Gamescom 2017 is over and Kendric has started uploading his gameplay videos of Kel'thuzad and upcoming Hero reworks, where he summarizes new talents, shares his impressions and more.

After all the waiting, excitement and stiffed upper lip, hafta say I'm kinda disappointed by Jaina's rework. Now, before you lynch me, hear me out pls.

When I say disappointed, it's not for the actual changes but rather the size. It looks MUCH smaller in size & scope compared to pretty much every other one before her (and the ones in the same patch as well). That breath of fresh air sure helps her a lot and I like it- the only part I have a small protest for is, the requirement for auto attacks to reduce Blizzard cd can put you in tight spots more often than not (you already jeopardize yourself needing to come close in order to use Cone of Cold). The bonus damage is sure nice however and it'll be very helpful while abilities are down. Personally, I'd be really happy if they gave her some more unique talents (around 2-4) because, if this ships as is, I don't think it's gonna solve her "build carved in stone" problem (the moments you'll think before branching will still be few and far between) & a few quality of life changes (make bonus range talents baseline, maybe Snowstorm a quest that gradually increases its radius the more you hit Heroes with it-rewarding good play on your part). They have revisited Heroes who have been reworked in the past, either doing another equal in size or even bigger rework or just some small changes plus giving them extra unique talents (Kael'thas relatively recently); they may even make changes during the PTR patch so I can be hopeful c:

I know, I know "you annoyed the !@#$%& out of us 'REWORK HER!' and 'REWORK HER!', don't be an ungrateful whiny lamea$$ (insert cosmetic adjectives at leisure)." Well, you see, I try not to :3

I also hope that they give her another skin with different voice lines cause I'm not really fond of that one (don't like it when my favorite characters turn IIIIIIIIIIIVILLLL, inside jokes and memes aside) but she has gotten a ton already so I don't see it happening...:( (in the close future at least). On the other hand, waifu announcer FINALLY C: <333.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I don't even play Jaina, but I was expecting more changes to her. I think her old Talents are solid and work fine, but a tweaking could indeed bring something new to the character (by also removing the generic talents). At least to increase her options and give a wider variations of talent builds.

On the other hand, I don't think that Chromie needed a rework at all. At least not so soon. She works perfectly fine as she is now; annoying as fuck.

My  guess is that with another Support losing Cleanse (Morales rework), they wanted to target Chromie specifically to shunt that early game deleting power that remains consistently strong from start to finish to become more evenly spread out throughout the game. Being a Support main and watching someone in a Time Loop animation with Cleanse on cooldown is bad enough, but having less heroes with the tool actually save them from it is even worse, but at least with the Chromie rework it'll be more manageable from a Support POV when she gets her ult and starts deleting your team at that critical juncture on the race to 10 on smaller maps such as Towers of Doom.

Hey guys, 

First of all I hope you enjoyed the videos despite the slight audio/video desync issues. 

Here's my personal take on the individual reworks and my attempt to perhaps analyze why they chose the Heroes they chose. 

  • Jaina: Jaina has never been a "bad" Hero per se, it was just the lack of protection and/or mobility that made her vulnerable to many Warriors and melee Assassins. So rather than reworking every single talent and ability Blizzard tackled what needed to be tackled: Make Iceblock available earlier without making it ridiculously broken. The 15.000 damage is a decent obstacle, good players will have Iceblock ready around Level 13, which is totally fine! The few talents that were newly introduced/reworked alll feel well thought of. So overall, Jaina was touched very gently, which was exactly what she needed. My score on this rework is 9/10 (bonus points for the awesome Dreadlord skin)
  • Leoric: The strongest rework definitely went on Leoric. He was actually a fine Hero before the rework in terms of combat performance, however, his talents were often set in stone, furthermore, his playstyle was not very exciting in my opinion. So Leoric's is different from Jaina's. Jaina was tackled because she lacked competitiveness. Leoric was tackled because his playstyle was sort of unspectacular. The new talents on Leoric are all highly competitive, some of them are clearly too strong! Furthermore, the 50 second cooldown on March of the Black King is ridiculous! My personal score on the rework: 8/10 (felt a bit too strong, needs nerf)
  • Lt. Morales: Similarly to Leoric, her playstyle was not very engaging. She's also easier to get into now, as players will no longer have to worry about Mana problems all the time. The grenade build felt very powerful, but is Lt. Morales going to be a top-tier support after the rework? Probably not. Will she be more fun to play? Personally, I do think so. So from a casual point of view the rework is a success, from a competitive one it isn't great but ok, because at least she won't be worse than before. 7/10. 
  • Chromie: Out of all the new Heroes I played Chromie the least. Quick summary: felt slightly more powerful than before. Pretty ok rework, but nothing fancy. 6/10.

Man, tell me about Chromie. Either her dev must be a really high authority figure or Blizz just clearly favors her for some reason. Buffs every 2nd patch for like, 3-4 times. And after that, more buffs- which she DIDN'T need (inb4 Chromie trailer "Don't worry; this is gonna get nerfed" lul). Her rework seems like Jaina's, small things. I have a feeling she's gonna see even more pro play because the change to level 20  18 *cough  broken cough* makes that particular Heroic even more powerful; it's certain death for the selected priority target.

Exactly. Chromie has way more tools for punishing her opponents from afar, with a Low Risk X High Reward compared to Jaina, who has to get into mid-range to land her piano combos. Sure, Jaina can wipe out an entire group with well placed abilities, but she put herself at great risk by doing so, and relies on the frontline more than Chromie, who can just spam the shit out of Sand BlastSand Blast, which now has greater value now with a damage bonus quest as baseline. Chromie also has a powerful control tool with of her Time TrapTime Trap, and a absurd escape mechanism in the form of Bye Bye!Bye Bye!.

      Garden of Terror Classic The original Garden of Terror has returned to Custom Games! The name has been changed to Garden of Terror Classic to differentiate from the current Garden of Terror. Haunted Mines Haunted mines has returned to Quick Match! Map objective is now complete when one team collects 55 Skulls, rather than when all 100 Skulls have been collected. Hero vision is reduced while in the mines. Warhead Junction Cast time for Nuke increased from 2.5 seconds to 3 seconds. Cast time for Nuke now breaks upon taking damage. DoT damage from Nuke increased by 100%. Damage to Forts and Keeps from Nuke increased from 100% to 125%. Return to Top

      Base
      Death Coil [Q] Mana: 40. Cooldown: 9 seconds. Deals 164 damage to target enemy. Can be self-cast to heal for 262 health. Howling Blast [W] Mana: 50. Cooldown: 10 seconds. Root enemies within the target area for 1.25 seconds and deals 68 damage. Frozen Tempest [E] Mana: 13 per second. Cooldown: 1 second. Deals 36 damage per second to nearby enemies and Slow their Movement Speed by 10% per second, stacking up to 40%. Heroes hit also have their Attack Speed Slowed by 10% per second, stacking up to 40%. Frozen Tempest's effects last for 1.5 seconds. Army of the Dead [R] Charge Cooldown: 18 seconds. Consume all charges to summon an equal number of Ghouls that last 15 seconds and attack for 20 damage. Ghouls can be sacrificed to heal Arthas for 240 Health. Stores up to 6 charges. Every time an enemy minion dies nearby, reduce the charge cooldown of this ability by 1 second. Takedowns reduce the charge cooldown of this ability by 6 seconds. Summon Sindragosa [R] Mana: 100. Cooldown: 100 seconds. Deals 230 damage and Slows enemies by 60% for 4 seconds. Also disables Minions, Mercenaries, Monsters, and Structures for 20 seconds. Frostmourne Hungers [D] Cooldown: 12 seconds. Activate to make Arthas' next Basic Attack strike immediately and deal 71 bonus damage. Dealing damage restores 40 Mana. QUEST: Killing a Minion or hitting a Hero with Frostmourne Hungers permanently increases its bonus damage and Arthas' Basic Attack damage by 1. Talents
      Level 1 Frost Presence Increase the area of Howling Blast by 20%. QUEST: Root enemy Heroes with Howling Blast. REWARD: After Rooting 15 Heroes, Howling Blast's range is increased by 20% and it hits enemies in its path. REWARD: After Rooting 30 Heroes, Death Coil Slows Heroes hit by 50% for 0.75 seconds. Borean Winds After Frozen Tempest has been active for 2 seconds, Arthas gains 10% Movement Speed. PASSIVE: Frozen Tempest's Slowing effects last an additional 0.5 seconds and its Mana cost is reduced by 4 per second. Rime Every 5 seconds, gain 75 Physical Armor against the next enemy Hero Basic Attack, reducing the damage taken by 75%. Stores up to 3 charges. PASSIVE: While Arthas is Slowed, Rooted, or Stunned he heals 24 Health a second. Level 4 Shattered Armor Enemy Heroes hit by Howling Blast have their Armor reduced by 15 for 4 seconds. Icy Talons Gain 3% Attack Speed for 2 seconds every time a Hero is damaged by Frozen Tempest, to a maximum of 60%. Frost Strike Frostmourne Hungers deals an additional 115 Ability damage in an area and slows Heroes hit by 20% for 2 seconds. Level 7 Immortal Coil Gain the healing effect of Death Coil even when used on enemies. If Death Coil is used on Arthas, it heals for an additional 75% bonus healing and its cooldown is reduced by 3 seconds. Rune Tap Every 3rd Basic Attack heals Arthas for 5% of his max Health. PASSIVE: Each stack of Frostmourne Hungers increases Arthas' Maximum Health by 10. Icebound Fortitude Cooldown: 35 seconds. Activate to gain 25 Armor and reduce the duration of Stuns, Slows, and Roots against Arthas by 75% for 3 seconds. Each Hero Rooted by Howling Blast reduces the cooldown of this ability by 2 seconds. Level 13 Deathlord If Death Coil is used on an enemy Hero, launch an additional Death Coil at a nearby enemy Hero. PASSIVE: Death Coil deals more damage the lower Arthas' current Health is, to a maximum of 50% bonus damage. Deathchill Howling Blast's damage is increased by 2 for each stack of Frostmourne Hungers. Howling Blast deals 100% additional damage and Roots for an additional 0.25 seconds against Heroes under 50% health. Biting Cold Each second an enemy is damaged by Frozen Tempest, it deals 15% bonus damage, up to 75% bonus damage. Level 16 Remorseless Winter Enemy Heroes that remain within Frozen Tempest for 2.5 seconds are Rooted for 1.25 seconds and heal Arthas for 3% of his maximum Health. This effect has an 8 second cooldown per target. Frostmourne Feeds Reduce the cooldown of Frostmourne Hungers by 6 seconds. Arthas heals for 75% of the Basic Attack damage dealt by Frostmourne Hungers. Anti-Magic Shell Cooldown 60 seconds. Activate to make Arthas immune to Spell Damage for 4 seconds and heal Arthas for 25% of the damage prevented. Level 20 Legion of Northrend Reduce Army of the Dead's charge cooldown by 5 seconds. Each charge consumed spawns an additional Ghoul to attack nearby enemies. These Ghouls cannot be sacrificed. Absolute Zero Sindragosa flies twice as far. Enemy Heroes are Rooted for 2.5 seconds, and then Slowed by 60% for 4 seconds. Death Pact Instantly double your stacks of Frostmourne Hungers, but it no longer gains stacks from hitting Heroes or killing Minions. PASSIVE: Takedowns grant 2 stacks of Frostmourne Hungers. Path of Frost Activate to instantly mount with 10% additional Movement Speed. Taking damage does not dismount Arthas from this mount. Lasts up to 5 seconds. When Arthas dismounts, Slow all nearby enemies by 30% for 2 seconds and deal 66 damage. Chen
