Need help with brewmaster tank

Hi! I am running through antorus right now, and I'm trying to push heroic with my guild now. We just downed the hounds, and we won't be raiding again until next weekend. I was wondering if I can get some help with learning what I'm doing wrong with my monk, I'm a brewmaster tank, and I seem to be taking almost twice the damage of the other tank in the raid, the prot pally. What am I doing wrong? what can I fix?

So, it looks like you're doing pretty good with brews/stash juggle. Your legendary choices are pretty questionable though (Chest/shoulders is what I prefer - or chest/wrist for suitability). Your trinkets are pretty garbo as well - Agility, Agility, Agility - if it doesn't have Agility on it it's not worth using for monks (for survivablity and dps).

 

Looking at logs you don't seem to purge stagger correctly - I do it as a feeling but usually 75% cap or so, or if I 'feel' the stagger. Also your build is a bit wonky - Also believe it's 14.4 for max haste. 

Chi Torpedo (extra movement quick helps)

Black Ox Brew - Once you're good at maintaining up time correctly, purging off incoming damage (or purging off a large hit) is what makes monks broken. Black Ox Brew allows for this.

Rushing Jade Wind > special delivery: Fits better with the rotation, more dps then special delivery, and ironskin brew  has a max length of 25 seconds, so constantly spamming it is very bad. 

Blackout Combo - High Tolerance: Getting rocked, swap to High tolerance, it helps quite a lot. 

Now on paper you take 'more damage' then this guy, mostly because you're not tracking/purifying access stagger correctly. I had 24 expels to your 38. You are 'smoother' then him, as he spikes like a fucking mad man. Your flat damage taken though is nearly double then me for all aspects - So build, get a higher ilvl, and get better trinkets (I'm just using artus trinkets these days - eye and tanking one from Argus, sometimes swapping to the leg if I need a shield). 

But the main reason for the extra dmg is capping stagger at key times - cap stagger you're taking unmitigated dmg.

Moved this over to the Monk forum, since it's a Monk-specific topic. Missed it since it was in PvE, but adding to above:

• For such a constant fight as Felhounds, your cast amounts are pretty low. You're filling with Tiger Palm far too often. You're missing out:
  • ~10-15 Keg casts
  • ~20-30 Blackout Strike casts
  • ~5-6 Breath of Fire casts
  • ~2 Exploding Keg casts
• Above problem is likely caused by you being far too cautious with your energy usage, especially in the first quarter of the fight. You spend a full 2 minutes with an average Energy of ~75. 

Probably a bit late, but good luck with improving!
