Wowhead had two interviews on Battle for Azeroth and one for WoW Classic during BlizzCon 2018 and we have recapped all of them.

For all the latest news, check out our BlizzCon 2018 hub.

First, we have highlights from the interview with Morgan Day and Shani Edwards, which you can read here.

  • No plans to add a currency system for Azerite Armor anywhere else (raids and PvP) other than Mythic+.
  • No Reorigination Army in Battle of Dazar’alor [but there will be another raid trait as revealed in the Method interview]
  • The underwater boss is still in early development. They can add mechanics during the fight to make it easier for players such as underwater walk speed.
  • No plans to bring back Master Loot in Tides of Vengeance, but they can bring it back at a later time if it’s right for the game again.
  • No changes for Personal loot trading rules in Tides of Vengeance, but it’s something they are probably going to take a look at in a future patch.
  • No plans to add legendaries right now, but they might be added in a future update.
  • There are still going to be random drops in Island Expeditions. The new mounts and toys will be available on the vendors and will be separate from the loot table that is dropping right now. They're also playing with the idea of a treasure map. When you complete an Island you might get a treasure map and that treasure map will start an elite mission with big rewards. They haven't nailed down exactly what's going to be rewarded from those treasure chests but they're talking about possibly adding some of that Azerite Armor currency in them.
  • They are discussing other places where the M+ currency can drop from apart from the Mythic+ chest and scrapping/disenchanting Azerite Armor.
  • No titles or mounts planned for Mythic+, just new achievements.
  • Different types of Souls that will chase you down in the Reaping affix: Lost Soul, Risen Soul and Tormented Soul [more details on this again on the Method interview].
  • A lot of abilities currently don’t hit Explosives in M+ – they will change that.
  • Heroic Warfronts will be flexible, so you can queue with 10 or more people and they're going to be much harder than the ones that are currently on live. Heroic Warfronts will also have higher level rewards. These will be available on both the Arathi and Darkshore Warfronts. 
  • The second Pathfinder achievement will be available in 8.2 and it will require a mix of exploration, content and reputation.

Next up, Wowhead Weekly hosts Annie Fuchsia and Perculia interviewed Game Director Ion Hazzikostas and Art Director Chris Robinson.

  • We could see more Heritage Armor sets in the future for all races. They will be added when it feels appropriate.
  • No specific plans to use the original Night Elf armor, now worn by many elven NPCs in Darkshore, for Heritage Armor—but if people respond well to a piece of armor, then Blizzard can take that as a starting point for something reminiscent of it.
  • No plans to make the Night Elf glaive from Darkshore available to other classes apart from Demon Hunter.
  • It makes sense to continue with Cosmetic rewards as a form of recognition and progression for different play styles .
  • No immediate plans to add Deluxe sets like the CM skins.
  • They are working on making the Heart of Azeorth “beefier”.
  • They haven’t full fleshed out the travel specifics in the 8.2 zones.
  • Are More rewards coming with the new micro-holidays and additions to Darkmoon Faire? There are always new things to chase from evergreen content, so they try to add rewards where it makes sense. There are definitely rewards from the Brawler's Guild.
  • There will be Glowing eye customization for female Worgen, as well as more facial customization options.
  • There are no new rare Hunter pets, but there are always new pets to tame when we visit new areas.
  • Straight-backed undead? Not actively working on it. They may tackle that sort of stuff in the future. Undead skins is also a cool space to explore.
  • No Alterac Valley revamp yet.
  • More character slots per server as Allied Races are added.

Lastly, Executive Producer John Hight and Lead Software Engineer Brian Birmingham talked about WoW Classic. You can read the interview here.

  • There are no current plans of developing any future content past Patch 1.12, or an eventual transition to Burning Crusade.
  • No phasing or cross-realm zones in Classic. Sharding is a possibility.
  • The demo is pretty close to the final version of how WoW Classic will be, but it is always subject to changes. For example, the lighting still needs some work.
  • They used the Vanilla network for Classic and they aren't going to make any changes to the network stack. They are adding improvements from modern networks though. A lot more stability and reduced queue times but that's not a guaranteed day 1 feature.
  • They don't have any plans to make changes to any of the balancing in 1.12.
  • They have some modern movement enforcement and exploit detection code that prevents things like walljumping.
  • No plans for realm transfers and race changes. They will see which of these services make sense for Classic. You won't be able to transfer between Classic and modern WoW if they add realm transfers.
  • You will be able to communicate with your friends playing Modern WoW, or people playing other games like Overwatch, but you will not be able to move your character over to Modern WoW.
  • Items that you get in Classic WoW will not be transmoggable by your characters in Modern WoW.
  • They are thinking about whether they will allow communication with the other faction in Classic like you can do today (by right clicking on someone's portrait and adding him/her to Battle.net).

      Check out the schedule of upcoming micro-holidays!
      Blizzard today posted a schedule of upcoming micro-holidays in World of Warcraft. New micro-holidays will be added in Patch 8.1.5. The slide presentation at the What's Next panel mentioned The Wanderer's Festival, Vashj'ir Diving, and permanenent micro-holiday rewards (shirts)!

      A new addition to Legion is what we’re calling micro-holidays. Each one is meant to make the world feel more alive without making players feel like they need to participate for big rewards—while still providing some more variety and fun.
      Call of the Scarab (January 21-23)
      To commemorate the first ringing of the Scarab Gong on January 23, 2006, players will be able to relive a portion of the Ahn’Qiraj gate opening by collecting items for turn-in. The winning faction will then be able to claim bragging rights and have their faction flag hang over the gates until the next Call of the Scarab micro-holiday event.
      Kirin Tor Tavern Crawl (January 31)
      The mages of Azeroth like to relax, too. Hop into a portal at your local watering hole and join the Tavern Crawl!
      Hatching of the Hippogryphs (February 23)
      Those who head to Feralas will be able to bear witness to the yearly hatching of the hippogryphs. You may even make a little friend for the day.
      Un'goro Madness (March 17-19)
      Dinosaurs are running amok in Un’Goro. Help quell the rampage and you’ll be awarded some temporary evolution buffs.
      March of the Tadpoles (April 5)
      Each year, the Winterfin murlocs allow their tadpoles free reign over their village. You can make a difference by adopting your favorite, feeding it, and protecting it from nearby predators.
      Volunteer Guard Day (April 28)
      Step into the shoes of a guard in the major cities with a /salute and you’ll get to serve and protect the city just like them. Stay vigilant and watch out for any invaders.
      Spring Balloon Festival (May 10-12)
      Several of Azeroth’s characters – some of whom you might recognize – are giving tours of Azeroth in their hot air balloons. You’ll enjoy their commentary and interact with other citizens as you take in the scenery.
      Glowcap Festival (May 27)
      Head to Sporeggar in Zangarmarsh, collect some rare mushrooms, and help the sporelings heal the great mushroom, Fshoo. You’ll gain a bit of Sporeggar reputation for helping them out.
      Thousand Boat Bash (June 6-8)
      Thousand Needles is where the biggest bash on boats can be found in Azeroth. It’s a chance to unwind a little, away from the lurking danger of the Burning Legion. Auction House Dance Party (July 22)
      The main auction houses in Orgrimmar and Stormwind have been cleaned out and turned into dance parties for the day! Crowd on in and show some faction pride!

      Blizzard drastically reduced experience requirements in the 20-110 range in the latest 8.1 PTR Build 28366 and a new potion is available for purchase that increases stats by 20 and XP gains by 10% for an hour for characters below level 120.
      Experience Requirements Per Level Nerfed in Patch 8.1
      According to our friends at MMO-Champion, Blizzard reduced experience required to level on PTR by approximately 22%, so earning Heritage Armor and leveling up alts will be faster in Tides of Vengeance. For example, you'll need 40% less experience per level in the 59-65 range, and the amount of experience from 80-110 has been reduced by a whopping 25%.

      New Heirlooms
      In 8.1 Build 28294, new Heirlooms were added to the Warfront vendors.

      Taste of Victory
      Taste of Victory is a new item that increases all Experience gains for characters below level 120 by 10% for an hour. You can get it from completing Incursions with a character below max level, according to Wowhead.
      New XP Potion
      Draught of Ten Lands is a potion that increases experience gains by 10% and all stats by +20 for 1 hour. You can purchase it from the new Warfront vendors for 10 7th Legion Service Medals (Alliance) or 10 Honorbound Service Medals in Patch 8.1.

      If you're still holding off leveling your alts, just wait for December 11 when the patch goes live!

      WoW's Creative Director talked to Eurogamer at BlizzCon 2018 about BfA's most controversial character: Warchief Sylvanas Windrunner.
      Alex Afrasiabi started off by saying that it's more interesting having a divided fanbase on Sylvanas, it shows that the story team is doing their job well.
      Then, while explaining how Sylvanas was always a villain, he mentions that the Wrathgate happened under her orders. This is extremely weird and it's definitely not how it is depicted in game; hopefully we won't have a retcon or a change of the story on this.
      Regarding the Tides of Vengeance questline where you will choose to side with Sylvanas or with Saurfang, Afrasiabi revealed that there will be subsequent quests where you will have to follow through the choice you make.
      And what about Sylvanas' ultimate fate? Well, she is not just a fan favourite, but she's a beloved character by the developers as well. For example, Afrasiabi has been working on her story since 2006. For the moment, she seems to be too well liked to be killed off and in Afrasiabi's words "it would be dismissive to think she'll just go down as another raid boss, because she's a little bit more than that". That doesn't mean we won't fight her one day and her story is far from over.

      The Starting Zone interviewed Senior Art Director Chris Robinson and Assistant Technical Director Frank Kowalkowski in the first part of the podcast. The second part includes an exclusive audio from the press conference with Senior Game Designer Jeremy Feasel and Lead Environment Artist Tina Wang.
      Highlights (Chris Robinson & Franz Kowalkowski Interview)
      With Battle of Dazar'alor, they took existing assets of the city, decreased view distance, closed all shop doors and removed vendors. The raid opened up the entire area, it's not just about the pyramid. Key aspects of the raid happen outside the city proper. Darkmoon Faire will have a new roller coaster in Patch 8.1.5. From a technical perspective, level designers have the capability to replaces areas of the world with different terrain and structures. Darkshore has been altered to support Tyrande's new 8.1 questline and the new Warfront. Rise of Azshara (Patch 8.2) architecture drew inspirations from the existing Naga culture. Nagas are fish people, so obviously, there won't be any elevators! They have new waterfall technology that will debut in Nazjatar. They want to experiment more with AI bots introduced in Island Expeditions. Sneaky Pete is still there, let's see if he queues up for a battleground. Goblin & Worgen model rework goals: retain core fantasy and bring them up to the fidelity we're used to. They still have some work to do with the Female Worgen model. The model does no longer have the chihuahua scalp. Highlights (Jeremy Feasel & Tina Wang Press Conference)
      Players will be able to unlock customization options by completing the Tyrande questline in Patch 8.1 and that's something they've never done before. Tides of Vengeance includes multi-threading support. DX12 will be able to utilize more cores! Arathi Basin and Warsong Gulch will be visually revamped in Patch 8.1.5. There was one Art Direction meeting where they went to Warsong Gulch and everybody remembers the bush you can hide in, because it was very blocky, triangular and completely covered your character. They had to make the bush bigger to support hiding. Updated Darkshore features some really cool Forsaken architecture.       Highlights
      World of Warcraft maintains an even faction balance. Overall win rates in battlegrounds are "shockingly even". The Alliance wins more Isle of Conquest & Alterac Valley games, everything else skews mildly to the Horde, with a win rate of 46-54%. Blizzard is looking to incentivize War Mode more in Patch 8.1, by adding increased rewards for the less-represented faction in War Mode (Alliance). Ion suspects many Alliance players had a rough start with War Mode and opted out. Players who join large raid groups to kill the weekly world boss all abruptly appear on the same shard, causing an imbalance that the game's systems try to balance by bringing in an equivalent number of players of the opposing faction. If a raid group disbands, players pop back into their own realms and the compensating characters notice a sudden influx of enemies with enabled War Mode. Blizzard has been closely monitoring high-end participation in raids and other activities and found out that most high-end players gravitate toward the Horde, so they decided to nerf two racials: Arcane Torrent & Berserking in Patch 8.1. Arcane Torrent - Cooldown increased to 2 minutes (up from 1.5 minutes). Berserking will increase Haste by 10% (down from 15%) for 12 seconds (up from 10 seconds). The company's working on passive enticements for high-end players and guilds to change factions. The Horde Hall of Fame was filled up on October 14, the Alliance side had 100 guilds who defeated G'huun on November 5. Alliance is "potentially a little bit" more likely to include more casuals according to Ion. The team is keeping an eye on class and specialization appearance rates in PvP combat.
