Someone is an idiot and doesn't know how mages work..  Pyroblast is suppose to be your top damage spell.  Go look at any logs of high parsing mages..

My logs with my guild:

Nazgrim25H

http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-4hk16dgz98f8tskd/details/18/?s=4519&e=4993

Malkorok 25N

http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-4hk16dgz98f8tskd/details/18/?s=9039&e=9228

you can keep look through the rest too.. + there's another mage in my guild that plays fire and has about the same stuff

Its possible they remember stuff from cataclysm when in logs the procs and the hard casts use to be seperate (Pyroblast vs Pyroblast!).  But thats not the case any more.

well recount was tellling that pyroblast was my top cast, not pyroblast! ..

which is confusing me aswell.

another player told me, a mage with ilvl 553 should play arcane until ilvl 570, then fire mage again.

what do you think, should i stick to fire mage (i actually love that skill) or shoulld i temporarily use arcane?

I'm not a mage expert, so dont take my word for it, maybe someone else can back me up, but you have more than enough crit to do just fine in fire.

Pyroblast! would be the direct damage portion if it shows in recount while Pyroblast may just be the DoT ticks.  IMO fire is a much better spec than arcane and people have been saying "OH YOU NEED {X} GEAR LEVEL BEFORE FIRE IS VIABLE" since the first tier. (when in reality they are just saying that because they are shit at fire, or don't enjoy fire, and want an excuse to not play it) The rule of thumb from the little I know of fire is the more crit you have the better (until about 50%~ or so) then you want a ton of haste (maybe 13k more more) then some mastery.

Stick with Fire.  IMO its the most fun spec even at lower gear levels and you defiantly have more than enough gear and crit to make it work.  If anything you're going to want more haste at this point without sacrificing crit.

Also, i think a big thing I've seen is mages dropping any hit piece they have for more crit/haste and getting their hit from Expertise/crit gems instead of int/crit.

I've also been told that the fire stat weights on Mr. robot are decent enough to use if you care to compare the stat gain it gives you compared to the intellect loss.

thanks for your help :)

now i feel better.

i should use hit/exp gems and drop items with hit stats? or you trying to say that that is the wrong way to do?

i have 18% haste. trying to push it. 45% crit shud be enough??

But yes, if you gem expertise/crit instead of int crit you can drop your hit pieces for more crit/haste

I have to repeat what Krazytio said. Someone is a complete idiot and has no idea how mages work. Please, send this person to me and make him explain what he thinks how fire mages work... I'm pretty sure they always look things up at noxxic.. xD Which is btw I just checked completely out of date.

The reason why Pyroblast became your no1 damage source is due to the 5.4 nerf of Combustion and your new gear. Your crit rating with SOO crit items can go ridiculously high that resulted in insane Combustions on PTR. Blizz chose to reduce Combustion's damage instead of reducing our pyromanac crit multiplier.(which the used to do in the past)

The 200k DPS is okay, average. Could be higher tho. If you could post a combatlog about that fight I'd gladly have a look at it and look for improvements.

Nowadays, there is no difference between the spellname of hardcast and instant pyroblast. Pyroblast! is the name of the buff you get for instant cast. Pyroblast is the name of the damaging ability. The dot and the direct hit are calculated under the same name.

The another player who talked about arcane and stuff was partly right. Arcane will shine bright on Sha of pride-like fights with no movement and will most likely beat fire on those. However.. Please, put an arcane mage into Immerseus heroic and tell him to do more dps, than a fire mage with constant movement.... Both specs have their strength and weaknesses. but no one can expect anyone in non-high-end raiding guild to switch specs, gear from encounter to encounter. I hate wannabes... Jsut stick to the spec that you enjoy playing and concentrate on maximizing your playstyle with that.

Note that with gemming, it is not always the most optimal to drop every item with hit and just gem stuff. However AMR is a good place to look for optimization. :)

Also, please read our Fire mage class guide through again and see if you were missing something important. :)

      Who are we?
Volatile are a group of mostly ex-mythic raiders, looking to get back into mythic raiding. We cleared through Nighthold heroic a number of months ago and need some more people in order to jump into mythic. Besides raiding our friendly bunch of members enjoy running mythic+ on daily basis, helping out with world quests among other things. Our discord is usually filled with members for daily banter and weekly fun. If you enjoy all that, you most certainly will enjoy your stay in Volatile.
      Who are we looking for?
We're primarily looking for ranged DPS to fill out the roster. At this time we are full on tanks and healers.
      Tanks - Closed
      Healers - Closed
Ranged DPS - MM Hunter, Warlock and Shadow Priest but all classes will be considered
      Melee DPS - Closed
Overall we're looking for people with a good knowledge of their class/spec who know how to improve their gameplay. Being fairly thick skinned and being able to accept constructive criticism, as well as the occasional jab from some of our more 'outspoken' members, is a big plus too.
      When do we raid?
We raid two times a week as standard, we often have an additional raid day if necessary. See raid times below.
      Thursday: 8pm - 11pm (Server time)
      Monday: 8pm - 11pm (Server time)
      Tuesday: 8pm - 11pm (Additional day)
      Application process:
We believe the best way to get to know if someone is right for the guild is just to have a chat, rather than go through a long application process. So we'll have a chat, look at logs and possibly run some M+ to get to know each other. If you're interested in joining our mythic raid team, contact any of the following:
      Contact us:
      GM:
      Xadel#2609, Xadel (ingame)
      Council:
      Òops#2597, Drainphase (ingame)
      Passive#2900, Malenky (ingame)
      Ohajay#2606, Draconem (ingame)
      Hjp#21650, Phynn (ingame)

All applications will be reviewed and considered however if you are playing a class/spec combination we need then your chances of joining will be higher.
A little bit of info about us:
We are a group of friends and serious raiders on EU Twisting Nether looking to recruit skilled like-minded players into our roster for Mythic Legion raids and onwards. We will offer a sociable and fun raiding environment while maintaining a strong desire for progression. Our Discord is very active and we encourage all members to chat and play together not only for raids. The guild formed late March 2016 and fully cleared 13/13 Mythic Hellfire Citadel pre nerf shortly after. We've since been improving our world ranking every tier.
We currently raid 3 days per week on Mythic: Wednesday, Sunday and Tuesday 19:15-22:15 server time. While it is not a lot we try to make the most out of our time. We run optional heroic/normal/alt/previous tier raids during off days in which raiders are welcome to come to. Our members also play other games outside raid times together where anyone is welcome to join(LoL, Dota, HotS, Overwatch etc.).
Our loot system for Mythic is RC Loot Council.
      What we expect from you:
      - We are a raiding guild with only a 9 hour per week schedule so you are expected to attend and be ON TIME! However we understand things can come up sometimes but please let us know.
      - Be able to speak and understand the English language and not be afraid to communicate with other members during raids.
      - Actively doing dungeons/world quests to improve your gear and artifact weapon.
      - Have a strong understanding of the current raid tier and be able to play your class to it's potential.
      - Always come to raids prepared(i.e. bringing food and potions, etc).
      - Come fully gemmed and enchanted with the correct stats for your class and spec.
      - Access to Discord and a working microphone.
      - Have a computer that can handle 20 man raiding and a good, stable internet connection.
      - Exorsus Raid Tools, Weakauras2 and RC Loot Council addons installed. We may ask you to install others.

If you have any further questions please contact us at battletags: Vims#21684 Azkey#21565
To apply please visit our guild website: http://asylum-tn.enjin.com/recruitment

Hello. This is my first time posting here. I'd like to ask for yer advice on what should I aim to do with my Fire mage, and how do I enhance my performance with it, specially on single target dps.
I believe my problem are my current secondary stats/equipment, my legendary choices and my trinkets, in that order of priority. I'd love to hear your input on any or all of these aspects and see how could I improve.
      1) My current stats are 38% crit (turns into 53% base), 20% haste, and 12% mastery. From what I understand, Mastery should be over Haste. I also have a 2-set from Nighthold (I also have the gear for a 4-set but I think the 4-set bonus isn't worth the enormous loss on ilvl). Is this reasoning correct to you? What do you think I should aim to get next to better improve my toon? I do already have a Back piece that would take my 2-set bonus away but is a 15% upgrade (Pawn), 20 ilvls above the current back.
      2) I've got 6 legendaries: Belo'vir's Last Stand (Chest), Marquee Bindings of the Sun King (Wrists), Pyrotex Ignition Cloth (Hands), Norgannon's Foresight (Feet), Sephuz's Secret (Ring) and Kil'jaeden's Burning Wish (Trinket). I usually use the gloves and ring for AoE situations, and gloves and trinket for single target. My most recent legendary are the wrists, and I have to assume it'll drastically improve my single target dps, but I actually see my numbers go down rather than up, at least when practicing with dummy targets.
These is my "replacement" gear for each part as of now, if it helps:
      Chest - 875 Vers/Mast NH set or 910 Vers/Crit
      Wrists - 905 Crit/Vers
      Hands - 890 Crit/Haste
      Feet - 890 Mast/Haste
      Ring - 900 Vers/Mast
Trinket - 895 Star Gate, 895 Deteriorated Construct Core, 890 Icon of Rot, 885 Whispers in the Dark.
      3) My main trinkets are made for AoE, having Whispers of the Dark for a potential increase in single target dps, and legendary trinket. What other trinkets should I strive to get for better performance there? Any suggestions?

Sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read and help me. I'll truly appreciate any advice.
