I've been playing this build hard since the beginning of the season and I must say I don't think anyone over-reacted to the nerfs of this build. It's conservatively 7 Greater Rift levels behind the condemn build and it's gearing requires way more demanding rolls. it's a really fun build but I would classify it as B tier at this point.

Going to have to disagree with the last part. It's not a B-tier build at all, it's still very capable of 105-110, so it will be ranked as a High Tier build above Blessed Hammers. The change would likely just be a swap of Condemn and this build on the rankings.

What rune do you use on steed charge? I was using draw and quarter but the enemies very often get stuck on some obstacles and I just ran away from them seeing my rubber chain stretching through the map. Switched to endurance and seems better so far, as it boosts mobility. I switch to draw and quarter for group play though, great for taking elites out of the void zones (pools of poison and so on).

As for blessed shield vs condemn I think blessed shield offers more survivability, so you focus on offensive stats and condemn is other way around. Seeing people who run condemn gem all res and people with blessed shield gem strength seems to confirm that.

#25 Holy Shotgun, 105 cleared. Highest shield clear so far is 101. It should be listed 3rd now imo. I don't believe shield has the damage to push even close to 110 without caldesann's that are level'd far past what the crusader is able to kill themselves and at least 1500 paragon points.  I'm not sure what is considered B - Tier but its well below 2 builds in strength and having serious issues pushing past 100 currently. This could be in part because of the crazy rolls required to get the full power but regardless this build just isn't performing as well as people thought it would despite its nerfs.

Just trying to provide helpful information; I appreciate your content :)

For anyone wanting to just have fun w/this build I'm running a slight variant (Condemn -> Phalanx) of the Speedfarming build in the mid GR80s consistently in the 7min range. I'm not sure I could push it to the 90s w/o some serious gear upgrades though (not yet all epics and only one Caldesan's so far).

I made the same switch as well since D&Q was just too inconsistent - or at least my attempts at using it were.

I'm using this build for solo play and loving it, but sometimes i play with a friend of mine and i cant use Unity in the cube, so is there a replacement? i already have CoE equipped, so no need for it cubbed.

Could you post what all skills/runes you're using?  I've got all the pieces for the build but trying to fine tune it. :)

I believe D&Q is used specifically for keeping a decent rhythm through the rift by ensuring you aren't stuck killing small packs for too long, instead letting you group up rares/boss packs. At lower GRs where you can kill them quickly, it's no issue to swap it out, but you'll need to stack mobs at later GRs.

Can run Stone of Jordan or Justice Lantern, depending on damage or survivability.

So, we've moved this down to "High Tier" from the Top, with Condemn now taking the top spot. Deadset is looking at other ways to organise things and decide how to rank the builds, so we'll go from there with ranking within the "high" tier.

Check the condemn build for consistency as there are errors, e.g. it recommends illusory boots, but on gear page the stats are for akkhan boots.

I realize this post was written more than a month ago, but to give some context on the current state of affairs:

While I agree that the nerf to BS wasn't necessary (although BS would probably be the top build if the nerf hadn't happened), I think BS is mostly suffering from being underplayed right now, as well as being unjustifiably shunned due to the nerf. I'm currently #25 NA HCS with Blessed Shield at GR105 14:46, and I haven't been playing all that seriously (this is my first season pushing, I don't use a maphack, I have ~1370 para, Caldesann's level ~100, and the 105 was done in a rift with mediocre maps, mediocre enemies including a bunch of ranged enemies, and a terrible rift guardian--Blighter--which added 1-2 minutes alone to the run in comparison to someone like Saxtris or The Binder, vs the top Condemn runs in the 110-113 range largely being done by people with 2000+ para, level 100-120 Caldesann's etc). Someone on reddit claimed a GR109 clear SCS Asia, but he had a higher Condemn run so it can't be verified. My run is the #1 non-Condemn HCS run on NA by a considerable margin (last I checked the top competitor was Blessed Hammer at GR101, but the situation might've changed since) and I believe the #1 worldwide. I suspect if more (and better) players were playing BS we'd see at the bare minimum a GR110 clear in HCS and at least a few GRs higher in SCS.

I can consistently clear GR100 with no fishing required and fairly lazy play in hardcore, so "serious issues pushing past GR100" is a significant exaggeration.

While at this point I doubt that the people who were guessing this build might overtake Condemn by the end of the season when people get perfect gear are correct, I still think it's the #2 build-to-beat by a comfortable margin, especially in hardcore where its survivability is so much better than many of the alternatives.

Hi everyone,

I'm using this build with some variations:

1. Legend Gems: Esoteric Alteration (Instead of Gogok)

2. 2nd Ring: Ring of Royal Grandeur

3. Kanai Armor: Leoric's Crown

4. Body: Aquila Cuirass

5. Belt: String of Ears

This build make 100%-uptime of Akarat's Champion easier to achieve (Flawless Royal Diamond in Helm x 2 = 25%), your hero tougher (with non-physical damage reduction from Esoteric rather than Dodge Change from Gogok), and equal to Unity with Aquila Cuirass (you can choose better ring for your follower).

I can push to GR85 Solo with 1000+ Paragon Points, Level 60+ Gems and no Caldesann-Augmented Ancient Item with this variation.

How do you think about that?

How do you think about that?

The setup isn't going to do as well as the posted one. You lose:

  • 22.5% Dodge Chance (Gogok level 100).
  • 50% Damage Reduction (Unity)
  • 15% Attack Speed (Gogok)
  • 15% Cooldown Reduction (Gogok)
  • 7% Attack Speed (Witching Hour)
  • 50% Critical Hit Damage (Witching Hour)
  • 15% Elite Damage (Unity)

You gain:

  • 60% DR against elemental (Esoteric level 100)
  • Roughly 40% DR while at low HP (Esoteric).
  • 30% DR against Melee (String of Ears)
  • +15% life (String of Ears optimal affix)
  • +130 Resist All (String of Ears optimal affix)
  • One extra ring affix (CoE or RoRG)
  • An extra follower ring.

All-in-all you probably come out with barely more, or possibly break even, survivability (something this build has no lack of) in exchange for far less damage. The extra follower ring doesn't really matter since the only follower equipment that significantly affects your run is Unity/Oculus Ring (and of course the invulnerability talisman). You also lose Cooldown Reduction 99% of the time in exchange for not having to ramp it back up occasionally if Gogok drops. But at the end of the day if you want to push past 100ish you need to stack every source of damage you can, and you just can't afford to ditch so many easy damage sources.

Hello,

I've read a lot of threads and guides. This guide and thread have been very helpful. So, thank you. I'm thinking of running BS next season (14). I would appreciate any feedback on my choices for the build: https://www.diablofans.com/builds/98780-blessed-shield-2-6-1. I am on the fence about the LOH choices and losing 1x 15% BS Damage on the gear. However, I believe I've added more AD and a damage range roll on a ring. Again, any feedback is appreciated.

Why are you replacing Holy Cause with Long Arm of the Law? You can keep Holy Cause, drop LoH on helm, take BS damage again - then rather than having the extra duration of Law, you can just use that time to kite instead. I don't think you're going to spend 10 seconds standing still attacking without re-positioning, kiting, stacking etc.

Thanks for the input Blainie. I was using the BS fire rune. That's why I've omitted Holy Cause. I have been going back and forth on the rune choice mainly because of healing from Holy Cause. What are your thoughts on the build with the use of the BS fire rune?

Your build, as far as I can see, makes these changes:

  • No consecration, so no LPS: -Toughness
  • Blind with damage rune: +Damage
  • No Steel Skin on IS: -Toughness, in return you have a bit of QoL increase with movement through mobs.

I think Cons vs. Blind is a completely fair change and one that could really work well on physical maps (less so on very heavy ranged maps or ones with lots of elites with bad affixes). The lack of Steel Skin is probably hurting a fair amount here. IMO, if you were to make a change that would probably balance the build more, I would run the %BS again on helm, drop your LPH, take Steel Skin again.

You're gaining damage, replacing the toughness with more Iron Skin, losing a bit of QoL that, in the long term, can be combated with kiting through the use of Steed.

Hey again.

What are your thoughts on using a grouping skill like vacuum or mass verdict instead of shield glare/consecration? Is Mass Verdict still bugged?

Which passive can I skip in favor of Indestructible since I'm playing on hardcore? Or are the Cuirass and Compass Rose and Prophet enough safety?

Although Akarat's ChampionAkarat's ChampionProphetProphet should be enough, adding IndestructibleIndestructible (in place of Holy CauseHoly Cause) allows you to juggle between these two effects, effectivelly allowing you to stay in the fight even after the first one goes off. Adding Indestructible depends on whether you feel like you need the one extra life, or the higher damage and more healing.

Cheat death passives are mandatory in hardcore in all circumstances, including farming. You should drop Holy Cause, but if you're playing with a Holy damage build you can also drop Towering Shield if you feel like you need the extra healing. The difference in damage between the two is relatively small.

Blizzard has extended Patch 2.6.10 testing on the PTR and there are also some item changes, seasonal updates, and bug fixes in the latest PTR update.
      (Source)
Update on October 21: A new PTR patch has been implemented and PTR playtesting has been extended to October 27. Item changes, seasonal updates, and bug fix details have now been updated. Update on October 14: We are extending PTR for an unspecified amount of time to troubleshoot latency and login issues. At this time you may notice the Seasonal Theme content being enabled and disabled at certain points of the test.
Update on October 8: 2.6.10 PTR has been updated. Please see below for changes with "Developer's Note" annotations in RED.
Our two-week PTR testing period for the 2.6.10 update begins October 1 and we're asking for your help to quell the tides of surging demons. Take a look at the preliminary patch notes below and start theorycrafting how you'll make the most of the brand-new season content, a new item, and tons of Legendary item changes; Patch 2.6.10 will be arriving soon.

      PTR Focus & Details
We’ll be conducting the Patch 2.6.10 PTR, and phasing in content updates over the course of two weeks, starting Thursday, October 1. During this time there may be periodic maintenances, outages, hotfixes, or minor patches. This time around, testing will consist of two phases:
Phase 1 - October 1: During this phase, we will be introducing Legendary and Set item changes Phase 2 – October 8: In this phase, we will be adding the Seasonal Theme content NOTE: Phase 1 content will persist throughout the entirety of the PTR. Phase 2 content will be an addition to the existing content.
There will be two PTR-unique buffs active to help you on your journey: increased Legendary drop rate and double Blood Shard drops. You can also buy new gear for testing from the special PTR vendor, Djank Mi'em, who will exchange Blood Shards for class-specific bags full of Legendary items that we'd love for you to test!

      PTR Testing Tips
As with our previous PTRs, this testing period is short, so it's best to hit the ground running. Whether you’re a PTR veteran or newcomer, we thought we’d pass along a few tips to get you started.
Because of the limited duration of this PTR, we ask that participants pick a particular portion of this update to focus on testing. For example, if you’re primarily a Wizard player, consider what changes impact the Wizard specifically. What you like best, what you think may still need adjustment, and what you’d want to see in the future (even if that may be beyond the scope of this patch) are all good questions to ask yourself. Prior to the start of PTR, consider stocking up on items like Puzzle Rings and Bovine Bardiches. Having these available after you import your character can make any necessary PTR farming much faster! Try to break things! Just tell us when you do so we can make sure that the patch launch is as smooth as possible. When providing feedback, focus less on a solution and more on your experience. How did the changes make you feel? Was there something “off” that you noticed? Did something seem wrong or insufficient? Suggestions are always welcome but identifying the issues themselves is most important. Return to Top

Developer's Note: We appreciate and gathered feedback regarding the initial list of skills from the clones. We have decided to remove all hard crowd control effects from all kits and balanced each of the build variants to not have a potential buff that is more beneficial than the other 2 in the same class.

      Items
      General
Haedrig’s Gifts now grants all class sets and we have a new rotation schedule. This upcoming season, depending on which class you choose, Haedrig’s Gifts will reward you with Horde of the Ninety Savages, Aegis of Valor, Gears of Dreadlands, Patterns of Justice, Masquerade of the Burning Carnival, Mundunugu’s Regalia, or Typhon’s Veil. Stone Gauntlets now drops for all classes. Paragon Bonus Gold Find has been changed to Gold Pickup Radius at 0.1 per point. Item Changes
New Item* Gelmindor’s Marrow Guards: Bone Spear cast from Simulacrums deal 400-500% 300-400% increased damage. Developer's Note: We see how strong this is performing. We would like to tweak it back a little for now.
Ivory Tower: Rapid multiple blocks will now scale the damage for Fires of Heaven, up to a maximum of 2.5 times damage. Mantle of Channeling: Removed the 1 second start up before the power takes effect. The Twisted Sword: The Twisted Sword: Energy Twister damage is increased by 125-150% for each Energy Twister you have out up to a maximum of 5. The Raging Storm rune is automatically applied to Energy Twister and allows the tornado to merge with 3 additional Energy Twisters. Unfortunately, this item is not available with PTR vendor, Djank Mi'em. Developer's Note: We want to address the lag situation of multiple Energy Twisters doing AoE by allowing them to combine up to 5 while dealing with their combined damage. We will monitor the situation and see if this is the correct approach.
Etched Sigil: While channeling Arcane Torrent, Disintegrate, or Ray of Frost, the damage of your Energy Twister is increased by 200-250%, and you also cast Energy Twister every second. Fragment of Destiny: Your Signature Spells attack 50% faster and deal triple damage. You gain a Spectral buff whenever you land an attack with a Signature Spell. Hydras deal 25-30% increased damage for each Spectral stack. Max 10 stacks. Valthek's Rebuke: Energy Twister now travels in a straight path and deals 300-400% increased damage. Winter Flurry: Enemies killed by Cold damage have a 25% chance to release a Frost Nova. Your Hydra deals 125-150% increased damage to enemies in a Blizzard. Wizardspike: Performing an attack has a 25% chance to hurl a Frozen Orb. Arcane Orb deals 300-350% increased damage. Delsere's Magnum Opus: 6 piece bonus increased from 8500% to 12500%. The Typhon's Veil: 6 piece bonus increased from 1300% to 2000%. Norvald's Fervor: Buff 2 piece bonus damage from 100% to 400% Armor of Akkhan: Buff 6 piece bonus damage from 1500% to 2000% Roland's Legacy: Buff 4 piece bonus damage from 13,000% to 17,500% Seeker of the Light: Buff 6 piece Blessed Hammer bonus damage from 12,000% to 15,000% Belt of the Trove: Every 4 seconds, call down Bombardment on a random nearby enemy. Bombardment deals 400-500% increased damage. Mortal Drama: Double the number of Bombardment impacts. Bombardement deals 400-500% increased damage. Thorns of The Invoker: 2-Piece bonus decreased from 350% to 90% and has a cap of 10 stacks. 6-piece bonus increased from 15,000% to 67,500% and increased attack speed bonus from 50% to 100%. Developer's Note: This is to address the Bombardment build that Crusaders have been tearing across the board. We've severely nerfed the 2-piece and compensated in the 6-piece. We also thought about extending the duration of the buff past 2 seconds, but we rather change a couple of things first rather than too many things to see how things play out.
Manajuma's Way: Angry Chicken explosion damage increased from 400% to 2000%. Manajuma's Way now includes a third legendary affix, which allows angry chicken to spawn a chicken that seeks enemies every second that deals 25% of the angry chicken's explosion damage.  Developer's Note: This build wasn't clearing T16 as fast as we want, so we wanted to give it more juice in an interesting way
New Item* Ursua's Trodden Effigy: New Witch Doctor Legendary mojo buffing Zombie Charger 100-150%, and spawning more Zombie Bears. Unfortunately, this item is not available with PTR vendor, Djank Mi'em. Developer's Note: More, Bears
Spirit of Arachyr: Buff 6 piece bonus damage from 9000% to 17,500%. Helltooth Harness: Buff 6 piece bonus damage from 9000% to 17,500%. Scrimshaw: Reduces the Mana cost of Zombie Charger by 75% and increases its damage by 6-7 times. Inna's Mantra: Buff 6 piece bonus damage from 750% to 950%. Shenlong's Spirit: Damage bonus increased from 200% to 350%. Uliana's Strategem Set: Now has 77% damage reduction for 7 seconds after applying Exploding Palm. Developer's Note: This set needed damage reduction much more than a damage boost, so we'll see where this takes it.
Gungdo Gear: Exploding Palm's on-death explosion applies Exploding Palm. Exploding Palm's damage is increased by 75-100%. Blade of the Tribes: War Cry and Threatening Shout cause an Avalanche and Earthquake. Avalanche and Earthquake both deal 150-200% increased damage. Consolidated Blade of the Tribes Earthquake affix into the new legendary affix so that it's no longer two affixes that buff Earthquake.
Developer's Note: This item had a standard affix that boosted earthquake by up to 200%, along with a legendary affix that boosted Avalanche and Earthquake. We've combined those two which means also buffing Avalanche at the same time.

      Bug Fixes
Fixed an issue with PC Win32 (32-bit) and macOS clients crashing. Please share any issues on our PTR Bug Report section Fixed Wizardspike to more properly proc Frozen Orb. Simulacrums casting Grim Scythe with Haunted Visions no longer gain double benefit from Trag’Ouls Corroded Fang (currently bugged on the PTR) Blessed Hammer will now destroy itself after hitting 63 targets. Reduced the tick rate of Energy Twister by half and doubled its damage. (currently looking into improving this) Reverted Energy Twister's tick rate and damage back to normal which is 0.5 seconds per tick. Fixed legacy items stacking with the new items from this PTR: Gundo Gear, Blade of the Tribes, Scrimshaw, Belt of the Trove, Mortal Drama, Winter Flurry, Wizardspike, Etched Sigil, and Fragment of Destiny Fixed Necromancer's pets doing extra damage to cursed enemies from a bug caused by the original fix for Haunted Visions + Trag'Ouls Corroded Fang. How to Participate
To participate in the public test, you must have a Diablo III game license attached to a Battle.net account in good standing (i.e. one that hasn't been suspended or banned). In addition, you will also need to download and install the Blizzard Battle.net desktop app if you have not already done so.
Step 1: Restart the Battle.net desktop app.
Step 2: Navigate to the Diablo III tab on the left-hand menu.
Step 3: On the Diablo III screen, there is a drop-down menu right above the "Play" button (note that this may say "Install" if you do not have Diablo III currently installed). Select "PTR: Diablo III" from this drop-down menu before proceeding.
Step 4: Click Install to begin the installation process.
Your PTR account will be created automatically if you do not already have one. The PTR is available in all supported languages, and accounts from all regions are eligible to participate. For additional assistance with installing and launching the PTR, click here.

      PTR Character Copy
The option to copy your existing Diablo III characters from your live account to the PTR will be available and can be done directly through the PTR client. However, only one region per account can be copied at a time. So, if you choose to copy characters from your account in a different region, any previously copied PTR characters will be lost.
Step 1: Log into the live game and then log out.
Step 2: Log into PTR client and create a level 1 character. After you're done, return to the main character screen.
Step 3: Click on the "PTR Copy" button located in the upper right-hand corner. (The PTR Copy button will not appear in-game until you have created a new level 1 character.)
      Step 4: Select your region.
Step 5: Click "Copy." This will copy all characters on your account from the selected region.
Step 6: You will be disconnected from the PTR client.
Step 7: Log back in. Your copied characters will be available for play.
Please note that you can only copy characters from one gameplay region at a time. If you choose to copy characters from a different region, any previously copied PTR characters will be lost. In addition, you can only copy characters over to your PTR account once every 24 hours. Attempting to copy characters before this cooldown is up will result in an error.

As this is a test server, please anticipate uneven game performance, and note that restarts and downtime may occur without warning. Thank you, and we look forward to your feedback!

It seems Season 22 is a little farther off than expected, as the PTR has been extended for an unspecified amount of time! There are more server-side issues than Blizzard expected, and they're now asking for additional help with testing:
      PTR (source)
      Hi all -
We wanted to provide a quick update regarding PTR for 2.6.10.
As some have experienced, we are seeing reports of some latency and login issues with the current update with PTR. Due to these items, we are planning on extending PTR for an unspecificed amount of time while we continue to troubleshoot the issues behind the scenes.
During this time, we are asking for help! We would love for people to jump in and play the game as you would on PTR.
As you are doing this, we will be doing some things that will be changing up the game as we troubleshoot some items on the backend.
Starting later today, we will be turning off the Shadow Clones seasonal theme. This feature will be turned back on sometime tomorrow. Starting tomorrow (and after we turn back on Shadow Clones), we will be turning off the fourth slot in Kanai’s Cube. This feature will be turned back after a short period of testing with this disabled. There may be some additional testing that will occur after these two phases, but we will update the thread regarding any additional items or adjustments to these testing periods. Please continue to provide feedback or report any issues you encounter through the PTR as we will be paying close attention to these on our end.
Thanks again for all the help during this PTR testing phase!
