Mephisto to Be Unveiled at Gamescom 2018?

Recommended Posts

je4WBGr.jpg

Blizzard started posting Hero teasers on Twitter yesterday and it's more than certain that we'll see a new Hero introduction at Gamescom. Rockyd900 viewed the source code of the first teaser and the alt image said "teaser for Mephisto" before Blizzard removed it.

After Deckard Cain, it appears that Mephisto will be the next Hero to join the fray. Excited to see a new Diablo Hero? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

Teaser 1

Here we have the first teaser posted by Blizzard and Rockyd900's screenshot of the Mephisto description.

Yessssss I love Mephisto. Waited for him long time didn't even think they will add him. Thank you Blizz
Cool thing also is that on second tease we can see Ort and Thul runes which are of lightning and cold elements. Shame they failed by that html code this was good quality teasing.

Possibly two new heroes to be reavealed:

Screenshot implies that there is going to be something like "choose your side" between Burning Hells and High Heavens.

Awesome. I assume that if they are bringing one of the Great Evils, the other option gotta be from the Angiris Council.

Mephisto X Imperius?

Could be, he is one of the most requested heroes. Only other council angel is Itherael, but it's very unlikely that we would see him added to the game, considering how Imperius is way more popular.

absolutely YES! I've been waiting for him to appear, even tho I hoped he'd be a specialst (even tried to create a concept for him on my own), but since we won't get any more of those my guess is that he's either an assassin, or that they re-work the role system for the existing heroes. Either ways I'm really looking foward to see his kit!

Specialist is just a name. Assassin or warrior can have good wave clear as well.

True that. I still hope they'll do something that represents his name.

When I thought about a concept for him my idea was to give him an Abathur like playstyle with low health but pretty decent wave clear and let minions or heroes gain hate stacks each time he attacks them and at a certain lvl of stacks reached they would turn against their allies.

Can't really remember him from Diablo II.

Doesn't really seem that interesting as an individual to play in such a fleshed out hots environment.

https://diablo.gamepedia.com/Mephisto_(Diablo_II)

Hopefully he gets a more arm-chair general kind of setup and gets some interesting summons.

Or some form of friendly fire ability.

I liked Carbot's take on him, even if we just got a support. I don't think we will be getting more minion/summon focused heroes, but as long as his kit is interesting I'm game.

Looks like Carbot was right again.

@offtopic: How do I post videos?

Pasting a Youtube link usually does the trick :).

Seems like they screwed up their latest releases quite a lot. First Viper skins and now they tag the release teaser for mephisto? I mean did they think people wouldn't try? 😄

I happen to remember him very well, especially considering how many grind trips I had with him in D2. I do have to say though, that I cannot image what his skillset will be. Especially and what he had in D2 was nothing special / notable. Only that lightning / frost ball comes to my mind and the clone perhaps.

Hmmm, I'd expect at least 1-2 Warcraft Heroes since the launch of BfA but if we're gonna get a double release + themed event again, I'm not complaining :>

The way that guy used inspect element and found that... clean af.

Looks like it this was on a local team, so probably out of control from Blizzard proper. Not the first time it happens, like when we had leaks from Chinese, Korean or Portuguese official sources, when they added some description or made a video public too early.

Much like I said in a different topic, this is definitely Mephisto. The fact that the german HotS Twitter removed the post should be enough of a proof (if it was a hoax they wouldn't remove).

I would love if he followed the concept Carbot created for him, although I find unlikely we'll get two Supports in a row (but being a Support main, it would be a dream come true).

Also, you can spot the Ort and Thul runes in the second image, and an unknown third rune at the bottom. And the fact it is surrounded by a cold icy mist hints of Mephisto depiction in game as well.

True enough.  As the Lord of Hate he should probably have a Taunt ability, preferably ranged.  Outside of that his biggest feat was his ability to massively corrupt the Zakarum (which means his voice lines for Johanna should be especially nasty).  I'm unsure how to show that in-game, maybe a mind control, silence, or confusion ability or maybe a lane minon boosting ability?  He is also big on raising spirits, undead, and bones structures (like the D2 Necromancer's bone walls/cage).  Seems very controller/specialist to me.

Hope it’s true, I’m a Mephisto fan. Much better to me than Baal as I didn’t like him. I imagine him as a offensive oriented support. I imagine Stukov with offensive ults personally but I’ve been happy so far with Blizzard’s interpretations.

Mephisto was more brains than brawls. While in-game he wasn't very notable (aside from Skull Missile which hits like a truck), he has a lot of weight in the lore.

He was the most cunning of the Prime Evils and conducted most of the plans. In fact, he was the founder of the Triune, which was a religion created in Sanctuary to allow the Prime Evils to cover their presence from the High Heavens while corrupting the mind of the humans.

Not only that, but his daughter, Lilith, was one of the responsibles for creating Sanctuary itself alongside Inarius, the rogue archangel. Also, he is the grandfather of Rathma, son of Lilith and Inarius, who was part of the first generation of Nephalem and later became the very first Necromancer.

Regarding his skillset I think he will definitely feature a lot of slow in his kit due his relation with Cold spells in game, as well the aforementioned Skull Missile. Much like Blizzard likes doing, I think they will give him his own unique moveset instead of just copy pasting what he had in D2. Considering Blizzard won't be releasing new Specialists as they plan to eliminate the role, he will probably be either an Offensive Support or straightup Assassin with a control kit (maybe akin to Kel'Thuzad).

Maybe if Blizzard paid their employees a wage commensurate with it's earnings they wouldn't have silly mistakes like this all the time.

I would love to get a mage necromancer character, since neither Xul nor KTZ fit the fantasy role.

In Storm League, rank is always updated by taking the change in rating and determining the equivalent number of rank points to reward. While the Heroes team is quite happy with how it turned out, the system is causing problems in Bronze 5.
In Bronze 5, players gain/lose far fewer points per game than players in other leagues and divisions. The underlying problem makes it harder to climb out of Bronze 5 and causes frustration and bad gameplay experience. The team is working on ways to improve it and provided an explanation of why this is happening.
      Blizzard (Source)
With the launch of Storm League season 1 we have seen a dramatic improvement in rank distribution. One of the primary changes in this release was in how rank is determined. In the past, rank and rating were two entirely different concepts, both of which were updated differently after each game. It was very common for a player's rank and rating to diverge throughout each season which could cause the matchmaking system to struggle to find games.
With the changes introduced this season, rank is always updated by taking the change in rating and determining the equivalent number of rank points to reward. This leaves very few ways rating and rank can diverge and results in most players being shown a number equivalent to their rating.
Overall, we are very happy with how the changes are looking; however, we are aware of the inconsistencies players are currently experiencing in Bronze 5. With the new design, players in Bronze 5 will gain/lose far fewer points per game than players in all of the other leagues and divisions. The reason for this is a bit technical but we wanted to take the opportunity to elaborate on what's going on.
Under the hood, matchmaking rating is simply a number on a bell curve. Every league and division encompasses a range of values on the same curve. For example, if the overall bell curve ranges from -10.0 to 10.0 and the range 1.0 to 1.5 maps to Gold 1, then a player with a rating of 1.25 will have the equivalent rank of Gold 1 & 500/1000 points. These numbers are intentionally made up as the real ones are always subject to change but the idea is the same.
The reason for the decrease in points awarded in Bronze 5 is that the range of ratings that maps to Bronze 5 is much larger than other divisions. The difference is that this much larger range of ratings still maps to the same number of rank points. As a result, despite being rewarded the same change in matchmaking rating, the rank points awarded may be lower. This is visualized by the graph below:
We understand that this inconsistency is a negative experience for players so we will be exploring some ways to improve it.
Thanks for participating in Storm League and providing your feedback!
