Which legendary should I use?

7 posts in this topic

Okay, so i got a 3rd legendary for my frost mage, Sephuz's Secret, the issue is that I have the crafted legendary shoulders and Lady Vashj's gloves equipped. My stats: Crit 33%, Haste 23%, Mastery 32%, and Vers 4%. When I equip the ring, my crit and haste bump quite a bit up, and i lose a bit of mastery (because the gloves i use as a replacement have crit and haste too). Should I keep gloves on for their equip bonus, or should i replace them with Sephuz's for the stats and ilvl increase? I know my crit will be above the soft cap with ring, but i can swap gems and enchants for haste ones as noted on the guide.

~Thanks, Underclocked

Based on what you have posted for specs, crit is good, haste is way to low, should be highest after intellect, mastery is way to high, no more than 25 percent. so i would swap in legendary and switch trinkets to boost intellect and haste, your crit is good maybe a tad high. hope this helps out.

Thank you for the help, so I took off the legendary gloves, equipped some 890's with +341 crit, +853 haste, and +511 leech. I also replaced a stat stick that had int and crit with an 895 Pharamere's Forbidden Grimoire, which gives +1,158 haste. The ring I replaced with Sephuz's Secret had the same stats, but was 860 ilvl, so all it did was give bonus points into crit and haste. Before the new gems and enchants, I'm now at 32% crit, 32% haste, 29% mastery, 4% vers, and 2% leech. My intellect is 40,614.

While yes, hitting crit cap is important, the legendary effect of the gloves is huge, if you can get a good 40-50 second IV going, that's 4-5 free Ice Lances. You should be working your secondary stats on other gear around your legendaries/tier pieces, not the other way around. Sephuz is a great legendary effect as long as the fight has kicks, and is a pretty decent one even without the ability to proc the extra haste, especially when compared to the crafted effect.

The gloves are great for that, problem is, not enough haste you take longer to cast. gloves do not offer improvement until haste comes up. then will gain benefit. i agree completely on your statement about working the other stats around the tier pieces.

Your stats are looking good right now.

I do remember that it was pretty easy to stay crit-capped before Nighthold raiding, so you're good. It becomes harder to stay at 33% with the tier set. However, you're well on your way.

Though, I didn't start using the legendary gloves until I got the legendary bracers to go with them. Just get yourself a couple gear pieces to swap legendaries out, and practice rotations on target dummies until you find the combination giving you the best dps

I usually sim my characters to get the best possible results. I enjoy the process quite a lot and since I reached 120, I wanted to find out the best build of the spec. (Note, I didn't want to find out what to play, but rather how my own build fares in comarison.) I rarely mind a 1-2% difference. If it goes above 2%, I really mind a change. What this thread is about is mainly to bring something in the attention of those who help making the class guides, especially the talent choices. To my surprise, I was awed to find out that certain talents outperform previous "Standard" choices in the endgame, probably due to the stat squish.

The Frost go-to build (top dps) would probably be along the lines of <Icy Talons / Cold Heart - Runic Attenuation - Frozen Pulse - Gathering Storm - Breath of Sindragosa>. What I found out primarily was that after the removal of legendaries, Cold Heart severely underperforms at most given situations resulting in a major dps drop due to the low mastery. Gathering Storm also suffers from the same problem and most of the times, Frostwyrm's Fury is better overall. The biggest surprise of them all, however, was that Inexorable Assault overperforms quite a lot, and is the first reason why I made the topic. I then started simming with the above in mind and I came across a build that some would not consider on par with top dog builds around the meta, which is the use of Horn of Winter which overperforms both its other two options when using the Breath build. Talent Sim can be seen here. Another intresting thing, which I loved, was that the 2nd best build uses Obliteration as a lvl 100 talent and no other build surpassed it (Other than the first one, obviously). So, I encourage frost players out there to give their other, less common talents a try. To the class guide author(s), I believe that the two "underdog" talents will earn their spot in the class guides.

Thank you for your time reading this.
