Significant Changes Coming to Primal Ancient Items

Primal Ancient items spark controversy since their introduction and are dubbed a terrible and lazy design choice. The issue with the philosophy is that boosting stats isn't new content or gameplay what the Diablo developer team should be focusing on.

Loving the amount of thoughtful and constructive discourse on this topic. We knew introducing Primal Ancients would be somewhat controversial, because they are meant to be very rare, and we appreciate the time and effort you all have taken to testing them thus far. We're reading as many threads, watching as many videos, and listening to as many streams as possible to gather your thoughts and reflect on them. 

There are definitely some good and valid concerns, and we are going to be making some significant design changes with Primal Ancients. These changes aren't set in stone and have some technical hurdles behind them, so they won't be making the next PTR patch, but a future one instead.

Communication is key this early on in PTR. Are you checking all the primal related threads in the PTR feedback, or just this one?

We're definitely looking at multiple threads, it's just much easier for us to pick a centralized location to converse.

On a related note, it's easier on us if there's more of a centralized discussion, so while other threads likely won't go unnoticed, it's much easier for us to parse one thread on a topic than fifty.

Let's hope they will be turned into something more impactful!

I believe in the "significant changes" when I see them.

After the disaster of the New Tristram event it is absolutly clear what Diablo means to Blizzard: Less then nothing.

If they are not interested in investing more then maybe 2 hours of coding on the 20th birthday celebration - why should they do anything interesting this year at all?

 

The necromancer will be an overpriced (my guess: 15 bucks, maybe even 20) class with absolutly nothing new or interesting compared to the other classes. But wait, I forgot, he has no mana! They call it some other thing I cant remember. Yeah, that is fantastic, that is innovation, that is new and exciting - well, at least as much as blizzard is able to do.

 

It is realy sad to see the state Blizzard is in. Blizzard had such a fantastic team, they made incredible games. They had good stories, fantastic cinematics, great dialogues, the games where made with love. Warcraft, Diablo 1+2, Starcraft, Brood-War...

Well, that was a long time ago, these times are gone forever I fear :(

      The double XP weekend just ended today and now we get a new patch! This small patch fixes a number of issues, like anniversary transmogs not working properly, Rift progress orbs spawning closer to enemies, new Necromancer portraits and a few more minor fixes.

      Important: Please note that you will not be prompted to download Patch 2.6.0a until the patch is live in your home region. If you are logging in from a European or Asian client, you will need to wait for this patch to release in that region before it can be installed. Additionally, if your home region is in the Americas, you will be unable to log into Europe or Asia using Global Play after Patch 2.6.0a is live until those regions have also patched.

      The double XP weekend is live everywhere and will last from today, July 14th until July 17th. The exact end times are in the blue post below. If you'll recall, the reason for the weekend was due to the lateness of a hotfix that corrected exploits some players used to level up their legendary gems, so it is one of those rare occasions where exploiters actually did something good for the rest of us! In any case, head on down to Sanctuary and get those Paragon levels (or, like me, level your hardcore characters).

      Starting this weekend, all heroes who log in to Diablo III on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will receive double the usual amount of experience points!
      The bonus buff begins in the Americas, Australia, and on console today, July 14 at 5 p.m. PDT and ends Monday, July 17 at 10 a.m. PDT. The buff is currently live in other regions and will end at various times (see below for details).

      The recently posted hotfixes should be live now and Blizzard's holding a double XP weekend as an apology for the delays starting this Friday.
      Additionally, players that were using exploits to level up their gems will have them reverted to a rank that would have been legitimately achievable prior to the patch going live.

      Hey all,

      I know you've been eagerly awaiting an update, so a few things to share with you:

      First, we extended the post cap on this thread. Let's try to keep discussion and feedback on this topic here as best we can to keep our General forums more organized.

      Secondly, the hotfix has now been deployed. This should be applicable to all regions at this time. Thank you so much for your patience!

      Lastly, we will be rolling back Legendary Gem levels to the maximum gem level that would have been legitimately achievable prior to the patch going live. As with all previous exploits, any additional actions we may take will not be discussed outside of our staff and offending individuals. 

      We will be holding a double XP weekend starting Friday, July 14 at 5 p.m. PT and ending Monday, July 17 at 10 a.m. PT as an apology for the delays and our gratitude for your patience as we address this issue.
