Legion Artifact Retirement Questline in Patch 8.0

Recommended Posts

zo9pVyv.jpg

8.0 PTR servers have been updated with the Legion Artifact retirement questline. Artifact traits will no longer function when the pre-patch goes live and here's a preview of the questline. This article contains spoilers.

The cutscene is still missing voiceovers and it's only available to Alliance players on PTR.

The Speaker's Call

I been travelin' the land, seekin' out anyone who might know how ta heal Azeroth. I've consulted ancient sages, druids, shamans... from dragons ta titan keepers. Nobody's seen anythin' like this before.

Went ta Karazhan ta speak with Khadgar. Studyin' those old tomes o' his, we came up with an idea. No tellin' if it's gonna work, but we gotta try. Come ta Silithus. Meet me at the wound. Time is runnin' out fer Azeroth, <Name>.

The Power in Our Hands

That sword of Sargeras is surgin' with dark energies. They're seepin' into Azeroth's heart like poison. The blade's power must be snuffed out. The Pillars o' Creation could do it, but they're keepin' the tomb sealed. So we need other vessels capable o' harnessin' vast energies. Vessels like those artifact weapons you and the other champions wield. It's a risk, <Name>. We don't know what Sargeras' power will do ta those weapons. But unless we act now, the heart of Azeroth is sure ta die.

A cinematic plays, where you and the other champions sacrifice your Artifacts to draw the surging energies from the sword.

The sword grows dark! I can hear Azeroth's sufferin' abate... If only a little. Ye did good, hero. Bought our world some time. But we must find a way ta fully heal this wound. No matter what happens between the Alliance and Horde, do not forget yer duty on Azeroth!

Wait, does this means artifacts will be retired before BfA drops? When is it, exactly? How are they planning for us to get other high ilvl gear if no weapons drop on the Broken Isles?

They are disabled on 8.0 PTR and player power will be boosted proportionally to account for that. It's a mess right now on PTR. You kill a level 110 mob in 30 seconds, so they haven't done anything just yet. Playing an Enhancement Shaman, maybe that explains everything 😄?

They should have honestly gone with the increasing artifact power(would be a nice catchup mechanic for new players and those that didnt put ap in offspec weps) and then it becomes disabled at launch of BFA

You can keep using your artifact weapon into 8.1, the relics and weapon-specific abilities are just disabled.

I won Beta access two days ago, and I almost cried when I logged on my shaman there. Rip Ele/Enhanc.

Sad to hear it, yet I'm going to stay faithful to my only main, elemental shaman of 11 years. Hopefully, they will make some changes in later patches. Still missing some changes from MoP. Actually liked when casters were more mobile, some of them were overtuned, but it felt like they have taken away too much. It feels like melee has too big of an advantage in far more situations, than ranged does.

This confuses me.  Why would they make all the artifacts stop working when the patch drops?

I know most of the thinking is that everyone is max level and has a main (or multiple mains) that is fully geared and quested, and just waiting for the new content.  But what about the rest of the player base that is still slowing working through Legion content?  If they just got their artifact, and now it is disabled.  It doesn't make sense.

My thought is that this would effect people that are at a certain point in a quest line.  Not remove something across the board.  Or even make them disabled once you hit level 111 to snag the people that will work around the quest line, and try to continue to use the artifact with new content.

With Shadowlands coming very soon, it's probably time we took a look back at the events of Battle for Azeroth, especially for returning players who don't want to play through BfA's story, or won't get to see both sides of it. Luckily, we have a friendly dwarf deciding to do just that, as Dorf Ironbottom, aka JenEricLive, takes us through the key moments and story of BfA.

Pirates day is once again upon us! Blizzard have posted an official preview of the activities for this year, and you can also check out our own guide here. Booty Bay is the place to be today, as the event has gone live and you can grab the achievement and have some fun roleplaying a pirate!
      Pirate's Day (source)
Hoist sail and make way for Booty Bay because Pirate’s Day begins September 19!
Bring Your Sea Shanty to Booty Bay
Pirates have taken over the goblin town of Booty Bay and Captain DeMeza is recruiting any scurvy dog she can into her buccaneer ranks. Visit her or her henchmen in the capital cities if the pirate’s life is for you!
Feeling out of place in Booty Bay without a proper costume? Don’t worry. /Dance one little jig with the Dread Captain DeMeza and she’ll be impressed enough to press you into her crew and outfit you properly. If you get attached to your new look, you can do the quest You’re Gonna Need a Bigger Boat! Succeed, and you’ll get an Emergency Pirate Outfit (or five) for when Pirate’s Day is but a distant memory and your inner pirate is clawing to get out.
What good is a pirate without an avian companion on their shoulder? Captain DeMeza (for the exchange of a few shiny coins) can help you call forth a temporary companion named Petey to take with you wherever you sail.
From time to time the captain will shout for a brave party to take on a terror of the deeps–an elite shark known as Ol’Eary. Make sure you have a hearty crew with you or you could become just so much chum in the waters of the bay.
      Join the Beach Party
Once you and your crew have helped the captain handle Ol’Eary, you can celebrate with the crew at a little beach party just south of Booty Bay. Those with the Feat of Strength "Advast Ye, Admiral" can also purchase a toy from Edward Techt–the Jolly Roger to show off their dedication to the cause.
If you’re really feeling generous, you can also purchase a Big Bag of Booty from Captain DeMeza and spread the wealth around to all your pirate pals in a burst of glittery glory.

(The above image is not the official mount, just a potentially similar model we found.)
Update: we have official confirmation and a blue posts on the poll end. Unfortunately no mention on the fate of the other 4 contestants just yet.
      Poll Closing (source)
Thanks to the hundreds of thousands of players around the world who voted in polls over the last two weeks, we now know which of the proposed mounts you most want to ride in 2021. The winner is:
      The Wandering Ancient
A large and leafy mount, the Wandering Ancient invites you to climb aboard and grab ahold of its branches as you embark on a lumbering expedition. Our designers will now work on bringing this mount to life, so that all players who purchase Shadowlands will receive it.
And again, thank you for voting!
      _____________________________________
The polls are closed and the Wandering Ancient has won, as expected, in both the US, EU and China regions! The rest of the pack are also at the same % levels as previously posted in this thread, with another 5,000 players having voted since we checked earlier today. We're definitely getting a big walking tree as the mount, but hopefully we'll also get some of the others through some other means as well!
We also have the poll results for China, where the Ancient got to 42%:

Over 250,000 people have voted in the US and EU alone, with the world-wide total being much higher. And, as we've mentioned before, 2nd and 3rd places will probably also matter, as Blizzard will almost certainly make more than just the winner.

It's great to see that many people voting, especially in the last day, as it shows how passionate the WoW community can be. You can also see that in the fan art, which you can check out here, and even some potential similar in-game models here.

A small change is coming to Cobra Shot in the upcoming Shadowlands Beta build.
Cobra Shot will cost 35 Focus in the next build (down from 45 Focus) with the live Rank 2 baked into it.
      (Source)
Literally people were asking just to add rank 2 back in from live so the focus cost went back and the spec had some possibility of not feeling terrible at some point this expansion.
Somewhere along the lines, the old rank 2 of Cobra Shot (-10 Focus Cost) was lost. In the next build, Cobra Shot should just be 35 Focus cost baseline.

The very popular Shadowlands free mount poll is ending in just a few hours (10PM CEST, 3PM PDT), and we're taking one final look at the numbers and the changes since yesterday to see if we can get even more people to push their favorites! It's also really impressive that over 250,000 people have voted in the US and EU alone, with the world-wide total being much higher. And, as we've mentioned before, 2nd and 3rd places will probably also matter, as Blizzard will almost certainly make more than just the winner.
In the EU 5,000 additional people have voted, but the ratios haven't shifted, in fact the percentages are identical to yesterday's:

The US saw even more new entries, with 6,000 players chiming in, but there's still no movement on the percentages there either, as it's going to take a lot more focused support for any of the mounts that aren't the Ancient!

Unfortunately we weren't able to get an updated number from the Asia servers.
It's great to see that many people voting, especially in the last day, as it shows how passionate the WoW community can be. You can also see that in the fan art, which you can check out here, and even some potential similar in-game models here. So get everyone you know to vote for the Spelltome, uh, we mean your favorite, whichever that may be! We totally don't have a favorite!
