World of Warcraft Vanilla Servers Announced

Recommended Posts

qvR4bq2.jpg

Blizzard just announced their plans to launch a classic World of Warcraft Vanilla server.

After shutting down Nostalrius, Blizzard has decided to work on a Vanilla server. The development will be complicated, because the game works on a totally different technology right now. Tell us your thoughts in the comments! Will you be playing on a Classic server to experience the good old nostalgia?

Good for them, hope they enjoy it and finally stop complaining about everything on live.

If it's going to be anything like RuneScape 3 and Old School RuneScape, the complaints will only grow in size.

Sad but true, people can't just be happy with what they're given I suppose >_>

I started my experience of WoW at private servers but got bored of bugs and went official. Stopped playing year ago cuz didn't have time for other games and didn't like this. If I would return to WoW then definitely for official servers not private

I never got to play Vanilla, TBC, or the first 3/4 of Lich King, so I am very much looking forward to it. I just hope they don't screw it up. They should only bring in the necessary quality of life improvements, like the additional graveyards, if any.

Well, if they brought the additional graveyards then it wouldn't be the authentic Vanilla experience, so I doubt they will.

Yeah, just like in SC Remaster. They probably won't change anything of gameplay

I am good with that, but they did make reference to small changes, so could be anything. Just hoping they are insignificant to original game experience if they do anything.

Fair enough, I have no real interest in it to be completely honest

They will not. It's a free gold mine them with not so much work.

Btw I really don't care Vanilla. I like to looking forward not backward and want a new content not an old. I really can't understand some people why so hard miss that.. it was not so good.

Currently when I get bored with end game content I level current alts or roll a new one. I'm at 49 slots taken now...with some being used as nameholders...so this will provide another avenue of play for me.

I loved classic and am looking forward to playing through the old quests that were removed in Cataclysm. Also aware of the "uglier" side of classic and I'm sure the graphics will be a jolt to the eyes.

So not something I'll be spending a ton of time in but will be playing it.

I would assume they'll keep it like that, yeah. As long as they don't buckle and let people from the community complain and create Vanilla 2.0, with what they think are good changes etc., it'll be fine.

It would. The cries for X and Y to be implemented are happening all of the forums and Reddit and it's not even in proper development yet. Fingers crossed they don't listen.

Carbot has been a very reliable source of some truly very funny videos on pretty much everything Blizzard-related, with his unique style and a clear reverence and knowledge of the content parodied. He even made Blizzard a 30th anniversary video for this year's BlizzConline!

Well, today we have a very different video on our hands, as he tries to show the evolution of WoW throughout the ages, at least from his perspective. It's... a painful one to watch, and in my opinion a little too pessimistic, but you can't deny the talent at play here as it will almost certainly tug at your heartstrings:
While there definitely have been many changes to WoW over the years, and even the ones depicted towards the end of the video aren't that far from the truth, the nostalgic and pretty emotional feelings I get from the video are more about the players leaving, which I would argue is more a factor of, well, time. As old-school, original players (or ones from any period in the game really) change, grow and evolve, it's natural they will move away from the game and come back for shorter stints and so on, which isn't necessarily a factor of the game's state, and so I can't really agree with the ending section there (although I'm not exactly a fan of what's been happening with the monetization aspects either). The fanbase definitely isn't exactly at its most fan-like at the moment, but hopefully that can change, and we can stem the tide of toxicity that's been pretty heavily pushing in on WoW on all fronts.
As for Carbot's video specifically, while I may not agree with the general message, this departure from his normal videos really is a great one, and you have to respect when funny, cartoony figures can pack such a major emotional punch, as regardless of how you may feel about WoW, you will most likely have felt something watching that video.
The video also created a very large redit thread, with players expressing their reaction to it, which you can check out here.

We're looking at Gravewing mounts that become available in Patch 9.1.
Mastercraft Gravewing can be obtained through a quest item that drops from Stygian Stonecrusher, a Rare Elite located in Korthia.

Obsidian Gravewing is sold to members of the Venthyr Covenant by Chachi the Artiste in Revendreth for 7,500 Reservoir Anima.
"In the darkened skies of Revendreth, you cannot see these creatures coming until it is too late."

Pale Gravewing becomes purchasable from the Death's Advance Quartermaster for 1,000 Stygia after you earn the On the Offensive achievement.
"Gravewings know no fear and are nearly indestructible -- perfect for an assault on the Maw."

Sinfall Gravewing is the Venthyr Covenant mount that you will get upon unlocking flying in Chains of Domination.
"With anima once again flowing in Sinfall, the Stonewright has been able to infuse these Stoneborn, making them valuable allies in the battles to come."

A preview of the official Patch 9.1 key art.
The 9.1 key art has been revealed. In the foreground, we see Anduin holding his Mourneblade. The Jailer's shadow is right behind him and chains are descending from Torghast. In the background, there are multiple forsworn in the sky. Chains of Domination is as the name implies all about the Jailer's control over Anduin, who is used as a weapon against us.
Lich King Anduin looks just like Arthas.

It seems Blizzard forgot to remove some ability trainers from the game when they added auto-spell learning, giving players access to some class abilities early.
Reddit user Raggnarite found one ability trainer in Gilneas on their Mage character. The character could learn Polymorph early, even though under normal circumstances, the spell is learned at Level 10. Other spells are likely affected too.

In the past, visiting Class Trainers to learn new abilities was mandatory, but now, the whole process is automated, and new abilities appear directly in your Spellbook when you reach a certain level.
