Our next Heroes of the Storm patch has just hit the Public Test Realm and will be available for playtesting until the week of March 25. As always, if you encounter any bugs during your PTR play sessions, please stop by the PTR Bug Report forum to let us know about your experiences.

General

  • The cap on maximum negative Armor has been increased from -25 to -75, now that different Armor effects no longer stack
    • Developer Comment: The negative Armor cap was originally instituted as a safety precaution so that stacking long term negative Armor effects wouldn’t lead to degenerate gameplay. We don’t anticipate many effects to go beyond -25, but there are a few cases where this can happen (including the new Unraveling Talent on Chromie and Sgt. Hammer’s Shrapnel Mines).
  • Hero Roles Update
    • Updated roles include: Tank, Bruiser, Support, Healer, Melee Assassin, and Ranged Assassin
    • For more information, please review our blog here
  • Loot chests are no longer available for Gem purchase
  • Rare loot chests are now available for Gold purchase (3000 each)

New Event: Caldeum Complex

Welcome to the Caldeum Arcopolis, 2103 AD. A city bought and sold a hundred times over, now giant Mega Corporations hold more sway in the ever-shifting politics of the world than governments. Down on the rain slicked streets, humans, mutants, machines and synthetics all struggle to find their place in the light of the neon glow beneath the towering monuments to capitalism lording over them.

With such oppression, the common people often turn to a life of crime. The leader of one of the largest gangs, the Azure Dragons, goes by the nickname, Chromie. Both a hacker and an anti-corporate street artist, many have said her work has an almost prophetic quality, as if she sees through time itself. The corporate media would have you believe she uses her gang of hackers to illegally ensure her prophecies become true, but lately her work has turned dark, as if she’s seen a cataclysmic force on the horizon…

Recently, the Dragons have found an ally in the Onyx Turtles. While it’s rare to see the gangs working together, as the noose of systemic oppression has grown tighter, those in the underbelly of the mega-city have had to find new ways to survive. Kharazim and his Turtles are a harder sort of stock than most, with many known gladiators and street fighters serving in the ranks. This new alliance has provided the Azure dragons a strong defense against threats in the physical world.

High above, the Jigoku Cybenetics Corporation, a primary manufacturer of mechanical augmentations, has become a target of both groups. In the mean streets, human enhancement has become one of the few options left to move the playing field more into the favor of those willing to bend the law. But their efforts have not gone unnoticed, and any who would dare to impugn the honor of Jigoku find themselves in the sights of the CyberOni, Jigoku’s elite agents: merciless killers at the beck and call of their bureaucratic masters.

Developer Comment: Lúcio’s rework is unlocking some new ways to help your allies and further harass your enemies! His old Trait, Wall RideWall Ride, is still completely functional but has been moved to his Mount (Z). The replacement Trait, Push Off, is a new utility Ability that gives Lúcio more mobility with a built-in way to peel enemies for his allies.

That is just the beginning, though, as Lúcio has also gained a new Heroic Ability—High Five. This Ability allows him a small bit of burst healing to help compete with Sound BarrierSound Barrier while also granting an on-demand Unstoppable buff to allies that may have bitten off more than they can chew. If you were a big fan of Reverse AmpReverse Amp, no need to worry, it stays on his kit in the form of a talent and has similar functionality! In response to the added power, we are slowing him down a little so he is not quite as frustrating to lock down.

Developer Comment: Our goal with this Chromie update is to create various degrees of success that Chromie can enjoy, so that she doesn’t feel like quite the same all-or-nothing mage that she’s historically been. Traditionally, Chromie has often required a hard counter to keep her in check or completely wrecked an opposing team, creating polarizing experiences.

We’re instituting a lot of changes that allow Chromie to get partial success with her Abilities (multiple Sand BlastSand Blasts baseline, 3 blasts of Dragon's BreathDragon's Breath), while also widening her toolkit (friendly Stasis, Basic Attack damage, PvE damage). While we’re diversifying her kit, we also want to make sure that Chromie feels special, and we think that her Sand Echoes and predictive gameplay with Dragon's BreathDragon's Breath are still unique parts of her that embody the feeling of artillery mage while still having moments of counter play for opponents.

Lunara

1U37XPUPQZR01552928296439.png

Talents

  • Level 4
    • Blossom SwellBlossom Swell (Q)
      • Movement Speed bonus reduced from 15% to 12%
      • This Movement Speed bonus now stacks with other Movement Speed bonuses

Developer Comment: Due to Lunara’s unique Movement Speed mechanics, our recent update to Blossom SwellBlossom Swell was not as beneficial to Lunara as we had hoped. To address this, we are slightly reducing its bonus but allowing it to stack with other Movement Speed bonuses, including Lunara’s trait, which should dramatically increase the total Movement Speed that she gets from this talent.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where the healing nameplate UI would be hidden when the total equals 0.
  • Fixed an issue where broadcasts would sometimes appear twice when sent.

Really unexpected reworks. I was also expecting a more traditional event, so I'm pretty happy they created a new whole lore-based event; this will be fun!

I can't wait for the reveal regarding the new Hero, which obviously will be Anduin due the datamining.

FINALLY a good looking Chromie skin!! Butcher looks also nice, Kharazim could have been replaced by another Hero for a news skin but I won't complain.

looking forward to the event. Looks promising!

If ideas like preferred roles took this long to get implemented, you gotta wonder how much bottlenecking of ideas went around the heroes team before the cataclysm.

Hmm, Chromie rework is interesting.  Now it seems pretty easy to dodge her Q as it hits the minions and stops.  Just shield yourself like you would against Stitches hooks.

Didn't expect another Chromie rework, once again she's going to be almost like a different hero (although a strong one, as it appears). Not sure about Lucio, he was pretty good but lacked a talent diversity, perhaps didn't need that big of a rework. Anyhow, skins and this event's art are looking pretty good (thought we were getting themes related to spring, it's nice they are sticking to something unrelated). Been a long time since Butcher had new skin, so it's always a welcome sight! Surprised Kharazim and Chromie have gotten even more skins, as there are still some heroes lacking skins since launch.

I am hyped about almost everything in this update.

Lúcio rework seems very fun to play, even with the nerfs to healing and movement speed. He finally got interesting and interactive talents. For all his mobility, the original Lúcio felt like a moving Healing TotemHealing Totem, with a occasional Storm ShieldStorm Shield. I am looking forward to testing a build based on the new trait + basic attacks.

THe new Chromie (new because it's basically a new hero) traded a lot of damage potential to playmaking and utility. It seems she won't be able to delete people by herself, but her talents allow to a lot of enabling and synergy.

The event seems cool, and all the skins are awesome, specially Chromie's and Anubarak. If anything the rewards for the event quests seems kinda small, but ok. I's rather they focused on the reworks and skins anyway.

What I REALLY liked was this one:

I wonder if that stacks with other CDR talents and abilities, such as Deckard Cain's Fortitude of the FaithfulFortitude of the Faithful, Mephisto's Lord Of HatredLord Of Hatred and stuff like Alarak's Ruthless MomentumRuthless Momentum and Ana's Nano BoostNano Boost. If that talent does stack, I can see Ana + Chromie + Malthael becoming a meta trio.

Yeah, that sounds fun. However, I say try it out on the PTR, because it's unlikely to be implemented as it is on live servers. It's the definition of unbalanced. Why would a player ever pick a different talent on that tier, if not because you don't care about your team? Not to mention the OP synergies with other heroes, and mentioned above.

Nice! No more echo and Hearth back to full to TP back in 4 secs to the other side of the map bull either. ? This Chromie rework is sounding wonderful for all us playing against her ?❤️

I'm LOVING how deep they wrote out that lore for the event world. ❤️ That's awesome! I wonder if they have always done this for all the events they just don't usually publish the lore for us all to see too. Which if that's the case they should have been doing this with EVERY event and lore from the git-go. It makes me think of a very 'cyberpunk' type world. Or something like Battle Angel: Alita or ShadowRun. Which I LOVE that kind of stuff! As I'm sure most of us do, right? ?❤️

Oh boy, I tried new Lúcio on PTR, he might be the most fun hero to play in the history of the game. And now he can do thing more then area-healing.

I main damage Lúcio now, High-fiveing people to death.

As I've already said - this new balancing team does really weird things to some heroes.

Like Chromie is super useful in any composition and has all her weaknesses and downsides completely removed from the game.

And Lucio has become a super strong and super annoying  combination of Tracer and Kharazim.

I mean, selling skins is one thing (which are actually good in this event), but making Lucio jack-of-all-trades support/healer is what I can't understand. Some of the numbers will definitely change, but I can't find a reason why Lucio has to be so much stronger than other healers right now. Healers used to have counter-healers but this guy doesn't seem to have one. He is the one for other healers.

Lucio: has stun, 2 charge skills,15 sec cd unstoppable per hero, knockback, slow, damage, self-shields, mass shields.

Malfurion: well, I used to have ice block, but now it's gone

Lucio is obviously a first ban now, while Chromie is a ranged assassin and a support altogether.

Yeah, that is a bit sad. Lúcio is quite broken right now, and I'll be very surprised if he hits Live without a single nerf.

I said it before but chromie is dead after this update imagine that you hit a minion with Q and it stops here...

Btw this confuses me! Why they focus on skins...we had some while ago and now some new ones too while we already have too many skins and recolors...Hots needs more heroes I think people do more care about heroes than skins(we always see people who say when is next hero but nobody says where is next skin update!)

The old Chromie is dead. All hail the new Chromie, which is more fun to play as and less frustrating to play against.

(But I completely agree that Sand BlastSand Blast hitting minions and structures is kinda disappointing).

I think having it hit minions and structures is a fair tradeoff if it means she can now hit objectives with it. Playing chromie on BoE used to be depressing

Took a substantial break for many reasons (finishing thesis and graduating for my master's degree, grinding elsewhere- most notably Prestige Edition Bae'Sa along with other setbacks) came back and read about this whole "moving many devs out of HotS to other projects", how the game will be less "prioritized" (to put it lightly), no more HGC (the countdown for any game starts when there's no longer a competitive scene-tho they specifically stated about this year; even if it does return however, so many players/casters/streamers, many big names have already left and moved on to other things, I really don't know...), smaller cadence of updates and all that- and of course everything related to "HotS is dead now".

Seems to me not only they haven't slowed down but they're actually putting MORE WORK than before- like, we had 2 sets of Hero reworks last year (4 total) in total right? Or maybe 6 but I think it was 4. They've already matched that if not surpassed. When a game is still being developed (regardless if the changes are good or bad), it's always a good sign. Maybe Hero releases won't be as frequent but the other updates (balance changes, hot/bugfixes, events, skins, hero reworks etc) sure make you optimistic. I sure like this game and gonna go down with the ship (whenever that time may be).

Speaking of reworks, is that Chromie#2 or 3? Kinda lost count. I think she's up there with Arthas and Anub now- the HotS version of Ryze lul. And maybe FINALLY what she said in the teaser actually happened ("don't worry, this is gonna get nerfed")- after consequent buffs every second patch for God knows how long.

Other than that, really like how they brought in Orphea (the first original HotS hero) who, despite all the nerfs, still feels really strong (but not imbaOPbroken, hope they don't hit her much harder)- really want to see more of those. And read more comics too-loving the direction they're taking with the lore.

P.S. Here's a little something to celebrate my return; feels good to be back :)

Blessing of the Bronze is a bit counterintuitive as it should have been a teamwide debuf.

I mean, hearing "May the blessings of bronze be upon you" is not what you'd like hear in a moba.

That is her third rework. They did one a while ago which completely destroyed her (dropping her winrate by around 30%).

Yeah and even during her second rework, she had significant changes. She was very snowbally, when she had baseline damage stacking quest on her Q. Later, they removed damage stacking, reduced range of her abilities and bronze talons became part of her trait.
