Patch 8.3 Hotfixes: May 19th

Recommended Posts

Today's hotfixes detail the new Corruption Vendor aka MOTHER and her Preserved Contaminants, specifically reminding us about the item list resetting twice a week along with Assaults.

Items and Rewards

  • Echoes of Ny'alotha
    • MOTHER now offers several Preserved Contaminants, a new item to purchase with Echoes of Ny’alotha. Preserved Contaminants allow for a specific Corruption effect to be applied to any uncorrupted item that can be Corrupted or any items that have been cleansed after this week’s restart. The inventory of available Preserved Contaminants will change twice each week, mirroring the Assault cadence, and will cycle through all available Corruption effects at various levels of potency.

With all the new Corruption and other changes live, it's hard to keep track of everything, so we've updated our Echoes of Ny'alotha guide with the new prices, the Corrupted Items guide has been updated with a list of Corruption Effects currently on sale by MOTHER, and our Legendary Cloak guide received tweaks based on the recent catch-up mechanic.

Anyone else have a family member or friend who learns a new word, then uses it constantly in every sentence possible, appropriate or not?

Like Blizzard and "cadence" in the last year.......

The new transmog set from the Blizzard store, which you can get with a 6-month subscription or for $20 in their own has been quite the controversial topic for many reasons, and it seems players are voicing their disapproval even on the announcement video itself. The Sprite Darter's Wings have been the topic of many discussions on the forums and reddit, as players talk about the merit/slippery slope of posting this type of item in the cash shop only, even if it is bundled with a subscription.
As spotted by verdict0224 the video itself has 17,000 dislikes and 2,500 likes at the moment, but that may also be due to some players not being big fans of the look itself, or even the video content as well. However, it is most likely the disproportionately large dislike ratio is due to the cash shop nature of the transmog, especially since many players have been assuming the set was supposed to be part of this year's cancelled BlizzCon Virtual Ticket.

The video seems to be the single most disliked official WoW video, or at the very last one with the biggest dislike to like ratio, and it's only been out for 1 day.
In any case, this definitely wasn't a popular move by Blizzard, spawning many Activision and Bobby Kotick as Gallywix memes as well. But, obviously there are also plenty of players that enjoy the set and those that had the 6-month subscription anyway, so as always there's no real consensus to be had.

Blizzard has again changed the Experience required per level on the Shadowlands Beta this week.
This is the second adjustments in a row. Previously, players had issues reaching max level, so the XP requirements were drastically reduced in last week's Build 36206, but they went overboard it seems, so they increased the XP required to hit levels in the 50-60 range again.
      Level Range Old XP Requirements New XP Requirements 50-51 177190 194030 51-52 194600 212870 52-53 205465 225770 53-54 272185 240255 54-55 228005 255180 55-56 239680 272795 56-57 251625 291495 57-58  263840 311490 58-59  276325 332165 59-60 289080 353410

After a short kind-of break last week due to the pre-patch launch we pre back with bigger Shadowlands beta updates. This week we have a Renown interface improvement, Souldbind changes, and Torghast Vendor additions.
      Dev Notes (source)
This week’s Shadowlands Beta build includes several notable updates that are now ready for testing.
      Renown User Interface
This UI has been revamped. It is no longer attached to your Reservoir UI NPC. It now has its own dedicated NPC in your Sanctum. It should be much clearer now what your past and upcoming rewards are, and some rewards on the Renown track have been put in more appropriate places.
Talents have also been reorganized, and players will find that in most cases, the talent that was previously the final ability is now the starter ability.
In cases where that didn’t happen, the existing talents have been tuned to match the a more-expected power level.
      Ve’nari Torghast Items
Ve’nari in the Maw now sells several items that serve as meta-progression for Torghast. You can buy the items and use them, but they aren’t functional in this build. We expect to have all of this functioning as expected in next week’s build.
Thank you very much for your testing and feedback.

There's no Archaeology in Shadowlands, which means the dwarf Explorer racial will be useless when it comes to the secondary Profession and the new zones.
Explorer makes the dwarf find more fragments when looting archaeological finds and also increases surveying speed. The only problem is that Archaeology, as we know it on Azeroth, does not exist in the Shadowlands, and you'll find out by talking to Researcher Au'daluk in Oribos.

Do you think Blizzard should replace the racial with a more functional one in the new expansion or do you not mind at all given that it still applies to old expansions where Archaeology was present? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

A fresh batch of Shadow Priest changes has been just announced by Blizzard.
As some of you know, we’ve made adjustments to Shadow Priests lately to balance their damage, as heavy iteration on the specialization led to some things getting out of alignment. In this week’s new Beta build, we’ve made more adjustments.
At the same time, we saw that some of the Insanity reductions from last week hurt the flow of the rotation, so we’ve reverted some of those. We also want to make sure that Mind Blast feels important to use over Mind Flay.
      This week’s changes include:
Dark Thoughts duration increased to 10 seconds (was 6 seconds). Developers’ notes: We’ve also decreased Dark Thoughts’s max stacks to 1, as 5 felt excessive. We are open to feedback about how this feels, as always. Mind Blast generates 8 Insanity (was 7). Mind Flay damage reduced by 15%. Developers’ notes: Shadow was proving too powerful in single target situations. This helps address that while still allowing Mind Blast to feel impactful. Mind Sear damage reduced by 15%. Devouring Plague initial hit reduced by 15%, and periodic damage reduced by ~12%. Auspicious Spirits generates 2 Insanity (was 1). Damage reduced to 15% (was 30%). Developers’ notes: This to differentiate it more from Psychic Link. Auspicious Spirits should be about getting more Devouring Plague, while Psychic Link is better at spread damage. Searing Nightmare once again costs 30 Insanity (was 35). Developers’ notes: There is some gameplay value in getting 3 Searing Nightmare s in a row when pooling Insanity, so we decided to revert this change. Thank you for all of your testing and feedback.
