerfing the higher rarities in the gear. For this reason we only suggested Uncommon on all the Armor pieces and Rare on your Weapons. Of course, Legendary everything is going to be more BiS than Uncommon gear but we're setting realistic expectations for the average player to not be discouraged. Crafting Journeyman won't be open immediately and crafters make the best $#!7.
Stat Priority
Before we get into the gearing, we need to talk about your stats and stat priority. Just like all MMORPG's, stats are very important and you’ll find stats on gear, as well as some consumables that you can use that can boost your stats.
There’s six primary or attribute stats, and each point added to this main stat will boost additional stats you have that they are calling Waterfall stats. You can hover over these attributes in your character sheet (H) by default to see the exact breakdown of these stats. Strength is our main stat and we want this on most, if not all of our gear since Strength is the only main stat that gives Rogues Physical Power. Thinking Dexterity is made for finesse is a mistake at this stage in development. The stat priority is as follows:
- Strength – Boosts your Physical Power. This is going to be your main power stat and easily the most important. Simply; the more power you have the more your auto attacks and abilities do. For any penetration remaining in the game, the damage formula will be boosted off your power increases.
- Constitution – Boosts max HP and Defenses. This is going to be any melee's secondary stat wanted. It will keep you alive when you go in for that assassination on the Rogue.
- Dexterity – Boosts your Crit Chance, Attack Speed, and Crit Power. It will also increase your evasion, which could be good, but while Diminishing Returns are more loose now, DRs hit Evasion pretty hard for Phase 3 and you probably won't ever get over 35% evasion. You'll still want to prioritize this stat, but don't worry about it too much.
- Mentality – Boosts your tenacity. Simply put, this stat now helps you be CC'd for less amount of time and break out sooner. While this is useful, it's less of a focus and more of a boon for when you get this as a waterfall stat. Nothing to build around but beneficial.
- Wisdom – Boosts magical cast times and crit percentage. Look at Wisdom like the Dexterity of casters. Since none of your abilities or weapons will scale off magic (until secondary archetypes?!) it doesn't boost anything for the Rogue.
- Intellect – Boosts magical power. The Strength equivalent for casters. If you have this stat on your build, something is wrong.
Additional Gear Advice
There are a ton of options for armor and weapons to choose from; in Ashes of Creation, any Archetype can wear any piece of gear. That means you can wear light armor, with some heavy armor and if you really wanted to you can even use daggers, spears, huge two handed greatswords, bows and more. This is because almost every weapon in the game can roll either Physical Power or Magical Power. So if you don't see your favorite weapon on the Best in Slot list, don't worry! Just pick one that you like! They're all so good and on par with each other, plus some might be easier to find or cheaper to craft, so keep an eye out! Also worth mentioning that both the Short and Longbows Weapon Tree get Wound baseline. Wound makes the target take decreased healing, which is very good for PvP.
With that being said, leveling your Artisans is incredibly important. Ashes of Creation rewards you for gathering, processing and crafting by making sure all of your best in slot gear can be crafted. This is huge because all this gear can actually drop from certain enemies, however it will almost always drop at a Common or Uncommon quality, with an EXTREMELY low chance to drop at a higher quality. However, if you craft the piece of armor or weapon using higher quality materials, then that piece of gear will be a higher quality, offering it more stats than it would otherwise have. The qualities and their colors, alongside an example, are listed below.
- Common – White (
Ancient Dunzen Daggers)
- Uncommon – Green (
Ancient Dunzen Daggers)
- Rare – Blue (
Ancient Dunzen Daggers)
- Heroic – Yellow (
Ancient Dunzen Daggers)
- Epic – Purple (
Ancient Dunzen Daggers)
- Legendary – Orange (
Ancient Dunzen Daggers)
