2.6.6 PTR Has Ended - 14th Stash Tab Bug, Legendary Bugs and Fixes

Recommended Posts

The patch 2.6.6 (aka Season 18) PTR has come to an end and we're going to look over some addressed feedback from the blues and the big drama with a 14th stash tab appearing on the PTR.

Let's start with the 14th stash tab appearing and everyone getting excited, then it being reported, and then people getting upset anyone reported it because they thought if it went through to live as the bug that it was we'd get the tab anyway:

Meteorblade:

I’m sure everyone remembers the Stash Tab fiasco from Season 17 PTR / Live, where the number of extra tabs earnable was reduced from 9 to 5, meaning that the maximum possible Stash Tabs was increased to 13 (6 from D3+ROS, 2 from Necro DLC, 5 from Seasons)…
https://us.diablo3.com/en/blog/22976066/season-17-the-season-of-nightmares-begins-517-5-10-2019#pqol

The reasoning we were told was…

In addition, we encountered a lot of technical issues with increasing overall stash space for players. Unfortunately, as these issues caused significant degredation of the overall gameplay experience, we ultimately had to take a step back on this quality of life improvement and table it for now.

So, how come I just earned a 14th Stash Tab on the PTR…

Setting this expectation before it has any potential to be misconstrued or get out of hand.

This is a bug. The intended cap is 13. We have no plans to further increase stash space at this time.

...

StuRedman:

That actually would have made it much, much worse, assuming it wasn’t already a bug that was in for correction when I checked in on it (it was).

It’s very easy for us to “add stash tabs” in the visual, you-can-see-and-access on an individual basis sense (which is what you were seeing). It is an entirely different thing to add functional ones that won’t break the game once the patch goes live.

So no, adding a stash tab that hasn’t been prepared for that scenario would not have been a good thing, nor would it have magically solved the issues we’ve already gone on , at great length, about as to why this is not something we’re looking to add right now.

That hasn’t changed; if it does, we’ll communicate very clearly and intentionally about it.

Then it's on to the more interesting stuff regarding the new legendaries, namely:

  • Messerschmidt's ReaverMesserschmidt's Reaver (New Legendary Power:Reduce the remaining cooldown of one of your skills by 1 second when you slay an enemy),
  • Echoing FuryEchoing Fury (New Legendary Power:Slaying enemies engulfs the wielder into a Frenzy (Killing enemies increases your attack speed by 15% and movement speed by 5%. This effect stacks up to 5 times) and
  • The ExecutionerThe Executioner (New Legendary Power:Attacks will slay enemies with less than (5-10%) health).

The news is that the first two not proccing off of assists or pet kills, while not actually a bug, will be fixed so that they do trigger from those, while the third is actually intended to not work on followers.

Blizzard LogoMesserschmidt's Reaver, Echoing Fury (source)

We verified that Echoing Fury (and Messerschmidt’s Reaver) weren’t proccing off of kill assists or pet kills, after multiple reports received. While not explicitly a bug, we do agree that would make for better functionality for both items, so we’ll be making sure both apply when 2.6.6 goes to live.

Thanks for the reports and the feedback, guys!

Blizzard LogoThe Executioner (source)

To clarify, I assume you mean that the new ability on Executioner does not proc via the follower. Eirena should still be able to equip the item regardless.

This is actually intended, and not a bug. It was something we discussed internally and came to the conclusion that it would eliminate any kind of gearing choice (and arguably, Follower choice) for players. For now, we’d like to see how Executioner gets used among player builds regardless of Follower, as the intent wasn’t for it to become a Follower-specific addition.

And finally, the PTR closing post:

Blizzard LogoPTR Closing (source)

Yep, and we got a great amount of feedback. Not all of it will be able to be acted on for 2.6.6 (particularly if it was given in regards to something not new to this patch), but we’ve made several changes already as a result of community feedback.

I’ve also put the PTR forums into read-only mode until we need them again; this way you can reference any posts you (or I) made during PTR indefinitely.

Yeah good thing Executioner won't work on follower cuz only Enchantress can use it so templar and scoundrel would become useless.

Ye, that was exactly their point, and boy am I happy I won't have to use her (I can't do without my Templar healing and chargind and repeating his 4 lines in my ear endlessly).

I don't get it why they don't introduce more competitive diversity. Something like, class specific 2-3-4 man leader boards, or a "no class specific items" league (especially now that we have LoD gem). They made every effort for D3 not to be lucrative, so that can't be the reason.

We're dealing with Monks in this week's Challenge Rift, so check out the video guides for a smooth clear!
      EU Challenge Rift 145
Ignore Mantra of Salvation and Cyclone Strike; both abilities are a waste of spirit. Use Sweeping Wind when you enter the rift and again if you die. Keep channeling Tempest Rush from the moment you enter the rift until you are out, use Epiphany on cooldown so that you don't run out of spirit. Use Blinding Flash on the Rift Guardian.
For the layout and more tips check out Mnemonic's video below.
      US Challenge Rift 145
Spam Breath of Heaven and Epiphany whenever they are up. Note that using Epiphany will teleport you to the target. Never use Mantra of Salvation or Wave of Light. Dash to monsters and use Crippling Wave (spirit generator) to punch them.
Check out the video below by Raxxanterax for more details about this week's Challenge Rift!

In this week's Challenge Rift, we're dealing with the new Wizard Hydra set.
      EU Challenge Rift 144
Use Storm Armor and Familiar at the beginning of the rift to buff up.
Black Hole should be used on Elites and to stack up enemies. Teleport around and let HydraArcane Hydras do the work. You always want to have up five hydras.
For the layout and additional tips check out Mnemonic's video below.
      US Challenge Rift 144
At the beginning of the rift, activate your Magic WeaponConduit and Storm ArmorScramble.
Activate Slow TimeTime Warp on Elites. You can use TeleportWormhole twice within a short time frame, so make sure to use that for moving around efficiently.
Black HoleAbsolute Zero should be used to gather up enemies, otherwise, just summon Hydras.
Check out the video below by Raxxanterax for more details about this week's Challenge Rift!

The first Challenge Rift of Season 20 has arrived and we have a Barbarian utilizing the new Frenzy set in both regions.
      EU Challenge Rift 143
Activate Battle Rage for more damage and War Cry for more toughness when you enter the rift. Immediately start attacking mobs to get the 5 stacks of Frenzy going. You need to maintain them which is not that hard, just keep attacking. Use Furious Charge to move around. Try to utilize the Shield Pylon from the first floor up to the fourth where the mob type deals less damage.
For the layout and additional tips check out Mnemonic's video below.
      US Challenge Rift 143
The Flavor of Time is going to double the duration of your pylons and Bane of the Powerful provides a damage-increasing buff after killing an elite pack. When killing yellow elites, it means you must defeat all their minions too for it to trigger.
You activate Wrath of the BerserkerInsanity, Threatening ShoutIntimidate, and War CryImpunity all the time. Battle RageBloodshed should be cast just twice because the buff lasts long.
Other than that, you use Furious Charge to move around and fish for Elite packs and keep 10 stacks of Frenzy up.
Check out the video by Raxxanterax for the layout of this week's Challenge Rift.

With the current server issues still affecting EU players, we've put together a quick tutorial on how to start Diablo 3 without ever needing to open the Battle.net client!
As many of you have most likely already noticed, with barely any time left to go until the start of Season 20 in Diablo 3 for EU players, there are currently issues with the Battle.net app for a large number of players, regardless of which game they are hoping to play.
While WoW players can simply boot up using the .exe file in their program files, things are slightly more difficult for Diablo players, as the .exe file will normally just start up the Battle.net app.
To avoid this problem and log into Diablo despite the ongoing issues, follow the steps below:
Create a shortcut to your Diablo .exe file (not the launcher .exe). You should use the 64-bit version in /x64 if you normally use this version. Go into the properties of the shortcut and edit the shortcut target. Add " -launch" to the end of it, including the space at the start, but without quotation marks. Save your changes and use the shortcut - Diablo 3 will start up shortly afterwards. You will need to log in with your account details and, if you have an Authenticator, you will need to enter the code manually. Make sure to double check the region you are logging into with the options menu on the log-in screen. While this method is not perfect, it should get you into the game in time for the new season! There are a few issues that you may run into, which can be solved as follows:
My game is taking too long to load. This is completely normal when booting in this manner, just let the game load up. If it is taking a really long time, you may be trying to start up the wrong version of Diablo (32-bit vs. 64-bit). The 64-bit version can be found in /x64. My game stopped responding. Go into Task Manager and end any Battle.net or Diablo 3 launcher tasks. These cause it to stop working/stop loading. I never downloaded the latest patch. Unfortunately, this method only works if your game is up-to-date. It will not let you into the game if you need to download a patch. Once your game is up and running, make sure to check out our updated class guides for Season 20!

The Season of Forbidden Archives and its free-for-all Kanai's Cube slot usage is upon us today and it's time to check out what all classes have to offer in our build guide roundup! Most players will probably be focusing on Barbarian, Witch Doctor and Wizard, with the WD getting it's most powerful build to date, and despite those three classes getting the biggest changes and most new toys to play with,  there's plenty of interesting and powerful builds for the other classes as well.

You can also check out the most recent balance patch notes here or check out the Season 20 group meta, solo and speedfarming rankings.

Aside from the new Frenzy build based on the new set, the best Barbarian group build also got a big boost this season, as it's using the 2 part bonus from Horde of the Ninety Savages as well as the new season's power.

The Necromancer has has a big shakeup at the top, with the Support build rising to the very top in Season 20 thanks to the season power, and the second best build, Poison Nova LoD, also being possible only thanks to the Forbidden Archives buff and using 3 weapons in the Cube.

Witch Doctors got the best deal this season, with another top tier entry in their build lists, as the new Mundunugu set performs very well, as the two Carnevil Posion Darts and Soul Harvest builds stay at the top as well.
Carnevil Poison Dart Witch Doctor (Zunimasa + Aughild's Authority + Endless Walk) Speed Farming Variation Carnevil Poison Dart LoD Witch Doctor (Legacy of Dreams Gem) (Top Tier) Soul Harvest Witch Doctor (Jade Harvester) (Top Tier) Speed Farming Variation Spirit Barrage Witch Doctor (Mundunugu + Endless Walk) (Top Tier) (New) Speed Farming Variation Spirit Barrage Witch Doctor (Legacy of Dreams Gem) (High Tier) Speed Farming Variation Group Progression Variation Firebats Witch Doctor (Arachyr + Endless Walk) (High Tier) Speed Farming Variation Group Progression Variation Gargantuan Zunimasa Witch Doctor (Zunimasa + Endless Walk) (Mid Tier) Speed Farming Variation Gargantuan Helltooth Witch Doctor (Helltooth + Endless Walk) (Mid Tier) Speed Farming Variation Zombie Bears Witch Doctor (Helltooth + Endless Walk) (Low Tier) Speed Farming Variation Acid Cloud Witch Doctor (Helltooth + Bastions) (Low Tier) Speed Farming Variation Grasp of the Dead Witch Doctor (Helltooth + Endless Walk) (Low Tier)

Wizrds are the only ones this season to get the two new builds, Hydra-based ones, and the LoD version is a contender for the best build yet, but they did also lose their top build for a long time, with the Bazooka Wiz finally going down after many nerfs.
Archon Wizard (Vyr + Chantodo) (Top Tier) Speed Farming Variation Mammoth Hydra Wizard (Legacy of Dreams Gem) (Top Tier) (New) Frost Hydra Wizard (Typhon's Veil) (High Tier) (New) Meteor Wizard (Firebird + Endless Walk) (High Tier) Speed Farming Variation Tal Rasha Variation Star Pact Variation Frozen Orb Wizard (Delsere + Endless Walk) (High Tier) Energy Twister Wizard (Delsere + Endless Walk) (High Tier) Manald Lightning Archon Wizard (Tal Rasha + Vyr) (Mid Tier) Group Progression Variation Solo Progression Variation Archon Wizard (Firebird + Chantodo + Endless Walk) (Mid Tier) Speed Farming Variation Arcane Torrent Manald Wizard (Tal Rasha + Endless Walk) (Mid Tier) Electrocute Variation Spectral Blade Variation Arcane Orbit Wizard (Delsere + Endless Walk) (Low Tier) Speed Farming Variation Explosive Blast Farming Wizard (Tal Rasha + Sage) (Low Tier) Greater Rifting Variation
