overwatch Recap of the Sombra Hunt So Far!

A new clue went out yesterday that sparked a huge influx of new clues and possible information about Sombra! Take a look at our summary of everything that has happened so far and what might be due to happen.

The first clue that went up was a thread on the General Discussion forums of Overwatch. The thread was titled "0110010 00110011", which translates to the number 23. In the thread, a user by the name of Skycoder had made a post, but it was actually just a hoax. The page starts to break apart and a code starts appearing on the screen.

Judging by the use of the name Skycoder, which relates to past information about Sombra, it was assumed that the page had been hacked by Sombra and that the code was for us to play with.

The code was as follows:

The code was recognised as being a Based64 code and it was broken down and converted into a skull. There was already a skull in play from a previous clue, so the hunters now had two skulls to play with.

This then led to a number of new discoveries and steps over the course of a few hours. Here's what was found out last night:

  • If you compare the two skulls, see image here from Reddit, there are differences between the two.
    • This led to users managing to find a string that detailed the following: "LESPROMETIUNJUEGO...CREOQUEUSTEDESLOSDETECTIVESDEJUEGOSLOLLAMARIANUNTRAILHEAD?BLZGDAUSA-AMBAS-CALAVERAS.HTML"
    • "I promised you a game. I believe you Games Detectives would call it a trailhead? BLZGDAUSA-AMBAS-CALAVERAS.HTML"
    • By using the string above, they managed to find the following page: https://blzgdapipro-a.akamaihd.net/media/screenshot/usa-ambas-calaveras.html
      • This page seems to be from Ana's hospital entry when she was shot by Widowmaker.
      • The name Janina Kowalska is the Polish equivalent of Jane Doe.
      • We can assume that Sombra is trying to leak the fact that Ana faked her death.
  • There was also text found: "Parecen estar muy interesados en estos "héroes". ¿Tal vez les interese conocer algunos detallitos que he averiguado sobre ellos?"
    • This translates to: "You seem to be very interested in those "heroes". ¿Maybe you might be interested into knowing some tiny details I found about them?"
  • The thread that was initially posted on the forums is actually counting down. It started at 21 hours and is now, at the time of writing, at 10 hours.
    • Could this be a countdown to Sombra's announcement?
    • Could this be how long we have to solve the clue before Sombra disappears?
  • Through the use of the skycoder, a user managed to get "momentincrime".
    • This references an email address that was tweeted out by Blizzard in 2015, in which they talk about Roadhog/Junkrat's crime spree.
    • The users sent an email to the linked email and got the same automated response as in 2015, but with a slight twist, which sees Sombra hacking the response.

minals and bringing them to justice. These fugitives are responsible for a string of robberies, arson, and other crimes stretching from Sydney to King's Row.

Authorities believe that they have set their sights on crossing the Atlantic to America.

As time went on, the forum post from Sombra also started to change. It ended up displaying the following image:

At first, people thought that this was the exact image that Muselk had tweeted out as a challenge to Sombra.

Placeholder for tweet 767039209689546752

It quickly turned out that the image was however slightly different, so people have been trying to compare the two images to find any useful information that could lead us to what she was trying to say in response to the challenge.

For now, we just have to wait for either another big discovery or for the countdown to drop to 0.

This is seriously one of Blizzard's coolest ideas.  I love what they are doing and how they are involving the people in these clues and the hunt for Sombra.  Every time one of these things pops up its better than the last.  Thank you guys at icy-veins for covering it.  Without you I wouldn't be able to keep up on all of this!

Blizzard should make a book on how to create suspense... they know how to create the hype from their communities.

I'm just as hyped as all of you! Watching it unfold on the discord is truly amazing. That moment when someone actually finds something and everything gets all excited. It's great. Whoever it is that is behind this idea at Blizzard, this might actually be my favourite thing they've done.

The previously announced change to how ties will be broken in competitive play, with players now needing to capture at least 33% of a point for the system to take effect, was implemented today, along with some fixes to the Uprising brawl and Game Browser, as well as Genji's Dragonblade getting a few adjustments and more bug fixes.
It also seems that the patch added a pretty serious bug, making Blizzard disable D.Va in all regions for the moment:

        GENERAL
        Competitive Play
On Assault and Assault/Escort Maps, teams now need to capture at least 33% of the objective before the tie-breaking system is activated Developer Comments: When the new tie-breaking system was implemented on April 11, 2017, teams only needed to capture 1% to trigger the system. This occasionally resulted in confusing situations when games would end without a lot of information about how the point was captured, due to the brief capture time. To alleviate this problem, we’re requiring that teams progress past 33% before the tie-breaking system begins tracking progress. If neither team manages to cross 33%, the match will end in a draw. If you’d like to know more, click here.
        BUG FIXES
        General
Fixed a crash that could occur during the end-of-round screen
        Arcade
Fixed a bug that prevented the payload from showing damage until after the escort phase in the Overwatch Uprising brawl Fixed a bug that allowed players to get under the payload using certain heroes’ movement abilities in the Overwatch Uprising brawl [PC] Fixed a bug that caused the payload’s health bar to interfere with the scoreboard, forcing players to hold down the spacebar to view the scoreboard in the Overwatch Uprising brawl Fixed a bug that caused Genji’s “You’ve rescued me again, Dr. Ziegler” voice line to play after being resurrected in the Overwatch Uprising brawl, regardless of which hero performed the resurrection Fixed an issue causing the chat window to block the ‘refresh’ button when the Overwatch Uprising leaderboards were open [PS4] The “Handle With Care” Achievement now correctly states the payload must remain above 80% health [PS4/XB1] The Overwatch Uprising scorecard now correctly tracks stats from Sombra’s Hack [PS4/XB1] The Overwatch Uprising scorecard now correctly tracks Ana’s healing stats
        Custom Games and Game Browser
Fixed a bug that prevented the ‘Start Game Mode’ button from appearing when creating a Capture the Flag or Elimination game
        Heroes
Fixed a bug that gave Genji’s Dragonblade ability a slightly increased swing speed while at a higher latency. Dragonblade’s default swing speed has been slightly increased to compensate Fixed a bug that prevented Genji’s Dragonblade ability from registering hits correctly Fixed a bug to prevent hit effects from being inflicted on D.Va’s human form while piloting the mech [PS4/XB1] Fixed a bug causing D.Va’s hair to appear inflexible during her Selfie highlight intro when her Palanquin skin was equipped [PS4/XB1] Fixed a bug causing the ice on Pharah’s Frostbite skin to stretch when her Flair emote was activated [PS4/XB1] Fixed a bug causing textures to flicker during Roadhog’s Feast highlight intro [PS4/XB1] Fixed a bug causing Soldier: 76’s cape to clip during the Push-Ups emote when his Strike Commander Morrison, Daredevil: 76, or Stunt Rider: 76 skin was equipped
        Maps
Fixed a bug causing glass that has been shattered by an explosion to be colored black Previous patch notes.

Jeff Kaplan took to the forums to talk about plans for new maps this year, and while he did mention at least 6 that are being worked on, 3 fit into the standard Quick Match and Competitive systems and are already in advanced testing stages, with 3 more presumably for the Arcade in earlier stages of development. The post came in reply to a user's question on whether only two maps a year, as we've gotten so far (Oasis and Eichenwalde), was enough to sustain the game in the long term.
        Jeff Kaplan (source)
We currently have 3 maps in development, all past the initial playtesting phase that are "standard" maps (QP/Comp). While something could always change, all 3 of those are looking likely for a release this year.
We also have 3 non-standard maps in development (these won't go in QP/Comp).
We also have a few other experiments going on.
Hopefully this will satisfy some of what you're looking for. We want to play on these maps as badly as you guys do. We'll work as fast as we can!

A new co-op mode, a hundred+ cosmetic items, big Lucio changes and more!
Well, it seems it's called Uprising and not Insurrection as the French trailer leak showed, but the rest was on point. A new co-op brawl, the usual 100+ new cosmetic items, going back to the early days of the Overwatch organization, Tracer's first mission specifically and more await in this new event that's live now and lasts until May 1st. We also get a brand new lore video, featuring Tracer!

You can also check out the full patch notes, featuring some major Lucio changes, right here, and the comic of the same name as the event, here.

Get ready for the ultimate recall. Our latest seasonal event turns back the clock, giving you the chance to relive a pivotal moment in Overwatch history. Explore the stories behind some of your favorite heroes, unlock pieces of the past with over 100 declassified Loot Box items, or suit up with your friends and join Tracer on her very first mission in a brand-new cooperative brawl.
It's time to rewind the future. Welcome to Overwatch Uprising!
        CELEBRATE THE OVERWATCH LEGACY
Starting today, all in-game Loot Boxes have been replaced with Uprising Loot Boxes. These special time capsules have been filled to the brim with mementos from the earlier eras of Overwatch—including Mercy’s "Combat Medic Ziegler" and Tracer’s "Cadet Oxton" skins, "Talon Widowmaker," "Blackwatch Genji," "Blackwatch McCree," and more!

As with our previous events, any Loot Boxes you earn or purchase will contain at least one skin, highlight intro, emote, spray, or player icon from the Overwatch Uprising collection. While the contents of each Uprising Loot Box are random, you can unlock a variety of these cosmetic customization options with credits in the Hero Gallery throughout the event's duration.

Once you've unlocked an Overwatch Uprising item, it will be yours forever, which means you can use it all-year round. The collection will be re-encrypted on May 1, however, when the event concludes, so be sure to fire up your favorite gaming machine and browse the archives before it's too late!
        WELCOME TO THE TEAM, AGENTS
From now until May 1, you and three friends must journey seven years into the past, joining forces as Tracer, Torbjörn, Reinhardt, and Mercy to quell an uprising on the streets of King’s Row. A group of omnic separatists known as Null Sector has overwhelmed the area, and you must defeat the robots to liberate the city. The future depends on you.
To defeat this new threat, you’ll need to work together with your team, developing new strategies and adapting on the fly as the seemingly unstoppable force continues its assault. The robots of Null Sector will stop at nothing—so you and your fellow agents need to be prepared for anything.
        THE OMNIC UPRISING BEGINS
We're also decrypting more of Overwatch’s history over on our social media channels, so be sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for additional intel. And as always, don't forget to keep an eye on playoverwatch.com to stay up to date with the latest game news.

Overwatch Uprising is live RIGHT NOW on Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One—so get out there, soldier, and make Commander Morrison proud.

The new event brings new patch notes, and aside from all the new stuff added for Uprising, we're finally getting some Hero backstory available in-game in the Hero Gallery, the tie-breaking feature from the PTR, Custom Game Browser improvements, as well as big changes to Lucio, for his healing, wall-riding and gun! Also Orisa was made smaller. Well, her hitbox at least. Would this qualify as fat-shaming, even if she's a robot?

        GENERAL
        General
Details about each hero’s unique backstory, along with information about some of their lore-inspired skins, have been added to the Hero Gallery [PC] The Player Report system has been redesigned, adding new reporting options and activity examples to better capture the reason for each report In-game voice conversations for the Overwatch Uprising event can now be displayed as subtitles. This can be enabled under the “Sound” tab in the “Options” menu
        Competitive Play
A tracking system has been added to Assault and Assault/Escort Maps that will allow us to break ties based on the progress that was made toward capturing the objective.
Developer Comments: To mitigate draws in Competitive Play, we're implementing a system that tracks each team's progress on the objective. This will work similarly to the system that's already in place for Escort and Assault/Escort maps, which grants a win to the team that pushes the payload the furthest. Now, even if neither team successfully captures the objective, a winner can be determined based on which team captured the largest portion.
        Custom Games and Game Browser
Custom Game settings can now be saved as a preset from the game’s details page. This can be accessed by right-clicking on the map image from the Create Game page, right-clicking a game name from inside the Game Browser, or via the save button on the settings page Players can now change weapon clip and magazine size or grant unlimited ammunition when creating a custom game
        Maps
A new route has been added to Eichenwalde that connects the attacking team's spawn area to the capture point
          HERO UPDATES
        Lúcio
Sonic Amplifier Damage increased by 25% Projectile speed increased from 40 to 50 Alternate fire now considers vertical orientation when knocking targets back Crossfade Area of effect radius has been decreased from 30 meters to 10 meters Heal Song Healing-per-second has been increased by 30% (also applies to Lúcio's Amp It Up ability) Self-healing has been reduced by 25% Wall Ride Movement speed increased by 20% when wall riding Lúcio now receives a burst of speed when leaping off a wall Developer Comments: Lúcio has often felt like a must-pick due to his raw healing output and the versatility of providing a speed bonus to your entire team. The goal of these changes is to keep those elements feeling strong, but making them harder to apply to everyone on your team at all times. The end result is that he should feel stronger with teams that he can stay close to but not as strong when on teams with heroes that are often spread out (such as Pharah, Widow, Genji, etc). Much of Lúcio’s character power was tied up in his large passive auras, which caused other elements of his kit to be weakened over time in an attempt to balance him. Now that his auras are more focused it will allow them to be much stronger and allow Lúcio to be more active in his role.
        Orisa
The size of Orisa’s head hitbox has been decreased by 15%
        BUG FIXES
        General
Fixed an issue preventing voice lines from being played on Control maps
        Competitive Play
Fixed an issue that was preventing Top 500 icons from appearing until after completing a competitive match Fixed a bug preventing achievements from being unlocked during off-season competitive matches Fixed a bug that forced Play of the Game highlights to be drawn from the last round of play
        Custom Games and Game Browser
Fixed an issue allowing empty player slots to be displayed even when disabled (e.g. in 6v1 games) Fixed a bug preventing the pause feature from working properly after the original host has left the match Fixed a bug that allowed extremely long team names Removed unnecessary customization options (e.g. cooldown options for abilities with no cooldown)
        Heroes
Ana no longer cocks her rifle after throwing a grenade The brightness on Bastion's golden gun has been toned down when the BlizzCon skin is equipped Fixed a bug causing Mei's pinky to bend awkwardly in some poses when her Chang'e and Luna skins were equipped
        Maps
Fixed a bug on Eichenwalde that allowed enemy player outlines to be seen through a pile of dirt at the castle gate Fixed an issue on Eichenwalde that allowed players to become trapped in the broken castle doors Fixed a bug that allowed Sombra to reach unintended locations on King's Row Fixed a bug that allowed players to reach unintended areas on the Capture the Flag version of Lijiang Tower Fixed a bug that allowed Symmetra to hide turrets in unintended locations on Oasis Previous patch notes.
