Activision Blizzard signed a historic deal for the broadcast rights to the Overwatch League on US television. For the next 2 years ESPN, Disney XD and ABC will be covering the league events, both live and as summaries. This marks the first time esports will be shown in prime time on a major network, with the quarter and semifinals aired live on DisneyXD and ESPN 2 and 3, while the finals will be shown on both ESPN, ESPN 2 and Disney XD. The package also includes the very first airing of competitive gaming on ABC, one of the big four broadcast networks in the US, with the highlights recap of the finals airing on July 29th. This marks a huge step forward for esports and its presence in the mainstream media, and it seems appropriate for Overwatch to make this first step, as it's already pushed into the pop culture realm.

The playoffs have already started, so check out the schedule below, as well as comments from both ESPN, DisneyXD and Activision Blizzard themselves:

ESPN, Disney XD and Blizzard Entertainment Announce Multiyear Exclusive Telecast Agreement for Overwatch League™

Jul 11, 2018

  • Comprehensive 2018 coverage including Overwatch League playoffs and Grand Finals across ESPN and Disney television networks
  • Telecast schedules for 2019 Overwatch League content to be announced

IRVINE, Calif--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jul. 11, 2018-- Today ESPN, Disney XD and Blizzard Entertainment announced an exclusive multiyear agreement for live television coverage of the Overwatch League, the world’s first major global city-based esports league.

Beginning with Overwatch League playoff coverage on Wednesday, July 11, across both networks, the 2017–2018 Overwatch League inaugural season concludes with the Grand Finals live from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on ESPN and Disney XD July 27–28. All coverage also will be available for ESPN and Disney network subscribers to stream live on the ESPN App and DisneyNOW. To round out the 2018 Grand Finals coverage, a recap show highlighting the biggest moments will air July 29 on ABC. The Grand Finals telecast on ESPN marks the first time live competitive gaming has aired on the flagship network in primetime, and will be the first broadcast of an esports championship on ABC.

“The Overwatch League Grand Finals is by far our most comprehensive television distribution for an esports event over a single weekend: 10 total hours over four networks and three days,” said Justin Connolly, Executive Vice President, Affiliate Sales and Marketing, Disney and ESPN Media Networks. “This overall collaboration with Disney/ABC, ESPN and Blizzard represents our continued commitment to esports, and we look forward to providing marquee Overwatch League coverage across our television platforms for fans.”

“We are pleased to partner with Activision Blizzard to bring Overwatch esports to our audience. The Blizzard team has created a genre-leading esport and a premium professional franchise system in the Overwatch League,” said Marc Buhaj, Senior Vice President, Programming and General Manager, Disney XD. “We are kicking off the agreement by showcasing the inaugural season playoffs and Grand Finals live across our linear footprint. Together with our telecast partners at ESPN, we look forward to growing a legion of new Overwatch fans across the next two years.”

“We’re excited to be working with ESPN and DisneyXD to bring Overwatch esports to an even wider audience,” said Pete Vlastelica, President and CEO of Activision Blizzard Esports Leagues. “We’ve seen incredible passion and support from fans during the inaugural season of the Overwatch League, and we’re looking forward to capping it off for them with an epic Grand Finals at Barclays Center later this month.”

The inaugural season of the Overwatch League will culminate in the Grand Finals, the ultimate showdown for the championship: the first team to win two best-of-five matches at Barclays Center will take home the Overwatch League trophy and the lion’s share of the $1.4 million Grand Finals prize pool. Play begins Friday, July 27, at 7 p.m. EDT with the first best-of-five match on ESPN, and continues Saturday, July 28, at 4:30 p.m. EDT with the second and potential third series on Disney XD. This broadcast will air alongside the primary digital viewing experience on Twitch, with the Overwatch League also available via MLG.com. A re-air of day two Grand Finals play will be available on ESPN2 at 9 p.m. EDT. In addition, a recap show of highlights from the Grand Finals will air Sunday, July 29, at 3 p.m. EDT on ABC. It seems we're not getting the holiday spirit over at Blizzard World after all, as some issues had come up that have forced Blizz to disable the map. It seems players weren't able to leave the spawn area of the map, which is somewhat problematic in pretty much all game modes, especially since there's no basketball hoop or ball to pass the time in there.
They've since brought it back, but only in Arcade mode and only the old, non holiday-ed version.
      Blizzard World (source)
      Hi everyone,
We’ve identified an issue with Blizzard World preventing players from leaving spawn areas at the start of the match and completing the match.
Due to the impact of this issue, we have temporarily disabled Blizzard World in all regions on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One while we troubleshoot. We don’t have an ETA to share right now for when Blizzard World will again be playable, but this is currently our top priority and we will be sure to provide updates in this thread and on Twitter via @BlizzardCS as they become available.
Thank you to all our players for being patient during this time.
WED 12/12 6:45PM PST UPDATE: While the team gets Blizzard World spruced back up for your holiday enjoyment, we have turned the Arcade Cards back on but with regular Blizzard World in place of holiday Blizzard World. Note that all Blizzard World maps remain disabled in the Competitive, Quick Play, and Custom game modes. Thanks for your patience!

While Winter Wonderland may be the big thing in this patch, some of the implemented Hero changes are almost as big - Brigitte gets a whole lot of changes, especially to Shield Bash, with its damage basically being removed and it no longer going through barriers; McCree gets a buff to his alt fire, which used to be very overpowered and problematic back at the start of Overwatch; Doomfist gets a whole bunch of changes as well; Ashe, Bastion and Torbjorn are also getting some tuning, but it's relatively minor compared to the three mentioned above. The rest of the patch holds just a very, very big amount of bug fixes so, enjoy:
And here's the usual patch rundown by redditor itsjieyang:

      GENERAL UPDATES
      Audio
An option to use Windows Spatial Audio is now available. This feature can be found in the Windows Start Menu under Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Speaker Device > Spatial Sound Developer Comments: Since launch, we’ve supported Dolby Atmos for players who use headphones, and we’re now expanding this support to include the Windows 10 implementation for spatial audio. Spatial audio is configured in the Windows 10 sound settings and will take priority over the settings in the game client. This will allow for more options, including settings for Windows Sonic Headphones, Dolby Atmos for Headphones, and Dolby Atmos for Home Theater.
      HERO UPDATES
      Ashe
B.O.B. Bob will now have a golden tint when Ashe equips her golden weapon Developer Comments: Our final technical audit on Ashe’s character package allowed us to implement a feature we talked about several times during Bob’s production. Making him part of Ashe’s golden weapon is a great way to celebrate our favorite Big Omnic Butler and let players show off their hard-earned Competitive Points each time they summon him onto the battlefield.
      Bastion
Configuration: Recon Ammo increased from 25 to 35 Configuration: Sentry Weapon spread decreased by up to 33% while firing Developer Comments: Bastion could use a little bit of an offensive boost to balance out how vulnerable Configuration: Recon’s bulky size and Sentry’s stationary nature make it. As a reward for surviving in spite of these weaknesses, we gave Bastion a lower spread in Sentry mode to make it more effective at farther ranges than it was previously.
      Brigitte
Shield Bash No longer can travel or stun targets through barriers Damage reduced from 50 to 5 Inspire Cooldown reduced from 1.5 seconds to 1 second Duration increased from 5 seconds to 6 seconds Total healing increased from 80 to 100 Developer Comments: Brigitte’s Shield Bash is a strong ability that often feels difficult to counter. This change will offer new options for counter play, enabling shield tanks to better protect themselves and their teammates. Reducing its damage reduces her total stun combo damage potential while still allowing Whip Shot and her basic melee attacks to retain their full strength. Brigitte is a tank/healer hybrid, and lately we’ve been reducing her effectiveness by lowering the power of her non-healing functionality. We want to make sure she is still a viable pick, so we’re increasing the uptime of her Inspire passive ability to help improve her overall healing output.
      Doomfist
Rising Uppercut Loss of air control duration lowered from 3 seconds to 0.6 seconds Seismic Slam Maximum range reduced from 20 meters to 15 meters Targets no longer lose air control while being pulled in Meteor Strike Inner ring damage radius increased from 1.5 meters to 2.0 meters Outer ring maximum damage decreased from 300 to 200 Developer Comments: Doomfist’s high mobility allows him to engage and disengage from extremely long range. Decreasing the range of the targeted aerial version of Seismic Slam requires him to get closer before engaging an enemy and makes it slightly harder for him to escape from combat. The loss of air control on Rising Uppercut was a frustrating mechanic for players, but it allowed Doomfist to set up combos. We’ve found a decent middle ground by limiting the amount of time Doomfist has to line up his next move. The Meteor Strike changes will make it harder to secure easy eliminations on heroes without mobility abilities, such as Zenyatta or Ana, while still preserving its maximum potential damage when aimed well or when combined with other abilities such as Graviton Surge or Sleep Dart.
      McCree
Peacekeeper Alternate fire damage increased from 45 to 55 Developer Comments: McCree’s Fan the Hammer wasn’t as reliable against higher health heroes as it should be. Increasing its damage will make it more potent in close-range engagements where it is intended to be most effective.
      Torbjörn
Molten Core Damage increased from 130 to 160 per second Developer Comments: While the Molten Core damage pools were intended to provide players with tools for area denial, they weren’t proving threatening enough to deter enemies for a significant amount of time because their damage was too low.

      CELEBRATE WINTER WONDERLAND
‘Tis the season to get merry!
Overwatch is getting into the holiday spirit for the next three weeks! Expand your collection and enjoy two winter brawls: Yeti Hunter and Mei’s Snowball Offensive. Visit Blizzard World to watch the snow fall, admire its twinkling nighttime lights, and savor the sight of confectionary-inspired décor.
Of course, we have new presents for you to unwrap from our Winter Loot Boxes! Unlock new seasonal items—including legendary skins like Krampus Junkrat, Sugar Plum Fairy Mercy, Figure Skater Symmetra, and more. Shine as the star of the match with Wrecking Ball’s Festive highlight intro, “awww” at Torbjörn’s My Babies emote, or deck the halls with Genji’s Paper Stars. And, in case you missed a Winter Wonderland item during last year’s event, we’re bringing them back at a discount! You can see a sample of what’s in this year’s Winter Loot Box below, or check out the full contents in-game in the Hero Gallery.
      Yeti Hunter
This 6-player brawl sets five Meis against one Yeti player who uses Winston’s abilities. The Yeti must gather meat to unlock a powerful Primal Rage ability, making him immune to Mei’s freezing abilities and granting other more powerful bonuses to eliminate the hunters. Mei players have a new tool in their arsenal, too: a “Yeti Trap” ultimate ability to root their quarry in place. Yeti players must survive long enough to eliminate enemy Meis before they take him down. Which side will emerge victorious from the snow?
      Mei’s Snowball Offensive
In this brawl, Mei's Endothermic Blaster has been modified to fire a single, super-powered snowball. Taking down an enemy only requires one hit, but a miss can be costly. Once your weapon is empty search for the nearest snow pile to reload. When the battle starts to heat up, you can activate Mei's Ultimate, which turns her blaster into an automatic snowball launcher, allowing you to fire continuously as your enemies scatter.
      Collect New Festive Gear!
The new seasonal items can be found in Winter Loot Boxes filled with new skins, emotes, highlights, player icons, sprays, voice lines, and more. You can also purchase items you missed from last year's event with credits at a discount. But don’t wait too long—these Loot Boxes will disappear faster than holiday desserts.
And here are the new skins from this year:

And finally, here's the latest Hero with her first event skin!

If you want to check out skins from the previous year or the highlight intros and emotes, head on over to the official event site.
Two returning modes, a bunch of new cosmetics and 4 holiday-themed map reworks, as well as whole lot of stuff from past years are here!

Winter is coming to Overwatch later today and we have 4 more skin reveals from the past few days, with some pretty amazing ones in there! The most recent (and probably best) addition is Junkrat Krampus, who just might set some (monogrammed) traps in a few chimneys, so Santa better look out:
Next we have two slightly less complex ones, but still pretty impressive, with Figure Skater Symmetra and Biathlon Widow:
And finally we have a great one, with Mercy becoming even sweeter as Sugar Plum Fairy Mercy:

The event starts tomorrow and lasts through January 2nd, so get ready for some wonder!

It's the holiday season in all Blizzard games and Overwatch is no exception, as Winter Wonderland returns next week, starting on December 11th! We're (at the very least) getting the usual two modes: Mei's Snowball Offensive and Yeti Hunt, as well as new cosmetics and some holiday themed maps, including the new Blizzard World:
The event lasts until January 2nd and we already have previews for two new skins, featuring Zarya and Lucio, with a decidedly furry look:
As usual with these returning events, we'll also be able to get last years' skins from loot boxes, as well as buy them at slightly cheaper prices. Here are some of the previous years' skins:
