Rapid Fire question

Recommended Posts

I was playing around on my hunter at the targeting dummies and noticed Rapid Fire says it " increases ranged haste by 40% for 15 seconds". I confirmed this on character sheet when I hit it, but I'm confused why the cast time for cobra shot goes from 1.76 sec to 1.26 sec which is only around a  28% increase in speed. 40% would be 1.056 secs. What am I missing?

I'm not entirely sure how the increase in haste works honestly and am wondering the same. My haste is at 16.40% and with rapid fire only it's around 65%, with focus fire or hero/time warp it's about 58%, with rapid fire and one other it's 128%, with hero and focus fire it's 116%, and with all three it hits 208% haste. O.o with all three it should be +100% (40 from rapid fire and 30 from focus fire and hero). But instead it's close to +200%.

Not too sure on this myself tbh. Never looked into it.

In terms of the 28% compared to 40% ... what are you using as the base time, if you are saying1.73 - 1.26 is a 28% difference. I believe it goes from the shots base time to reduce multiplicative effects.

I understand how it works now: the cast time for cobra shot (or anything affected by haste) is [cast time] / [1 + haste %].

So with cobra shot, whose base cast time is 2 sec, it should be: 2 / (1 + (your haste) + haste bonuses)

The haste bonuses is where it gets weird. From what I've observed, haste doesn't stack nicely.

haste effects aren't always additive, they're multiplicative. In other words, the haste bonuses don't "stack" in a traditional sense and some don't stack at all. That's why you shouldn't use frenzy stacks and rapid fire at the same time, they don't stack.

I'm just going to have to get on later today and spend a good 5 to 10 min attacking a dummy to test it.
