Diablo 3 Season 21 Theme/Power Might Get Modified

Recommended Posts

Update: It seems (at least part of) the change being talked about is, as we presumed, being able to disable the seasonal power during set dungeons, and presumably also disable it in general, as community manager PezRadar commented on a reddit thread:

Blizzard LogoDisabling the Seasonal Power (source)

Disable elemental powers in set dungeon runs?

Expect this change soon.

    ____________________________________________________

So it seems we'll be seeing some changes to the somewhat controversial seasonal power for S21, as community manager FilthieRich said the team was tracking user comments and feedback on the topic and they'd have some updates to share soon.

The change we're most likely to see and that the post is probably referring to is the fact that some players find the power distracting and not impactful enough, especially on the topic of it messing up your set dungeons clears, so we're likely to see some sort of toggle to disable it. Alternatively there might be a bigger revamp coming, perhaps tuning ot changing the way the amount of mobs killed before each proc affect the damage, but we're only speculating at this point.

Chiming in to share that we have been reading into comments and feedback related to the Seasonal Theme. Working with the dev team now to prep for some updates to share w/ you. In the meantime, thanks a TON for all the patience. Ill y’all updated.

Man, I feel so bad for the diablo dev team, always getting crapped on, though at the same time, they essentially pushed out an idea that had tons of feedback on the ptr that was ignored. Ignored probably because they don't have the funds to course change (indy company lol).

The safest thing to do with seasonal themes is to tweak limitations to broaden creativity in builds and shake up metas. The Kanai Cube from last season was pretty good, same with the Ring of Royal Grandeur season. Let's not forget the awesome LoN season (that was so awesome they made a gem after it).

Pretty much this. The seasonal effects should be there to allow creativity in builds, not solo Rift Guardians. We could still have:

    • Set bonus season - rather than a free RoRG, make RoRG reduce by 2, so wear 4 pieces for a 6 set bonus.
    • Legendary gems - let them be socketed into things other than rings and amulets.
    • Free item - similar to free RoRG, give a free item, like everyone benefits from Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac. Imagine being able to just ignore CDR in multiple builds, like not having to push for CDR cap as a Crusader or DH. Could even put in set effects here, like the Endless Walk or Focus + Restrait set effects. Could also make it class specific - I mean, almost every DH needs Dawn, so give them Dawn effect for free - it frees up the weapon cube slot and lets us find alternatives.

These are just a few things, but there's a lot they could change or add to make things fun, but not break the game.

The biggest issue with seasons like this, or the massacre bonus season is that there's a really fine line between useless, well tuned, and overpowered when it comes to offensive abilities.

Maybe they should try to make a massacre bonus seasonal effect that's defensive based so it's much harder to exploit.

1 kill - Life increased by 1% for every kill as long as kill streak persists

20 kills - gain 10% dodge for as long as kill streak persists

50 kills - gain 10% all resist for as long as streak persists

100 kills - become invulnerable for 6 seconds

200, 300, 400 - become invulnerable for 6 seconds at each subsequent 100 kill streak

This would drastically increase the viability of going with a full blown glass canon build, while also not offering any way of 1 shotting the rift guard with the seasonal ability.

Things like this are so, so, so difficult to balance for leaderboards though. Obviously, that's a very small percentage of people affected, but something that is very useful to a solo player can be completely broken elsewhere. Imagine high defense buffs being rewarded for kill streaks in paragon farming groups. It would also make botting easier, since you give the bots an additional chance at staying alive, even when they mess up something a human wouldn't.

Personally, I think any season bonus HAS to be applied at character creation or build creation. Things that are impacted by how you play, in my opinion, will always have this backlash because of how difficult they are to get right.

    My biggest problems are:

That the breath is identical in color and animation to Orlash & friends.

That the meteor is identical in color and animation to Belial

I don't count on it being useful, much like the power circles from the other season, or when running a solo GR I don't count on my follower spawning the Oculus Ring in a useful spot.

I'd like to see the legendary one, but you'd have to exclude weapons/oh/shield in order to avoid punishing any 2H specs, and probably limit it to allowing it to be one socket each of the chest/legs can be a legendary.

And yes yes yes to the last one.

In fact, they could fix this entire Season of the Elements by making CoE the season buff.

Oh, for sure, there would definitely need to be restrictions in place and rules to make it fair for each class (especially in terms of free items, you can't give Demon Hunters free Dawn and then give Monks something that only really benefits 1 build).

Season 36: The Lords of Hell
Though the Black Soulstone has been destroyed, lingering fragments of The Lords of Hell once contained therein still persist in Sanctuary. These Soul Shards hold immense power—power that once belonged to the Prime and Lesser Evils. Cunning Nephalem who find and wield these Soul Stones must exercise caution. Power can be alluring, and the road to the Burning Hells is paved with good intentions...
First seen in Season 25, you can embrace evil by infusing yourself with the essences of Hell’s Lords using Soul Shards. Embark on your Season Journey to discover and upgrade demonic Soul Shards based on the seven Lords of Hell. By embodying a Prime and Lesser Evil, you will inflict new forms of pain and suffering on the demons of Sanctuary. We can't wait for you to get your hands on Soul Shards and start unlocking your true power.
Nephalem can find seven unique Soul Shards (based on the seven Lords of Hell), which give you new demonic powers. One of three Prime Evil Soul Shards can be equipped into Helms and one of four Lesser Evil Soul Shards can be equipped into Weapons. Each Soul Shard can be upgraded three times using a new seasonal-exclusive consumable, the Hellforge Ember.
Soul Shards and Hellforge Embers can drop from anywhere in Sanctuary, but Soul Shards have a higher chance to drop from Bosses. Soul Shards cannot be traded, but can be salvaged or utilized in Caldesann’s Despair. You may only equip one Prime Evil Soul Shard and one Lesser Evil Soul Shard at a time. Lastly, Soul Shards and Hellforge Embers only drop in Seasonal play, and will not transfer to your non-seasonal character when the season ends. Keep reading for a look into the capabilities for each of the Soul Shard powers.
        Prime Evil Soul Shards
        Sliver of Terror
Base Power: Your cooldowns are increased by 25%. For every skill on cooldown, you take 12.5% reduced damage and deal 12.5% increased damage. Additional Powers: Your attack speed and critical hit chance are increased by 5% for each skill on cooldown. You cast a devastating Ring of Fire after killing 100 enemies. If three or more skills are on cooldown, your lightning and fire skill damage are increased by 50%. Shard of Hatred
Base Power: You deal 15% reduced damage while you have 3 or fewer enemies within 25 yards. Additional Powers: Killing an elite enemy pulls all enemies within 40 yards to where the elite died. Your Movement speed is increased by 50%. Each enemy within 25 yards reduces your movement speed by 10% up to 70%. You now deal 10% increased damage for every enemy instead of 5% (to a maximum of 100%). Fragment of Destruction
Base Power: You move unhindered through enemies. Each enemy you pass through receives Mark of Destruction for 7 seconds. Marks are not applied if you are below 35% health. Additional Powers: You have a 25% Chance to restore 5% health when an enemy dies with Mark of Destruction active. Additional Powers: The pool of blood now negates Elite affixes within its area. You gain an additional Rift Progress Orb when you kill and elite pack. The pool of blood now collects Rift Progress Orbs. Dregs of Lies
Base Power: You deal 25% less damage. Your pets deal 25% increased damage. Additional Powers: Killing an elite enemy reduces all your active cooldowns by 5 seconds. On receiving fatal damage, spawn a shadow that prevents your death, restores your health to 35%, and grants +225 All Resist to all party members while it is active. The shadow only lasts 15 seconds. Each time your pet hits an enemy, your damage is increased by 0.5% for 5 seconds. This stacks up to 100 times. When you reach 100 stacks, the stacks quickly reset to 0. Remnant of Pain
Base Power: Your Critical Hit Chance is reduced by 15%. Attacks against Incapacitated enemies are automatically critical hits. Additional Powers: Hitting enemies with cold damage has a 50% chance to freeze them. Cold skill damage is increased to frozen targets by 20%. Gain passability while your movement speed bonus is over 50%. When you move through enemies you knock them back and stun them for 2 seconds. When you critically hit an enemy you increase the attack speed all players by 5% for 5 seconds. Max 10 stacks. Essence of Anguish
Base Power: Every time you deal poison damage to an enemy you increase your cooldown reduction and movement speed by 2.5% while your damage received is increased by 5% for 10 seconds. For an in-depth look at what’s coming, take a gander below. Also, Season 34 will officially come to an end on June 1.

Season 35 is the Season of Eternal Conflict and with it come an awesome array of killstreak rewards! Inspired by the war waged between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells, you‘ll earn increasingly powerful effects as you unleash destruction upon your foes. So rack up those kills and clear the battlefields in the name of Sanctuary!
All players will benefit from the Pandemonium bonus during Season 35. For each stack of this buff, you’ll receive a small boost to movement speed and bonus damage, ultimately capping out at 50% movement speed and 100% damage at 1000 stacks. In addition, reaching certain killstreak goals will trigger a special effect and cause even more mayhem on the battlefield:

With the killstreak mechanic, we can make sure the benefit is always traveling with you and something you won’t have to constantly reposition for. There’s still more room for exploration and innovation in the future, and in the meantime, we challenge you to push these killstreaks to their limits and discover its ultimate reward! We think you’ll find it devilishly delightful.

Blizzard have moved the launch of Season 34 back a week!
While it was supposed to start today, Blizzard cite players not wanting the new D3 and D4 season launches to overlap on the same week, and needing more time to get the season properly set up, as the previous one ended early.

        Hi all
We have shifted the start for the new season of Diablo III to next week. This is due to a few items:
We received a good amount of feedback that many didn’t want overlap with the first weekend of Diablo IV’s new season. We agree so we are building out that gap and will be more mindful of that going forward.
This will help us properly ensure account states migrate over as we had an issue with the prior season rolling early and us having to kick things back on.
You can find the exact times on our Season 34 blog.

Blizzard has posted an official preview of Diablo 3's upcoming Season 34 that starts on January 24!
The ongoing Season 33 ends on January 19. Season 34 reintroduces the Light's Calling Season theme, which means players can obtain Angelic Crucibles, consumables that may be used to Sanctify any Legendary item, infusing it randomly with one of three new class-specific powers. Cosmetic rewards for the patch are as follows:
Completing the Season 34 Guarian journey grants the Book of Cain pet and the Lost Civilization Portrait Frame.
Haedrig's Gift will award you with the following sets in Season 34:
Barbarian - Horde of the Ninety Savages Crusader - Aegis of Valor Demon Hunter - Gears of Dreadlands Monk - Patterns of Justice Witch Doctor - Mundunugu’s Regalia Wizard - Typhon’s Veil Necromancer - Masquerade of the Burning Carnival For more information about Season 34, check out the official blog post below.

Sanctuary needs you to answer its call for aid in Season 34: Light’s Calling. Starting on January 24 at 5 p.m. PST/CET/KST, Nephalem can harness the power of the Light’s Calling theme, which first debuted with Season 27. For an in-depth look at what’s coming, take a gander below. Also, Season 33 will officially come to an end on January 19.

        Season Theme
Looking to turn the tide of an unremitting war between light and darkness, the Angels of the High Heavens have embedded a token of their righteousness in Sanctuary. Cunning Nephalem seeking an advantage in combat will undergo an angelic trial, crystallizing a symbol of their morality into pure, otherworldly perfection. The specific celestial force imbued within by the divine is unknown—an answer waiting to be sought on the battlefield. Go forth, Nephalem!
Season 34 reintroduces Light’s Calling. Valiant Nephalem who recover Angelic Crucibles, a new consumable item, may use them to Sanctify any equippable Legendary item, infusing it with one of three new class-specific powers at random. We wanted to use Angelic Crucibles to lean into the expertise of each class, further exemplifying its respective prowess, but through a nuanced lens. The High Heavens are home to ethereal splendor, bursting with boundless radiance—we wanted to provide players with a taste of untainted power as doled out from Heaven itself.

        Season Cosmetic Rewards
In Season 34, awards originally available from Season 10 are returning. In addition to the Head and Shoulder slots of the exclusive Conqueror Set, you’ll be able to earn the Black Soulstone themed portraits and the scholarly Loremaster pennant first introduced in Season 10.

However, we know it’s nice to have something new to aim for if you’ve participated in previous Seasons. We’re continuing to provide new End of Journey rewards as introduced in Season 17, with two new cosmetic ones for those who complete the entirety of the Season journey. Prove your worth alongside the Shades of the Nephalem and complete the Season 34 Guardian Journey to earn the Book of Cain pet and the Lost Civilization Portrait Frame.

        Haedrig’s Gift

Finally, the Class Sets rewarded for completing certain chapters in the Season Journey courtesy of Haedrig’s Gift have rotated once more. We’ve listed the available Sets below. For those new to Seasons, here’s how it works.
Completing Chapters 2, 3, and 4 of the Season Journey will reward you with three of Haedrig’s Gifts. These contain a few pieces from one of your Class Sets. Players can only unlock one Class Set in this manner per Season across Hardcore and Non-Hardcore, so choose wisely!
The set you receive depends on the class of the character you’re playing when you open each Haedrig’s Gift. To collect a full Class Set, you’ll need to open all three on the same character. In this season, Haedrig's Gift will grant all-new class sets introduced with previous Seasons.
Here are the sets granted by Haedrig’s Gift in Season 34:
Barbarian - Horde of the Ninety Savages Crusader - Aegis of Valor Demon Hunter - Gears of Dreadlands Monk - Patterns of Justice Witch Doctor - Mundunugu’s Regalia Wizard - Typhon’s Veil Necromancer - Masquerade of the Burning Carnival Return to Top
