Gold Making: Children's Week

Recommended Posts

As there are no new trade-able items for this years event it is business as usual for Children's Week.  Time to get cooking and grab those battle pet quest rewards!

Introduction

The intention of this guide is to help you earn gold both during and after the event.  If you would like a comprehensive guide on the event itself and the associated items and achievements then check out our full guide HERE.

2016: First and foremost my apologies for not having the guide available for the event launch!  Sadly real life got in the way this weekend so it's a little late!  As far as I can tell there are no new additions for 2016 (other than the Bind on Pickup inv_misc_throwingball_01.jpgYellow Balloon) so let's get stuck in and make some gold!

Children's Week doesn't tend to offer a great number of different ways of making gold.  The majority of the opportunities are through both cooking and battle pets.

Important things to note:

  • The event only lasts for one week
  • Being able to travel around the World easily will help save a lot of time if you wish to complete the pet quest chains

Cooking

In previous years I have managed to make a lot of money through cooking items that are linked with the Children's Week achievement inv_misc_food_31.jpgBad Example.

If you have managed to farm / buy some cheap inv_egg_01.jpgSmall Egg and inv_egg_01.jpgNorthern Egg over the past few weeks you should be able to turn a fairly hefty profit.

There are two cooking recipes that you can make, these are:

Tasty Cupcakes

inv_valentineschocolate01.jpgTasty Cupcake x 5:

2x inv_misc_food_wheat_01.jpgSimple Flour (cooking vendor) 1x inv_egg_01.jpgNorthern Egg

Delicious Chocolate Cake

inv_misc_celebrationcake_01.jpgDelicious Chocolate Cake:

8x inv_misc_food_wheat_01.jpgSimple Flour 4x inv_drink_milk_01.jpgIce Cold Milk  4x inv_misc_food_wheat_02.jpgMild Spices 1x inv_potion_12.jpgFlask of Stormwind Tawny 3x inv_jewelry_talisman_03.jpgMageroyal 8x inv_egg_01.jpgSmall Egg

Chances are there will be a lot of competition on the auction house with these items.  Depending on the number of eggs you have bought or farmed it may be worth selling the raw eggs themselves as well as the cooked food.  The chocolate cake recipe is pretty rare as well don't worry if you can't make the cake yourself.  Sell the raw mats or try and find a guild member / friend who isn't interested in making gold and have them craft them up for you!

It is possible to sell some of the vendor bought items such as the inv_misc_food_153_doughnut.jpgDalaran Doughnut and the inv_misc_food_145_cake.jpgLovely Cake.  Players are notoriously lazy - so make it convenient for them by buying a few stacks and putting them onto the auction house.  you will be amazed at the prices you can charge!

If possible with all of these items don;t try and flood the auction house.  Try and sell a few at a time and only list them for 12 hours.  Small and often is the best course of action here.  They will probably get undercut quite quickly so check when you can and ensure yours are the cheapest on the auction house when you can!

*Hint* I list my eggs on a character that I rarely use for auctions and check frequently with the remote auction house (via the WoW mobile app).  A bit overkill for some but can get you sales if you aren't able to login at your desktop!

Battle Pets

Of the 10 available pets from the event, 8 are trade-able.

As outlined in our full event guide, there are 3 quest chains.  The rewards from Stormwind/Orgrimmar/Outland quests you can sell and the pets from the Northrend questline are not trade-able.

It goes without saying that the more characters that you can complete the quest chains will

The price for each pet will vary depending on your server population.

I highly recommend utilising the website www.wow-pets.com before you complete your quest chain to give you some indication as to which pet is more valuable on your particular server.

If you are on EU servers click here to find your realm.

For US servers click here to find your realm.

From the above links you can then search for the pet prices for all of the Children's Week pets to see which is potentially the most profitable.  Make sure you filter the results by "Source" to get a quick snapshot of all World Event: Children's Week pets.

As an example, the below picture shows the prices of the pets before the event.  The left hand column (bold text) is for level 1 pets the right hand column (faded) is for level 25.

kSxbVjG.png

Remember, the prices will drop during the event itself so don't get too discouraged if they seem a little low if you are searching during the event.

The information below helps to explain how I level and sell my pets.  It is not specifically for the event or for the event pets themselves but more of a general explanation of how I try and get the most money for the pets that I trade.

Typically the Children's Week pets sell pretty well throughout the year so I recommend having a little read if it is something that interests you.

If you aren't very interested in pets (I appreciate not everyone is) then treat it as you would any other seasonal item and try and wait until the event has ended to sell your pets.  They definitely will sell at green and level 1 at the right price!

If you do want to learn a little more about selling pets read on! If not skip to the "PvP" section!

Selling Battle Pets

As the event deals with a lot of battle pets (and is the main source of income for this event) I wanted to try and go into a little detail about pets and pet selling.  I will be completing a comprehensive pet guide in the very near future which will also have some of my own personal TSM profiles included!  In the meantime this should give you a little bit of information on how to maximise your gold with the pets you can acquire during Children's Week!

Uncommon or Rare? Level 1 or 25?

One of the most frequent questions that I am asked is at what level / quality I sell my pets.  There is a market for pets of all levels and quality, however you are most likely to see pets at uncommon (green) level 1 or rare (blue) 25.

At this moment in time I only trade in rare quality level 25 pets.  The main reason for this is the fact I can demand a much higher price compared to selling at uncommon and level 1.  This obviously requires a little effort but as a very general rule of thumb I "add on" 5k for the leveling and upgrading process.

I know a number of pet sellers that deal solely in level 1 uncommon quality pets who also manage to earn a great deal of gold so it depends if you prefer high volume sales (level 1 uncommon) or premium prices (level 25 rare).

How Can I level and upgrade Quickly

Previously, upgrading your pets quality was fairly difficult and / or expensive.  However in Warlords of Draenor you can purchase an upgrade stone for 15 Pet Charms from your garrison pet menagerie vendor.  These can be obtained through completing the pet dailies in your garrison.

If you are new to battle pets then don't worry, it is honestly easier and quicker to get started than you may think.

Check out my Garrison Pet Menagerie guide here to find out more.

It takes me around 10 minutes to level my pets from 1-25 and as I complete the dailies regularly I have a number of pet charms at my disposal to upgrade my pets to rare quality.

Selling Pets

Pet prices can fluctuate heavily depending on your server population and region.  My "5k rule" isn't feasible on some realms (generally high pop servers) so you may have to scale down your profit or come to the conclusion that it just isn't worth your time to sell them at rare 25 (even with the power leveling methods I use).

Be careful when using auction house addons as some can't distinguish between levels or quality.  I have bought a great deal of bargains as players undercut green level 1 pets with their rare level 25's so don't make this mistake.  Don;t be afraid of manually listing them (especially if you only have a handful to sell).

If you are active on a number of servers remember that you can cage and relearn pets and re-cage them on another server,  So research which realm has the best prices and sell on that realm instead!  www.wow-pets.com allows you to compare multiple server prices at once so use that as a quick snapshot to give you an indication of prices!

HKLXDx5.png

Lastly, don't forget it will take quite a while for these pets to sell so if you can, hold out for higher prices in around 6-9 months time unless you are in desperate need of gold!

PvP

zvLZHE1.png

As with a number of other achievements in game right now it is possible to "sell" your skills if you are good enough.  Children's Week includes the achievement ability_hunter_beastcall02.jpgSchool of Hard Knocks, which for players that don't "do PvP" can be a horrible horrible experience.

If you are confident in your own abilities (or have a small group of you that can complete the achievement as a team without too much bother, I have known players to purchase boosts so they can have a trouble free achievement.

Prices again will vary depending on your own server or how much you value your time, but if you are PvP orientated it may be worth while with a few barks in trade chat offering your services!

Wrap Up!

This concludes my seasonal event guide to Children's Week.  As you can see it is dominated by battle pets for the most part but there is still plenty of time to get your achievement_profession_chefhat.jpgChef's Hat on and get making some gold!

Good luck!

Dragonflight Season 4 starts today, check out our updated to-do list to find out what's new!
      New Content Available This Week
Awakened Raids are now available! The first Awakened raid this week is Vault of the Incarnates! Proiritize clearing Vault for Season 4 loot and your first Antique Bronze Bullion. The first Catalyst charge is available today, but make sure to use it after you clear Awakened Vault to see how many tier set pieces you've acquired after your run. The final boss drops an omnitoken that all classes can roll for. Killing the final boss on Heroic Difficulty yields a token that you can exchange for 1 class set piece. Click here to learn more about Awakened Class Set acquisition methods! The item level of loot from all sources has gone up by +39 item levels in Season 4. Time Rifts, Fyrakk Assaults, and Dreamsurges now all offer better loot, compared to Season 3. If you own Fyr'alath or Nasz'uro, you can upgrade the legendaries to their S4 base Item Level (502) using Scale of Awakening that costs 2 Antique Bronze Bullion, but you can only get 1 this week. You can still upgrade S3 gear, but you can no longer acquire S3 crests. New crests are available for gear upgrading. You will find the gear upgrading brackets in our guide. New rewards await in Mythic+ Season 4! The latest PvP season also introduces new rewards and better gear. This week's bonus event is Burning Crusade Timewalking You can clear dungeons to unlock slots in the Great Vault alongside Item Level 467 loot! Complete 5 Timewalking Quests for the weekly quest to receive 1 piece of item level 493+ loot. Clear Black Temple Timewalking forI Item Level 493 loot. DHs who earned both warglaives the regular way can now obtain the Weapon Arsenal from Illidan which lets them use the legendaries for transmog. Thanks to the increased reputation buff, it's super fast this week to reach Revered with the Netherwing and add some cool mounts to your collection! In Shadowlands Season 4, we've seen Fated World Bosses, but it doesn't seem to be the case with Dragonflight Season 4, so it's not really worth killing World Bosses.

Here's a reminder for all Demon Hunters! Since it's Burning Crusade Timewalking you can earn Arsenal: The Warglaives of Azzinoth from Illidan if you earned the weapons the regular way!
Make sure to run Timewalking Black Temple on your Demon Hunter this week if you've unlocked the Warglaives of Azzinoth achievement with a character that can equip them.
You need to collect both warglaives to use them for transmog and to unlock the “I'll Hold These For You Until You Get Out” achievement.
Remember, achievement credit isn't shared across your account, so you must obtain both weapons with the same character.
If you haven't acquired the regular warglaives yet, now is a great time to start farming them. That way, you'll be prepared to grab the Arsenal at the next Burning Crusade Timewalking event.

It's super easy to go from Hated to Revered with the Netherwing faction during the Burning Crusade Timewalking event, and the reputation buff helps you unlock six awesome mounts fast!
Sign of the Twisting Nether is active this week and the buff increases Burning Crusade reputation gains from combat and quests by 50%, which means you can skip the tedious Netherwing grind.
Normally, you would go from Hated to Neutral with the Netherwing faction upon completing the questline that unlocks the faction.
With Sign of the Twisting Nether, you will go from Hated straight to Revered! If you haven't done the questline yet, now's the best time to do so!
Where to Start the Netherwing Questline?
You can start the questline at the crystals south of Warden's Cage in Shadowmoon Valley, where you must talk to a High Elf quest-giver named Mordenai wandering around the crystals. You will find more information here.
At Exalted with the Netherwind faction, you will receive one Netherwing mount for free and can buy the rest for 200 Gold from the vendor in Shattrath City.
The available mounts are listed below:
Reins of the Azure Netherwing Drake Reins of the Cobalt Netherwing Drake Reins of the Onyx Netherwing Drake Reins of the Purple Netherwing Drake Reins of the Veridian Netherwing Drake Reins of the Violet Netherwing Drake Here's a screenshot to better illustrate their appearance.

Season 4 has partially started on NA servers, as players are noticing elements of the new season popping up. This is actually planned and was announced by Blizzard, as you can see below, but players were not expecting this much to change before the reset.
      Season 4 (Source)
Dragonflight Season 3 will be ending April 22 at 10:00 p.m. PDT, the night before the regularly scheduled maintenance, with Dragonflight Season 4 beginning immediately following on April 23. The blue post indicated that the season should start soon after, on the 23rd, which presumably means after the weekly reset. Here are some of the things that have already changed.
Players have been reporting various aspects of the season being in-game, starting with Season 3 items now being marked as legacy, with a grey tooltip, as spotted by Strosts:

      Source.
Crests and Flightstones have also been reset, with new ones dropping from World Quests.
Catalyst charges are also now in Season 4 mode, as spotted by lemoncocoapuff.

We have four new zones coming in the War Within, but just how large are they, all told? We have a few community members showing their relative sizes off, comparing to various other expansion landmasses, which we'll be taking a look at today.
First of all, the new expansion has one above-ground zone and three below, as the Isle of Dorn is our gateway into the three underground zones. This is best showcased by Sturtime2, who broke the Dragonflight and War Within zones down (with Zaralek, Emerald Dream and Forbidden Reach all being post-expansion launch zones):

      Source.
Now that we have a better idea of the War Within zone structure, we have a more visually direct comparison by CygnetFR, who also added Kul Tiras in there for comparison:

      Source.
And finally we have another Dragon Isles comparison, only this time with the Easern Kingdoms thrown in, courtesy of keyboardturn:
