Wyatt Cheng Talks About Three Missing Transmogs On Live Servers

Recommended Posts

Patch 2.4.1 brought numerous farmable transmogrifications, but three of them never made it to live servers.

These three items are Steffon's Heavy LanceSteffon's Heavy Lance, Mace of the CrowsMace of the Crows and the notorious Harvest Pennant (also known as the Fallen Pennant). Players have been looking for them ever since Patch 2.4.1 hit the live servers. However, nobody found them and threads started popping up asking whether there was some sort of bug. Unfortunately, the team didn't realise in time that these cosmetics didn't exist in the live version of the game; Community Managers mistakenly urged players to look harder and that the transmogs were out there.

Today, Wyatt Cheng admitted that players weren't losing their minds, but the team had indeed made a mistake. The Senior Technical Game Designer explained how this omission happened and also made an official apology.

Blizzard LogoWyatt Cheng

Hi all,

In Patch 2.4.1, we introduced a number of new cosmetic items to the game including a few extremely rare items such as the Cosmic Wings and Rainbow Portrait. Among the items intended to be extremely rare are Steffon’s Heavy Lance, Mace of the Crows, and the Harvest Pennant (also known as the Fallen Pennant). As 2.4.1 unfolded, we were surprised to learn that nobody appeared to have found these items. Weeks passed, we checked and double-checked the data, and ran some internal tests—these items were intended to be rare and hidden, but had we perhaps hidden them too well?

Unfortunately, it turns out we made a mistake. Instead of making the items extremely rare, they did not appear at all. The development team is sorry for this huge misstep on our part—we know that our mistake caused many players to spend hours trying to locate items which we now see in hindsight was a wild goose chase.

How did this happen? Testing something that is intentionally extremely rare means we need to use some dedicated testing techniques. Our team uses a combination of code reviews, simulation and cheat codes to verify functionality. Sometimes things can appear to work correctly in parts, but malfunction when they are put together. For example, in the case of the Pennant, we were able to verify that individual portions of the criteria to obtain the Pennant functioned correctly, but the end to end process resulted in the Pennant being unattainable once the patch went live.

The dev team messed up and we’re sorry. We erroneously told our community team (including Nevalistis) that the Harvest Pennant could drop. We can’t make it right overnight but we’d like to start with two changes:

1. We’ve certainly learned our lesson, and going forward when things are intentionally this rare, we’ll have new testing procedures to make sure a similar mistake doesn’t happen again.
2. Although we cannot provide direct restitution to the individuals affected, we’re going to have a 48-hour Double Blood Shard Community Buff for this weekend.

Wyatt

You will be happy to know that all three items have been found on the Patch 2.4.2 PTR. They are not very hard to find and there are quite a few guides and videos for them. We won't spoil anything for you, though, in case you want to enjoy the experience of finding them on your own!

Season 21 is live for more than 48 hours, and the community reacts to the Seasonal buff that makes your character periodically channel an elemental power that unleashes into the environment.
If you haven't had the chance to catch up with the latest news, Season 21 just started and with it came a new Seasonal power that makes your character do all sorts of stuff like breath lightning, rain meteors from the skies around you, release twisters of energy, and more.
      (Source)
The elements have deemed you worthy. With you as their champion, the burning hells will face the Trials of Tempests! Your character will occasionally (every 90 seconds) channel an elemental power which unleashes into the environment for a limited time: Meteors rain from the skies around you. Breathe lightning. A wall of flame engulfs everything. Release twisters of pure energy. Crush your foes under the weight of rolling snowballs. The community perception of the latest Season 12 buff is all but positive. A Reddit thread titled "How did this seasonal effect make it past PTR?" has surfaced and accumulated more than 300 upvotes and we are highlighting the biggest concerns player have with the new Season theme:
Apparently, the graphic effects make it nearly impossible to see what's going on, making it extremely frustrating for Hardcore players. If you fight Orlash and get the breath, it is difficult to determine where to stand. Card
The sound that comes with it is obnoxious and distracts from gameplay and it cannot be turned off, Redditor stealth_elephant says. The third main concern is power. Many Redditors claim that it is good enough for ending massacres, but mediocre when it comes to killing enemies. Card
On the other side of the spectrum, Wudi provides enough perspective on both ends. He discovered that it is much easier to kill Rift Guardians now with the Season 21 buff in a group where you get 10,000 stack to virtually one-shot it.
What has your experience been with the Season 21 buff so far?

It seems Blizzard forgot to turn on the Season 21 buff on consoles and Leaderboards are showing Season 19 clears.
Community Manager PezRadar confirmed this to be a bug that they are currently looking into. It affects Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo Switch.

Did Blizzard forgot to turn on the buff on the Xbox???
Looking into this! Thanks for the reports.
A fix for Leaderboards that are showing old Season 19 clears is coming no sooner than Monday.
      (Source)
In addition to the season buff issues (I see already reported) - the leaderboards on switch are showing the s19 clears instead of current season.
Hi all - We need some engineers who will be available on Monday to really dig into this. This seems to be affecting all consoles. Will get on this first thing Monday. Sorry about the inconvenience on this.

Season 21 starts today!  It's going to be quite a season, especially for Demon Hunters. We've already taken a look at the top builds for solo pushing, speedfarming and group compositions, as well as the meta-breaking new 3x DH-based XP farm setup which dethroned Rat runs, so now its time to head for the full guides themselves, and we have them ready for all classes!

The Support build still reigns supreme, as it retains it's place in the new XP farm meta, and the rest of the rankings haven't changed since the last season, as Barbarians didn't get many changes.
Support Barbarian (Raekor + HotNS + Istvan) (Top Tier) Speed Farming Variant Rend Barbarian (WotW + Istvan) (Top Tier) Speed Farming Variation Seismic Slam Barbarian (MotE + Endless Walk) (Top Tier) Speed Farming Variation Frenzy Barbarian (HotNS + Endless Walk) (High Tier) Speed Farming Variation Hammer of the Ancients Raekor Barbarian (Raekor + Endless Walk + Istvan) (High Tier) Speed Farming Variation Hammer of the Ancients IK Barbarian (IK + Endless Walk) (High Tier) Speed Farming Variation Furious Charge Barbarian (IK + Raekor) (High Tier) Speed Farming Variation Leap/Earthquake Barbarian (MotE + Bastions) (High Tier) Speed Farming Variation Hammer of the Ancients GR Barbarian (Legacy of Dreams Gem) (Mid Tier) Whirlwind Wastes Barbarian (WotW + Bul-kathos) (Mid Tier) Speed Farming Variation Frenzy Thorns Barbarian (LoN) Speed Farming Variation

Crusaders also didn't get a big shift in rankings, as the seasonal power doesn't really affect the individual builds.
Heaven's Fury Crusader (Aegis of Valor) (Top Tier) Speed Farming Variation Blessed Shield Crusader (Legacy of Dreams Gem) (Top Tier) Thorns Crusader (Invoker + Endless Walk) (Top Tier) Speed Farming Variation Condemn LoD Crusader (Legacy of Dreams Gem) (High Tier) Condemn Akkhan Crusader (Akkhan + Bastions) (High Tier) Speed Farming Variation Hammerdin Crusader (SoL + Endless Walk) (High Tier) Speed Farming Variation Sweep Attack Crusader (Roland + Endless Walk) (Mid Tier) Speed Farming Variation Fist of the Heavens Crusader (Aegis of Valor) (Mid Tier) Speed Farming Variation Bombardment Crusader (LoN) (Mid Tier) Speed Farming Variation Shield Bash Crusader (Roland + Bastions) Speed Farming Variation

Season 21 is very much the season of the Demon Hunter, as their new Gears of Dreadlands set brought them 2 top tier builds, both for solo pushing and XP farming.
Support Demon Hunter (GoD + Marauder) (Top Tier) (New) Hungering Arrow Demon Hunter (GoD + Bastions) (Top Tier) (New) Bolas Variation Rapid Fire Demon Hunter (Legacy of Dreams Gem) (Top Tier) Rapid Fire Natalya Demon Hunter (Natalya + Endless Walk) (Top Tier) Impale Demon Hunter (Shadow + Endless Walk) (High Tier) Speed Farming Variation Group Progression Variation Sentry Demon Hunter (Marauder + Natalya + Endless Walk) (High Tier) Multishot Demon Hunter (Unhallowed + Bastions) (High Tier) Speed Farming Variation Cluster Arrow Demon Hunter  (Marauder + Bastions) (Mid Tier) Speed Farming Variation Rockets-based Progression Variation Grenades Demon Hunter (Unhallowed + Endless Walk) (Mid Tier) Speed Farming Variation Rain of Vengeance Demon Hunter (Natalya + Bastions) (Mid Tier) Speed Farming Variation Fan of Knives LoD Demon Hunter (Legacy of Dreams Gem) Chakram Demon Hunter (Unhallowed + Bastions) Speed Farming Variation

Monk support is still on top as the class build rankings stay the same as last season.

The Necromancer may have gotten the shorter end of the new set stick, but they did get plenty of new toys to play with, resulting in a new build at the top of the list and two more top tier ones, with a whole lot of LoD!
