A New Leveling Experience Awaits in WoW Shadowlands

Exile's Reach is a new 1-10 area intended for fresh characters in WoW Shadowlands. All new players will need to play through it and the zone culminates in a two-boss mini-dungeon. Veteran players can opt out of the new starting experience and begin at level 1 in the starting area for their race.

After reaching level 10, you can either continue into Battle for Azeroth or speak to Chromie and pick a previous expansion before entering Shadowlands at level 50. 

Note that Death Knights and Demon Hunters will begin at level 8 in Shadowlands and you can find more details here.

Adventure awaits in Azeroth in an all-new starting experience arriving with Shadowlands. Available to both veteran players and new, this introductory excursion is a great way to begin forging your path through the world.

An expedition has gone missing, and you have been called to be a part of a new crew of novice adventurers charged with discovering what’s become of them. As with many such journeys, you’ll find yourself as part of a crew aboard a ship bound to their last known location. When things take a turn for the worse, you’ll make landfall on the island of Exile’s Reach.

It’s here that you’ll begin to face the challenges the island presents, each increasing in difficulty as you work your way through your first 10 levels. As you progress, you’ll begin to learn more about using the new skills and abilities at your disposal.

At the culmination of your adventure, you’ll face two new bosses in a “mini-dungeon” designed for 1 to 5 players.

Learning New Skills

This new experience is carefully crafted to teach you a variety of skills needed to be successful in Azeroth and beyond.

As you make your way through Exile's Reach, you’ll learn all about the fundamentals of playing World of Warcraft, while also diving into some of the most important mechanics for your chosen class. Warriors will learn the essentials of a good Charge; Rogues will go through the gauntlet of proper use of combo points; while Hunters will learn how to tame and stable their pets.

Along the way, you’ll encounter new allies in Exile's Reach who are willing to teach you more abilities for your class. Paladins will encounter the ghost of a former paladin willing to teach them Divine Shield, while Monks will receive guidance through meditation to learn Touch of Death.

These fundamentals are the building blocks you’ll need to take on the many challenges waiting in Azeroth, and will help you along the path to success—wherever your adventure takes you.

For New Players

If you’re new to World of Warcraft and have never created or leveled a character, you will automatically begin your journey into Azeroth with the starting experience—helping you learn the basics of your class and the fundamentals of interacting with the world you’ve become a part of.

After completing the adventure, you’ll move into Battle for Azeroth, where you’ll be able to level through the expansion to level 50 before moving on into the Shadowlands.

For Veteran Players

If you’re a veteran player or you’ve leveled a character before, you can choose to opt out of the starting experience and begin instead at level 1 in the starting area for your race. Upon reaching level 10, you can either continue into Battle for Azeroth or speak with Chromie to choose the expansion that you’d like to continue leveling in before you enter Shadowlands at level 50. Players with Allied race characters, Death Knights and Demon Hunters will automatically begin at level 10 and play through their own starting experience.

      One of the cinematics that got us most hyped for its expansion when it first showed up, WoD's upgrade makes it even more impressive! SnazzyAI continues the WoW cinematic improvements, and it's now Warlords' time to both shine and get smoothed out! While the 4K upgrade looks great in its own right, it's the 48 FPS that's the bigger difference here, especially with the orc facial animations.

      It seems the pre-patch keeps bringing us new Scourge invasion-like oddities, despite the event not starting yet! The squish/scaling hits again, this time uncomfortably mimicking the real world, as we have another possible outbreak! This one isn't quite as lethal as the original Corrupted Blood epidemic, and it's a lot harder to spread, but there's still fun/mayhem to be had.
      The actual disease isn't anything new and has bee around a long time, as BlazingShadowAU and their group were doing ICC and when they were done they returned to the Great Seal, where people started dying all around them. They accidentally brought back Necrotic Plague, and the initial outbreak didn't quite last long as the disease isn't nearly as deadly as the old-school Corrupted Blood. However, if you have a group determined to have some fun with it...

      So, Necrotic Plague works differently since the pre-patch, as it apparently scales up quite a bit, to the point of 1-shotting players! Unfortunately this didn't quite work everywhere, and the Orgrimmar fields of Corrupted Blood death were not to be, with the main casualty in Org being the innkeeper and a few players. But, there was a better target available, as the scaling in BfA and Legion was quite deadly.
      It still took some effort, as the plague is on a 15 second timer and keeping the stacks high was part of the fun as it made it deadlier. And to do that you have to spread it to someone by dying, come back and get infected again by someone who has survived - and the higher the stacks get, the harder that is to pull off because players die faster and faster! Dispelling the disease also spreads it, but removes a stack, so there was probably a better way to get this done.
      In the end, the outbreak was limited to just a bit of fun in the Great Seal, as that's where the scaling was highest, and the close-by rez spot made spreading the plague easier.
      Unfortunately the reddit video embeds are still not working properly, but definitely head on over there and check out the full video!

      The stacks were getting pretty high at the end there!

      And so the group had a little bit of fun and there wasn't a full outbreak, with the Lich King's power growing a lot as players were dying all over the place and spreading the disease (perhaps if Bolvar had access to this, we wouldn't be in this whole Shadowlands mess to begin with). The pre-patch certainly continues to deliver on the weirdness, and we can't wait to see what it shows us next!

      The first Mythic Ny'alotha nerfs have arrived in the Shadowlands pre-patch. Blizzard reduced the health of enemies and nerfed Carapace of N'Zoth. More details will appear in today's hotfix update.

      Late yesterday, we made the following adjustments to Ny’alotha on Mythic difficulty:
      Damage and health of all enemies reduced 10%. Carapace of N’Zoth Infinite Void damage reduced by 50% per stack, Black Scar damage reduced by 10%, and Mandible Slam damage reduced by 25%. These hotfixes are live, and will appear in our next hotfixes update.

      Learn more about how to reach Exalted with the Gelkis and Magram Centaur Clans in Desolace under an hour!
      If you're working on the 100 Exalted Reputations achievement and are still missing some reputations for the title and Pureheart Courser mount, we've got some good news for you!

      It's possible to reach Exalted with Gelkis and Magram Centaur Clans in Desolace under an hour. Note that both reputations count as one.
      If you completed the quests in Desolace before Cataclysm, you must complete a series of quests which take about an hour up to Death to Agogridon. Pick all quests in the surrounding area to get started. Don't forget to toggle the filter on your minimap to see quests that are below your level.
      If you completed the quests up to Death to Agogridon post-Cataclysm, talk to Karnum Marshweaver at 57, 48 who will provide you with enough reputation to reach Exalted with both factions.
