Protection Warrior Talents and Glyphs Guide

4 posts in this topic

Here is a guide I made for Protection Warriors that should help inform you about the various choices you have as far as talents and glyphs. This video was made in patch 6.2. I honestly hope that this helps somebody out there understand their protection warrior a little better. And if you have any questions or comments, just leave them in the comment section of the video. Enjoy!   :)

Hello everybody! I am mainly posting this so that I can get feedback on the guide I recently posted on youtube about protection warriors' rotations, abilities, and cooldowns. I just want to get input as to what I could improve upon for reference towards the next few guides I'll be making. If you are here because you are a new warrior and need help, then this guide could help you get a basic understanding of how a protection warrior's rotation should go and the important abilities and cooldowns to look out for. And if that is the case, then I genuinely hope I help you learn something! Anyways, if you have any suggestions, comments, ideas, or insights towards the guide, I encourage to voice them! I enjoy constructive criticism. But do make sure to voice them on the comment section of the video as I will see them and reply to them much faster than here on Icy Veins. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy the video!   :)

Hello there, my fellow warriors! I just wanted to share my protection warrior guide part 3 with you guys. It covers the stat priority/hierarchy, buffs/consumables, gems, enchantments, and briefly covers the priority for bonus stats you can randomly get on gear. I wanted to share this because I want feedback and input towards my guide. Ideas, suggestions, insights, and criticisms are welcome! Any comments, questions, ideas, suggestions, insights, or criticisms you have, make sure to leave in the comment section of the video as I will see them much sooner and be able to provide a quicker and better reply to whatever you comment. I am also sharing this because I genuinely hope that it helps somebody out there that may be struggling with understanding the protection specialization or just doesn't understand something in regards to the topic of this video. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy!  :D

If you enjoyed the video, remember to hit the like button!  :)

I have released Part 4 of the series today. The topic for this one is UI Layouts, Macros, Addons, & helpful places to look at for guides. As always, I appreciate the feedback, but do try and leave your comments, questions, feedback, ideas, or insight in the comment section of the video as I will see it much sooner there than anywhere else. I hope somebody out there is helped by this guide!  :)

If you enjoyed the video, remember to leave a like!   :D

      ABOUT US
We Tried is a mythic progression raiding guild formed by an ambitious raid leader seeking like minded, progression oriented players who would work together towards clearing the latest content while it is still considered relevant. After suffering some roster issues, We Tried merged with Procrastination in late December 2016 and together we have fully cleared Emerald Nightmare Mythic within just two weeks.
OUR PAST ACCOMPLISHMENTS & FUTURE GOALS
Although we have since slowed down, we are proud ourselves of holding the realm 27th Nythendra Mythic and 24th Elerathe Renferal Mythic kills.
Today we are actively working towards forming a raid team that would be able to attain our previous glory and compete on a realm wide level.
      CURRENTLY RECRUITING
      Frost DK
      BM/MM Hunter
      Retri Paladin
      Shadow Priest
      Elemental & Resto Shaman

      Sunday 20.00 - 23.00
      IDEAL RECRUIT
Our ideal recruits are players who are passionate about the game and about progress. Each raider is expected to do whatever they can to improve their skills outside of the raiding environment and pull their own weight within the raid.
We are looking for mythic ready players who, without fail, know the tactics for every boss prior to entering the instance; have solid knowledge of their class and continuously strive to improve themselves; have a near 100% attendance rating; are prepared to wipe often on progression nights and can not only take the constructive criticism that comes their way but are also able to give constructive criticism back, as well as share new ideas and approaches relevant to the content we are clearing at the time.
      CONTACT & INFO
If you have any questions or concerns you're welcome to contact me in game (Ririxia#2172) or on Discord (Ririxia#1469). You can find more info about our guild, guidelines, raiding policies, trials and the loot system, as well as apply on our website - http://we-tried.enjin.com

I’m in the process of rerolling a tank. My question is: How do I know if I’m doing a good job?

I currently play a hunter and as a DPS the metrics that I use to judge my performance are fairly simple. If I’m consistently sitting in the top X percentile of DPS for my spec and gear; and sitting in at least the bottom half of the raid for damage taken, I can be relatively sure that I’m doing good DPS and doing the mechanics well too.

However, as a tank this falls apart. Damage taken and even damage mitigated are poor metrics because I need to know if I’m taking and avoiding/mitigating the right damage. For example, I may mitigate 95% of the total damage in a fight, but if the 5% that I don’t mitigate is the 5% that is vital to avoid then I have done a poor job. Damage taken is bad because I may only be sitting at the top of damage taken because I didn’t switch when I needed to, therefore taking unnecessary damage.

Staying alive is a poor metric too, just because I’ve stayed alive doesn’t mean that I’ve done a good job. What if I’m only alive because a healer needed to make the choice to keep me alive while I was taking excess damage and sacrifice one or more DPS in the process.

Keeping threat and tank switching etc at the right time is bad as well because there is more to tanking than just mechanics.

I’ve done some reading and apparently there is or was a ranking system for tanks in wowlogs. But after a long look I can’t find it and all the posts relating to this were over 12 months old, so I assume it’s been removed.

I’ve also spoken to our MT about this and his response was ‘I don’t know’. As someone who wants to preform at the highest level possible, I find it unacceptable to not be able to judge how I’m preforming relative to my past self (am I improving?) and other people in a similar position.

So, how do I judge if I’m doing a good job tanking and what areas need to be improved?

      Hello,
I want to ask about my rotation cause i'm not doing that much dmg as i should or maybe i'm wrong.
Just need a few tips and if you could tell me what i could change in my rotation, gear, talents.

Since shield block doesn't do donkey dick for most of the tank buster mechanics and the boss auto attacks hit like a wet noodle, is it even worth gearing haste at all? Wouldn't I be better off going for only mastery/versatility?
