Patch 8.2 and Classic Hotfixes: August 27th

Recommended Posts

This one's a little weird as Blizzard have decided to include Classic hotfixes in with the modern 8.2 ones - which is hopefully just a temporary thing as this is the first Classic hotfix ever. In any case, the Classic fix is the already announced change to how realm populations are displayed, while 8.2 has fixes for M+ Siege of Boralus, a whole lot of item fixes, including Leviathan's Lure no longer breaking CC and some added red text for classes that can't use the Rank 4 essences from Queen Azshara. We also get a size increase for the Siltwing Albatross mount.

Dungeons and Raids

  • Siege of Boralus
    • Corrected an error during Mythic Keystone Dungeon instances that caused a pack of enemies to not appear in Upton Borough if the World Quest “Siege of Boralus: Breaking the Alliance ” was active.

  • Fixed an issue that prevented Dribbling Inkpod Dribbling Inkpod from inflicting damage on targets under crowd control effects or that were not in line of sight.
  • Anu-Azshara, Staff of the Eternal Anu-Azshara, Staff of the Eternal’s Potency buff should now respect line of sight.
  • Leviathan's Lure Leviathan's Lure should no longer break enemies out of crowd control effects.
  • The Map to the Last Worldvein Map to the Last Worldvein no longer shows up as a quest reward when finishing the weekly Island Expedition quests “Azerite for the Alliance ” or “Azerite for the Horde .” The item will still have the same chance to come from the quest as it does now.
  • The Rank 4 Essence items that drop from Mythic Queen Azshara (Vitality Conduit Vitality Conduit and Azeroth's Undying Gift Azeroth's Undying Gift) now display red text for classes that cannot use them.
    • Developers’ note: This should help Mythic raiders who wish to trade an Essence to a different player verify that it’s compatible with that character’s class.

WoW Classic

  • Realm populations are now measured against a realm’s absolute capacity.
    • Developers’ note: This system now measures each realm against a realm’s absolute capacity. Medium indicates a healthy total population on a realm—well in excess of what we considered Full in 2006—with room for more players to log-in. You’ll now see a High label if the realm is close to having a queue, and a Full label if the realm currently has a queue.

Previous hotfixes.

To be fair, it's less a hotfix, more a clarification, and could be a tweet or blue post on a forum rather than mentioned as it's own hotfix. If they were making changes to things like with the 8.2 items etc, then yeah it's own hotfix / patch notes would be worthwhile.

Also may affect both retail and classic? (are there any full retail servers when classic isn't about?)

I'm still waiting for fixes on Waycrest Manor................2nd week in a row where I gotten a "surprise" pack of mobs rushing from the basement to the courtyard.  (10+ and up keys)  Or when you are LoS the Void Emissary and still take dmg from her cast.

It's more Covenant ability tuning on the beta, as Rogues get the Venthyr Slaughter/Flagellation ability changed significantly.
      Rogue Changes September 23 (source)
With updates coming soon to the Shadowlands Beta, we’re updating the Venthyr ability for rogues. It will now be called Flagellation (was previously Slaughter).
Flagellation is an instant cast with a 25 second cooldown that starts once Flagellation is removed from the target. The rogue lashes the target with Anima 3 times, dealing Shadow damage and applying a debuff for 45 seconds that causes an additional lash for each Combo Point you spend. Once the target has been lashed at least 25 times, reactivating Flagellation cleanses their torment and increases your Mastery by 10% for 25 seconds.
We’re looking forward to your feedback on this, once you’ve had a chance to test it out!

Blizzard made some changes to Devouring Plague to ensure subsequent applications of the spell will cause its damage over time effect to add into the existing DoT, so that there's no wasted damage.
Recently, we changed Fae Guardians to apply to your selected target on cast, to help address some usability problems. In this most recent Shadowlands build, there is now also a conduit available that allows you to replicate additional Faeries onto your party. This redesigned conduit is aimed at addressing the feedback (particularly from Discipline and Holy Priests) that it feels punishing to cast healing spells while the Faeries are active.
Over the last few weeks, we’ve also added some notable changes to the Shadow priest.
In some situations, the Priest may want to spend Insanity by casting two Devouring Plagues on the same target in a short time. This can cause a situation where damage in the DoT can be wasted. To address this, we’ve made a change where subsequent Devouring Plagues will cause its damage over time effect to add into the existing DoT. Players may notice how this functionality is similar to the Mage Ignite mechanic.
We’re also introducing a new talent to replace Legacy of the Void: Hungering Void. The intent with this talent similar to Legacy of the Void – to be ideal in situations where the Priest focuses on a single target.
Additionally, we’re changing Void Torrent to apply Devouring Plague when cast, rather than refreshing the existing Devouring Plague on the target.
We really appreciate your thoughts and feedback – and thank you for testing!

Mages get some significant tweaks to the Mirrors of Torment Covenant ability, with the Venthyr singature spell becoming more consistent in PvE.
      Mage Changes September 23 (source)
In this week’s Shadowlands build, Mirrors of Torment has been updated with new functionality that grants you Brain Freeze, Fire Blast cooldown reduction, or Mana when a mirror is consumed based on your spec.
Mirrors of Torment will also now proc from auto attacks, but can only occur once every 6 seconds.
The goal with these changes is to giveMirrors of Torment a little more consistent PvE throughput and not just being a niche PvP ability for those Mages looking to join the Venthyr.

It's Warlock time as Covenant abilities Soul Rot and Decimating Bolt get tweaked!
Warlock Changes for September 23 (source)
This week, Soul Rot has had its health cost removed, while retaining a minor mana cost. Additionally, the primary target of your Soul Rot will now take increased damage compared to the secondary targets.
Decimating Bolt has been tweaked to help balance out some talent choices that could greatly swing the value of this ability. For Affliction Warlocks with Drain Soul talented, Decimating Bolt will now only affect your next Drain Soul (was previously your next three). Destruction Warlocks with Fire and Brimstone chosen will have the bonus damage value reduced. For Demonology Warlocks, the buff has been altered to affect your next Shadow Bolt or Demonbolt (rather than just Shadow Bolt).
In an upcoming build, the buff will only interact with Demonbolt for Demonology Warlocks.
