PTR Patch Notes Featuring New Horizon Map

Well, it seems Horizon was close than we though as the new PTR is live now! Tha patch also features the gravity and variable jump height options for custom games, as well as McCree, Reaper and Roadhog tweaks. You can also check out the trailer and dev update for the new map here.

Please note that the below patch notes only include changes currently available for testing on the PTR. While many of these changes will also be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in a future patch, the PTR is PC-only and therefore will only reflect changes coming specifically to that platform.

PATCH HIGHLIGHTS

New Assault Map: Horizon Lunar Colony

Built as a first step towards humanity's renewed exploration of space, the Horizon Lunar Colony’s goal was to examine the effects of prolonged extraterrestrial habitation—on human and ape alike. The scientists’ research proved incredibly promising...until, suddenly, all contact and communications with the base were lost.

New Legendary Skins

  • Oni Genji and Officer D.Va have been added to classic loot boxes

CUSTOM GAMES AND GAME BROWSER

  • Player gravity and projectile gravity can now be modified
  • Knockback magnitude can now be modified on any weapons or abilities that have a knockback effect
  • Jump height can now be modified

HERO UPDATES

McCree

  • Deadeye
    • Targets now begin locking on after 0.2 seconds, instead of 0.8 seconds
    • Damage accumulated over the first 1.0 seconds increased from 20 to 80 (damage per second after the first 1.0 seconds is unchanged)

Developer Comment: McCree’s ultimate can deal a lot of damage if it has a lot of time to build up, but it was often too difficult to get even a small amount of damage out before being stopped or killed. These changes make it more flexible and powerful.

Reaper

  • The Reaping (Passive)
    • Removed health orbs
    • Now regains 20% of all damage done to heroes as health

Developer Comment: Reaper’s old healing passive was useful if you could kill a bunch of enemies in a row. But since enemies needed to be dead for it to work, it wasn’t very helpful unless the situation was already in your favor. His new passive lets him get immediate benefit from it, especially when fighting Tank heroes, which tend to be larger targets that deal lower damage.

Roadhog

  • Head hitbox size reduced by 20%
  • Scrap Gun
    • Bullet damage decreased by 33%
    • Fire rate increased by 30%
    • Clip size increased from 4 to 5

Developer Comment: Roadhog’s head was abnormally large compared to similarly-sized characters, so we’re reducing its size to increase his survivability. The Scrap Gun changes reduce the power of his hook combo and alternate fire burst damage potential while still keeping his DPS roughly the same.

USER INTERFACE UPDATES

  • A quick summary of each player's most-played heroes is now available by highlighting the player in the Groups section of the Social menu (statistics displayed will dynamically change based on the mode/ruleset)
  • A new "All Modes" option has been added to the Career Profile that allows players to view combined stats from all game modes
  • A new "All Competitive Seasons" option has been added to the Career Profile that allows players to view combined stats from all Completive Play seasons
  • The “Damage Done” statistic has been replaced with “Hero Damage Done” in multiple locations
  • A new “Barrier Damage Done” statistic has been added to the Statistics section of the Career Profile, as well as an “All Damage Done” statistic, which combines damage done to barriers and heroes
  • Averages are now calculated in 10-minute slices, rather than by the number of games played
  • “Rate This Match” option no longer appears at the end of a match

Developer Comment: The new “Hero Damage Done” statistic is the same as the old “Damage Done” statistic, but it doesn’t include damage done to barriers, only damage against heroes and placed objects (e.g. Torbjörn’s turret). That number can be found in the new “Barrier Damage Done” or “All Damage Done” statistics. However, since “Hero Damage Done” and “Barrier Damage Done” are brand new, their averages will only be based on time played since they were added.

Also, the old statistics were calculated by taking total damage inflicted and dividing it by the number of games played. This resulted in an average that didn’t accurately reflect the underlying performance, because it didn't take into account the length of the games. The new averages are calculated in 10-minute slices.

BUG FIXES

General

  • Fixed an issue causing players to lose progress on their On Fire meter, after the meter had been completely filled

Arcade

  • Fixed a bug that could cause the announcer's “select your hero” voice line to play during the end-of-match screen after Elimination games
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the Z’s from appearing above a sleeping enemy during Elimination games

Competitive Play

  • Fixed a bug that caused your first win to appear as a loss in your Career Profile

Custom Games and Game Browser

  • Fixed a bug that prevented some settings from being properly displayed in the summary when viewing 3v3 Elimination presets
  • Clarified an error message that appears when a player attempts to exit the Settings page with an invalid combination of settings
  • Fixed a bug that caused the lighting from health packs to appear on Capture the Flag and Elimination maps even after health packs had been disabled
  • Fixed a bug that allowed Torbjörn’s Armor Pack ability to function even after being disabled in custom settings

Heroes

  • Fixed a bug that prevented players from hearing the voice line that typically accompanies their ultimate if they executed the ultimate after being stunned
  • Fixed a bug that could cause D.Va to become stuck if her mech was killed just as she summoned it
  • Fixed a bug preventing Genji’s sound effects from playing if he used his primary attack immediately after a Swift Strike
  • Fixed a typo in Orisa’s “Satisfied with Protection” voice line
  • Fixed a bug that prevented Orisa’s Supercharger from being destroyed if run over by the payload
  • Fixed a typo in the description on Roadhog’s Junkenstein skin
  • Fixed a bug that allowed enemy players to detect Sombra (while Stealth was active) if they were within a certain distance
  • Fixed a bug causing Symmetra’s hair to take on an unnatural appearance when her Vishkar or Architech skins were equipped
  • Fixed a bug with how Widowmaker’s Grappling Hook interacts with the flying drones on Oasis

Maps

  • Fixed a bug on Volskaya Industries that prevented the ice from appearing broken when players fell off a ledge to their death

User Interface

  • Fixed a bug that caused the Heroes of the Storm promotional portraits to appear locked, even after being unlocked
  • Fixed a bug that could cause an error message in chat if you attempted to spectate a new player while already spectating another player
  • Fixed a bug that could cause the chat window to be placed too high on the main menu, blocking menu options
  • Fixed a bug that prevented text from wrapping in the Report Player text box

      Yesterday on the Overwatch League stream we had a big reveal for Twitch All Access Pass holders, with Lúcio receiving his first legenday emote, and it's a doozy too! Coming out on July 24th, the emote joins the 15 league skins, twitch emotes, a global twitch chat badge, a lot of various insider content as well as an in-game spray and player icon. The Lúcio emote looks like one of the most complex ones to date and is probably the most worth-while item in the whole package, so make sure to check it out.

      Let’s look at some of the features.
      LÚCIO LEGENDARY EMOTE
      Get ready to break it down with a new legendary Lúcio emote! This limited-time exclusive is available starting Tuesday, July 24, to all Twitch All-Access passholders. If you’re not already an All-Access member, go here to join. Read on to learn more about the great content you’ll get as an All-Access member.
      PLAYERS PACK
      As announced on Twitch Day on April 14, All-Access passholders will receive 12 Overwatch League team away skins in May. The skins, which will represent one fan-favorite hero for each team, will be automatically deposited into the game accounts linked with All-Access passholders.
      Insider Content
      To allow super fans to dive deeper into the league they love, the All-Access Pass grants access to the Overwatch League Command Center: a second-screen match-day livestream, featuring alternate in-game camera angles, backstage cameras, player POVs, and real-time stats. Your pass also provides access to exclusive behind-the-scenes VODs. In Stage 3, this will be in the form of a weekly series called Behind the Screens, in which an Overwatch League player will give their own analysis of a recent game.
      We know Overwatch League fans love interacting with their favorite players, so All-Access Passholders will be able to view and contribute to Match Day AMAs. Passholders can participate by submitting questions in chat during a special player livestream following the conclusion of Overwatch League broadcasts.
      To celebrate the launch of the program—and to give all Overwatch League fans a taste of what the All-Access Pass experience will offer—the Command Center, Behind the Screens and Match Day AMAs will be free through May 15th!
      Twitch Content
      Overwatch League All-Access Pass will offer 23 global emotes, including gold team emotes and character ability emotes:
      To further show off in chat, All-Access grants you a global chat badge, so you can rep the Overwatch League on Twitch no matter where you are. And in Overwatch League chat itself, you’ll have the global badge and a subscription icon (if you have Twitch Prime, we’ve made it look a little extra-special).
      You’ll be able to show off your badges and try out these new emotes in the subscriber-only Twitch chat room, where super fans from around the world can enjoy in-depth conversations.
      All-Access also will grant an ad-free Overwatch League experience on Twitch.

      More feedback on the LFG and Endorsement systems and it seems they've had a massive positive effect on toxicity of players and are making the game much more enjoyable! So far we only got stats for KR and the Americas with EU coming later, but the numbers are very impressive nonetheless:

      Yes, some quality of life changes are coming very soon. For example, in an upcoming patch the LFG system will persist your filters across logins.
      So the new social systems greatly improved quality of life in the game, but even if they hadn't, it's great to see Blizzard trying new things to improve community interaction, especially since it working in one game can easily be transferred to other games as well. Imagine if your acceptance into a M+ or raid group was based off of recommendations and endorsements instead of raw ilevel and achievements alone...

      Activision Blizzard signed a historic deal for the broadcast rights to the Overwatch League on US television. For the next 2 years ESPN, Disney XD and ABC will be covering the league events, both live and as summaries. This marks the first time esports will be shown in prime time on a major network, with the quarter and semifinals aired live on DisneyXD and ESPN 2 and 3, while the finals will be shown on both ESPN, ESPN 2 and Disney XD. The package also includes the very first airing of competitive gaming on ABC, one of the big four broadcast networks in the US, with the highlights recap of the finals airing on July 29th. This marks a huge step forward for esports and its presence in the mainstream media, and it seems appropriate for Overwatch to make this first step, as it's already pushed into the pop culture realm.

      The 86th Floor and Hype Creations teamed up to bring us this massive Overwatch cosplay music video, set to Shibuya Sunrise’s original track “Know my place” and featuring so many Heroes and skins in action. Opening with 3 reapers on one team and a McCree that let his bear go a little, the video goes through a few rounds of face-offs and ends with everyone figuring out who the real threat is.       The Overwatch cosplay community is very active, imaginative and talented, and as a result we've seen plenty of both accurate and impressive Hero looks so far, but today's adds a little bit of exo-suit crafting as well! Gryphon's Gears constructed a great (and functional/usable) version of D.Va's White Rabbit mech skin:

        
      Hopefully it doesn't have the self destruct ult so it stays around a long time.
      Also, let's look forward to/hope for a working Wrecking Ball one with rolling included!
