hearthstone Hearthstone Mentioned in World Chess Championship Cast

Hearthstone got an unusual shout out during commentary of Game eight of the World Chess Championship last night.

As you can imagine, commentary on Chess can wander off topic at times. During one such moment, one of the commentators, Peter Svidler, currently world number 21 (Fide Rating of 2742), managed to drop in a Hearthstone quote. He follows it up by showing knowledge of a meme that surrounds the game.

I was also amused by the way that GM Gustafsson drags the commentary back to the game after realising they've rambled long enough. We've all seen Hearthstone casts that do this!

There is more information on the event and commentators in this Reddit thread started by /u/pm_me_fargo_quotes. The YouTube video of the game can be found here.

I have to admit that I didn't realize chess commentary was a thing (and I've done my turn on the tournament scene).  Seems like there would be about 95% downtime\idle chatter.

That's why it's indefinitely harder and more important than Hearthstone commentary. Either nothing happens (and it's hard to stay funny for a long time) or it's so complex you can't go over it even in 100 minutes.

I would imagine they must talk a huge amount about possible futures rather than present plays, at least for a lot of the game.

Year of the Mammoth Arena Guide now available!
Our Arena Guide has been updated by Pesty, to fully reflect the format for The Year of the Mammoth.
As well as the new tier list for classes, the guide addresses each class in detail, so that you can get the most out of your Arena draft. It also discusses which Mana curves work well with which class, and how to pick on your opponents' likely weaknesses.
The new Tier List is shown below:
Tier 1 (Excellent): Mage, Rogue Tier 2 (Great): Paladin, Hunter Tier 3 (Good): Druid, Priest, Shaman, Warlock, Tier 4 (Average): Warrior For any feedback or questions about this guide, check out our Hearthstone General Discussion Forum, or comment in this thread.

The 97th Tavern Brawl is called 'An Ancient Recipe' and it offers players the chance to try out Journey to Un'Goro decks.
The rules of this Brawl are simple: you choose a hero and you get a premade deck with the Un'Goro deck recipe for that class. The deck archetypes are the following and we even have guides for most of them:
Quest Druid Dinomancer Hunter Elemental Mage (guide for almost identical deck here) Quest Paladin Quest Priest Quest Rogue Elemental Shaman Quest Warlock Quest Warrior All deck recipes have pretty good winning chances. This is a nice chance to play with cards you don't own and get to know the new Hearthstone expansion better.
