Cataclysm Classic Guide to Rogue's Best Macros
Welcome to our Macro Guide for
Rogue where you will find out what the best
macros are for your Rogue in Cataclysm Classic.
Rogue Macros in Cataclysm
This guide focused on showing some examples of some useful Macros on your Rogue and how they function. A macro is a series of commands put into a text box to execute multiple actions either simultaneously or sequentially depending on how the ability/item functions.
General Macros
- Start Auto Attack
- /cast Sinister Strike
This is an especially useful macro as a Rogue as there is rarely ever a situation where you do not want to be auto-attacking while in combat so make sure to macro this in with whatever your abilities you are using depending on your specialization.
- Focus Kick:
- #showtooltip Kick
- /cast [@focus] Kick
This macro allows you to cast your Interrupt
Kick on your
focus target as opposed to your primary target, keep in mind that Kick is
only able to be used in Melee range so while this is a great tool you to maintain
your target you do still need to be aware of your distance from your current focus target.
- Tricks of the Trade Mouseover:
- #showtooltip Tricks of the Trade
- cast [@mouseover] Tricks of the Trade
This macro allows you to use your
Tricks of the Trade ability without dropping your current target.
Instead of targeting the person you want simply place your cursor over their party frame and press the macro
and this will give them the Tricks of the Trade buff while still allowing you to auto-attack.
- Focus Shadowstep:
- #showtooltip Shadowstep
- /cast [@focus] Shadowstep
Like the
Kick macro highlighted above this macro will cast your
Shadowstep ability on your
focus target, this can easily be paired with the above Kick macro to instantly interrupt a target that may have
otherwise been out of range.
- Ambush Opener:
- #showtooltip Shadowstep
- /cast Premeditation
- /cast Shadowstep
- /cast Ambush
This macro is our ideal opener when casting
Ambush either coming out of
Stealth or
while
Shadow Dance is active. This takes advantage of the bonus damage from casting
Shadowstep
while also generating extra combo points thanks to
Premeditation. This would require three separate
button presses to pull off so having it all in one button greatly simplifies the process.
- Shadow Dance:
- #showtooltip Shadow Dance
- /cast Blood Fury
- /cast Shadow Dance
This macro is only really useful if you are either an Engineer, have an on use DPS racial (Troll, Orc) or
have an on use trinket, ideally we will be stacking any DPS cooldowns we have with our
Shadow Dance ability
so if you have Engineering add a line that says /use 10 which will instantly use your
Synapse Springs. If you
find yourself with an on use trinket add a line that says /use item name and it will automatically use the trinket.
Rogue Addons
Macros are very important in making your character play as smoothly as possible, but so do addons, for which reason we recommend that you also read our Rogue Addons page.
