Darkshore Warfront Official Preview

Recommended Posts

It's time for an official look to the next Warfront coming next week with Tides of Vengeance, with a new cycle, changes to the various phases, new rewards and a new reward currency!  Starting off in Horde hands (or, well, Forsaken hands), the Alliance will soon assault it after an intro quest line with the night elves. The usual Warfront cycle will be shortened as well, at least for this month, so everyone can get to experience each side before the holidays.

The general Warfront system is also getting tweaked, with each front functioning independently with contributions etc. and each phase of the Warfront has also been updated, so check below for details. Rewards are the new sets but there's also a new currency to buy heirlooms, pets, mounts, transmog cloaks with, as well as a teleport ring, and experience potions! The item level of the gear itself will stay at Arathi Warfront levels for now, but it will increase when Season 2 starts, which seems to be January 22nd, as recent posts suggest.

In the ashen shadow of Teldrassil, the night elves prepare to strike back against the Forsaken and reclaim their ancestral homeland. . . .

With the upcoming release of Tides of Vengeance, the war between the Horde and Alliance will arrive to a brand-new Warfront: The Battle for Darkshore. Players of both factions will meet once more on the shores of Kalimdor to vie for control of this war-torn region.

The Cycle of War Begins Anew

When Tides of Vengeance goes live, Darkshore will start in the hands of the Forsaken and the Horde—but it won’t be long before the Alliance makes its first strike.

Max-level Alliance players who complete the new opening storyline with Tyrande and the night elves will be immediately able to queue for the Battle for Darkshore Warfront, signaling the start of a new cycle of war as each faction contributes resources, launches their assault, and reaps the benefits of claiming Darkshore for their own.

We’ve also shortened the cycle for the first two weeks of the Warfront so that players from both factions will have access to it and all its rewards prior to the holidays.

A War on Two Fronts

With the addition of the Battle for Darkshore, there will be two battles for players to fight—and many resource contributions to be made to support the war efforts in both the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor.

To help support these dual efforts, we’re making some updates to the Warfront cycles and phases, and how each faction gains access to the Battle for Darkshore and Battle for Stromgarde.

First, each Warfront’s cycle is completely independent from the other, and players will be able to contribute to either Warfront without impacting the other. You’ll be able to track the progress of contributions for each in an updated UI so you’ll be able to easily see which phase each Warfront is in.

Contribute Phase

With the release of Tides of Vengeance, we’re also changing the way the Contribute phase works for both Warfronts. While there were previously 11 quests available at the start of the contribution cycle, there will instead be 3 available each day during this phase. These quests will always include one to turn in either gold or War Resources, as well as two profession turn-ins.

Siege Phase

The Siege phase is when your faction can queue up for the Warfront instance. And while this phase works much the same as it did with the Battle for Stromgarde, the new Darkshore Warfront offers a whole new experience—with new locations, troops, building types, objectives, and more. Players who meet the minimum item-level requirement of 320 will be able to queue for the Battle for Darkshore Warfront as often as they would like while this phase is active.

As the Alliance, your mission will be to reclaim Darkshore and undo the natural devastation caused by marauding Forsaken. On the Horde, your ultimate goal will be to wrest control of this key location in Kalimdor back from the Alliance, razing the landscape and ensuring the night elves can’t reclaim their homeland.

As players storm this new Warfront, they’ll notice some other changes that set it apart from the Battle for Stromgarde. For example: Rather than grant a buff to players, Essence of Storms will provide players with access to powerful transformations allowing them to take on alternate roles such as healing or tanking on the battlefield.

Players will also gain new gear from the new Warfront (starting at item level 340), and players can take part in a quest once per Warfront cycle to obtain a higher item level piece of gear.

Patrol Phase

During the Patrol phase, maximum-level players of the controlling faction who have completed an introductory questline will be able to participate in multiple new outdoor activities in the newly revamped Darkshore zone. Controlling the zone will also provide access to a new faction-specific World Boss, rare creatures, and access to new gear, pets, mounts, and Warfront gear. There will also be plenty of new treasures hidden throughout the zone just waiting to be discovered.

Players will also be able to take part in a rotating series of new World Quests during this phase which provide additional opportunities to get great new loot to use in your ongoing adventures.

What’s New in the Darkshore Zone?

With the arrival of this new Warfront, the outdoor zone of Darkshore has been reshaped by the fires of war for maximum-level players and features environment updates, an all-new World Boss for each faction, and all new World Quests for the controlling faction. There will also be new rare creatures to discover along the way that have a chance to drop mounts, pets, toys, treasure chests, and new Darkshore Warfronts gear.

We’ve also updated the Patrol Phase for Arathi Highlands in Tides of Vengeance to include many new World Quests, which will replace the current kill quests in the outdoor zone. Like those being introduced in Darkshore, these will rotate each day that your faction controls the zone, providing new opportunities for loot and rewards each time you return during the Patrol phase.

Completing these new World Quests in both Darkshore and Arathi Highlands will help you increase your reputation with the 7th Legion or Honorbound emissary.

Rewarding the War Effort

Players will be able to earn new night elf (Alliance) or Forsaken (Horde)–themed Warfront armor sets, as well as a new Service Medal currency, by taking part in various activities in the Warfront. Service Medals can be used to purchase items such as new heirlooms, pets, mounts, transmog cloaks, a teleport ring, and experience potions at a vendor located in the Warfronts area of either Boralus or Zandalar.

The item levels of gear from both Warfronts will start off in line with those currently available in Arathi Highlands; however, the item levels will increase once and Season 2 of the raid, PvP, and Mythic Dungeon begins with the arrival of the Battle of Dazar’alor raid.

What Are Warfronts?

Warfronts represent large-scale war on the homefront as members of each faction fight for control of a location critical to the war effort between the Horde and Alliance.

Anchored in the real-time strategy (RTS) origins of Warcraft, you play the role of a lieutenant leading the charge on the ground of a massive battle. Together with 19 fellow allied players, you will create an outpost, secure resources, set up supply lines, and train troops to help push forward and assault an enemy stronghold. Unlike Warcraft III, you’ll be fighting in this conflict firsthand rather than commanding from a top-down perspective—putting you on the front lines of a large-scale, 20-player PvE experience.

I don't think they're implementing difficulties with 8.1. I tried to queue up for Darkshore, but after spending two hours in the queue I just gave up and the Warfront was no longer available the day after 😄.

so will both warfronts be active at the same time for one faction? or will they be staggered so that say alliance could be doing Stromgarde while horde is doing Darkshore, then it switches to Horde doing Stromgarde while Alliance is doing Darkshore? cause it sucks waiting like 3 weeks!

Based on what I read(a while back to be honest so I can't be sure),they will have a sort of cycle more or less , I think Blizz would like to go with the idea of rotation on warfronts, thus giving players the option of not waiting so long between faction control. When Arathi is up for horde ,alliance get Battle for Darkshore I guess or be very close to completing.

We have a sizeable batch of hotfixes today, with preserved contaminant improvements, a Corrupted Gladiator's Spite and Mantid Fire bomb nerf, as well as the WSG and Black Lotus classic fixes already announced.
      May 28 (source)
      Items and Rewards
Preserved Contaminant and Gouged Eye of N'Zoth can now be applied to items acquired from weekly rated PvP quests. Player versus Player
[With regional restarts] Corrupted Gladiator's Spite  on use effect now keeps the afflicted enemies in combat for the full duration of its effect. Fixed an issue where Mantid Fire Bomb damage was scaling incorrectly against players. WoW Classic
Black Lotus now spawns more often and can appear in many new locations. Black Lotus cannot be seen on-screen or on the minimap by players who are dead, unless they have Herbalism at level 300 or higher. In Warsong Gulch, several locations outside of the intended play area have been blocked off.

Blizzard plans to deploy a fix in the coming days for Ineffable Truth and its interaction with Fist of Justice (and similar abilities) that are causing more than intended amounts of cooldown reduction.
      (Source)
We think we’ve found a way to fix a bug, and we’re planning to deploy the fix in the next day or two.
The bug is with the Corruption Effect Ineffable Truth and its interaction with abilities like Fist of Justice causing more than the intended amounts of cooldown reduction.
The hotfix will make it so the flat cooldown reduction provided by Fist of Justice (and similar abilities) will not be unintentionally increased by effects that increase your cooldown rate (such as Ineffable Truth).
We’ll confirm that the fix is live in our hotfixes update posts.

Soulbinds offer access to additional powers in Shadowlands through talent trees, and in this preview, we're looking at the early version of the system, all available trees, and more.
      Soulbinds
After choosing your Covenant in Shadowlands, you will be gain access to additional powers through a system of research trees called Soulbinds. These are very similar to MOTHER's Titanic Research Archive in Patch 8.3.
The various passives you unlock through the system improve your Covenant Abilities in different ways.
Each Covenant comes with 3 NPCs that you can bind your soul to and each NPC provides a different set of abilities.
You will be able to gradually unlock the powers with two currencies. Freed Souls are the primary currency found in Torghast and Reservoir Anima is an NYI (not-yet-implemented) secondary currency.
Freed Souls (Primary) - With enough Freed Souls, you may be able to advance aspects of your Covenant Sanctum. You can get Freed Souls from Torghast and spend them at your Covenant Sanctum. Reservoir Anima (Secondary) Conduits
In addition to various passives that Soulbinds provide, you will also gain access to Utility, Throughput, and Survival Conduits.
Each empty Conduit slot grants you effects based on its type:
Throughput Conduit Entry - Damage and healing increased by 4%. Survival Conduit Entry - [PH] Damage taken reduced by 3%. Utility Conduit Entry - [PH] Movement speed increased by 6%. Here are some example Druid Conduits that we datamined:
      Utility Conduits
Continuing Stampede - When Stampeding Roar ends, it continues to increase movement speed by 10% for 8 sec. Controlled Affinity - The cooldowns of Typhoon, Maim, Incapacitating Roar, and Ursol's Vortex are reduced by 10%. High Winds - Cyclone leaves the target reeling, reducing their movement speed by 50% for 6 sec. Throughput Conduits
Trinary Efflux - Every third Starsurge deals 30% increased damage. Star Shower - Starfall extends the duration of your active Moonfires on enemies within the area by 4 sec. Chase the Sun - Entering Solar Eclipse increases the damage and Astral Power generation of your next Wrath by 50%. Dark Star - During Lunar Eclipse, Starfire has a 20% chance to Moonfire your primary target. Utility Conduits
Steel Leaves - Barkskin applies Ironfur, and its cooldown is reduced by 5 sec. Ethereal Shape - Soulshape reduces damage you take by 15%. Personal Growth - Your Regrowth's healing over time is increased by 200% on yourself. Master of Shapes - Gain 8% Dodge in Cat Form, 4% Armor in Bear or Moonkin Form, or 4% increased healing received in any other form. Note that the system has not been tested on Alpha yet, and many abilities have not been implemented (NYI). Below is a very ROUGH preview of Soulbind trees and we also included all abilities that were available.

We have some interesting statistics to take a look at today, as redditor Quasiwave created an infographic looking at population data for both factions, the most popular races and classes, as well as a (somewhat less relevant/accurate) "most commonly paired race/class combos" diagonal. There's not that much shocking info in there, with Blood Elves being staggeringly popular for the Horde and Night Elves and Humans for the Alliance, but it's interesting to see all the stats anyway.

Now, the numbers can never be exact (or even close to it), as Blizzard doesn't share that kind of data anymore, but Quasiwave took the next best thing, as the data was taken from Warcraft Realms and features 300,000 characters (not unique players).

Here's some more info on the methods used by the author himself and you can check out the reddit thread for even more statistics debate on the methods used, whether it's a realistic representation, and just how accurate or not those diagonal boxes are.
