Shadowlands Beta 9.0.1 Build 35167: Class Changes

The Alpha has transitioned over to the Beta and we are looking at the latest class changes that went live this week.

Blizzard added a bunch of new Legendary Powers and you can find them in the links below.

Demon Hunter

Havoc

  • Havoc Demon Hunter Havoc Demon Hunter (Spec Aura) - Blade Dance, Burning Hatred, Chaos Nova, Chaos Strike, Demon's Bite, Essence Break, Eye Beam, Eye of Leotheras, Fel Barrage, Fel Rush, Felblade, Immolation Aura, Insatiable Hunger, Metamorphosis, Throw Glaive, Trail of Ruin, Unbound Chaos, Vengeful Retreat

Druid

Balance

  • Mastery: Total Eclipse Mastery: Total Eclipse - Solar Eclipse increases Nature damage by 14% 11.2%, and Lunar Eclipse increases Arcane damage by 14% 11.2%.

The Kindred Spirits Covenant Ability also got updated.

We’ve made the following changes to Kindred Spirits (Kyrian class ability) in the next build:

  • Visual effects have been updated.
  • Kindred Spirits Kindred Spirits now casts a solo version of each buff when bonded with yourself, called Lone Empowerment (Balance and Feral), Lone Meditation (Restoration), or Lone Protector (Guardian). These effects are weaker than when you pair with an ally, and grant simple buffs to damage, healing, or mitigation.
  • Kindred Empowerment Kindred Empowerment (the “damager” buff) no longer gives ramping primary stat to your partner. Instead, 30% of all damage dealt grants the partner a pool of Kindred Empowerment, which gets expended to increase their damage, healing, and mitigation until it runs out.

Paladin

Baseline

  • Turn Evil Turn Evil - The power of the Light compels an Undead, Aberration, or Demon target to flee, disorienting them for up to 40 sec. Damage may break the effect. Only one target can be turned at a time.

Blizzard also changed how Blessing of the Seasons works on the Beta and they transformed it into a single-target buff instead of being party-based.

In an upcoming build, Blessing of the Seasons is reworked to be a single-target buff, instead of being party-based. This is both more in keeping with modern abilities called “Blessings”, and also avoids a lot of balance-related problems that people were seeing on alpha. For example, the damaging Blessings will now be more effective when used solo, not only in group play. All four of the effects have their values increased to go along with this change (caveat that tuning is still quite preliminary). The changes mentioned last week—where multiple Paladins in a group are locked together, and give a hidden increase in strength to the Blessings—are no longer necessary and are reverted.

Protection

  • Moment of Glory Moment of Glory (Level 30 Talent) - Reset the cooldown of Avenger's Shield. Your next 3 Avenger's Shields have no cooldown and deal 20% additional damage.

Priest

  • Devouring Plague Devouring Plague now heals you for 50% of damage dealt.
  • Mastery: Madness Mastery: Madness - Increases the damage of your Shadow Word: Pain, Vampiric Touch, Shadow Word: Void, Mind Flay, Mind Sear, Void Eruption, Void Bolt, and Devouring Plague by 9.6%.

Warlock

  • Focused Chaos Focused Chaos (PvP Talent) - Chaos Bolt damage is increased by 65% 40%, but no longer strikes additional targets afflicted by Havoc.

Affliction

  • Shadow Bolt Shadow Bolt - Specialization changed from All to Affliction, Demonology

Destruction

  • Soul Fire Soul Fire (Level 15 Talent) no longer causes your next Incinerate to become instant cast. It applies Immolate instead. Cooldown reduced to 45 seconds (was 60 seconds).
  • Internal Combustion Internal Combustion (Level 30 Talent) - Chaos Bolt consumes up to 7 5 sec of Immolate's damage over time effect on your target, instantly dealing that much damage.
  • Shadowburn Shadowburn (Level 30 Talent) reverted back to 2 charges. Blasts a target for [ 130% 141% of Spell Power ] Shadowflame damage, gaining 50% critical strike chance on low health targets. 1 charge 2 charges
  • Rain of Chaos Rain of Chaos (Level 90 Talent) Infernals now spawn wherever your first Infernal landed.
  • Roaring Blaze Roaring Blaze (Level 90 Talent) - Conflagrate increases your Fire damage to the target by 30% for 6 8 sec.

Wait, Soul Fire's cooldown is no longer reduced by Chaos Bolt? That sucks, that was very fun. Glad it actually deals damage now, but now it's just a fairly generic cooldown attack that doesnt affect your rotation much. Although, at least it has a long cast...

      Well, as Easter Eggs go, this one is pretty on-the-nose! Blizzard have added an NPC to the game in Maldraxxus (the home of Necromancy) and, well, he MIGHT just be a reference to... something?

      As spotted by SilkyNightingale, it's a nice (and responsible) reference to the current pandemic, which was also part of the reason the expansion was delayed in the first place. Although we have to be honest, an eternal being (and skeletal on top of that) in the afterlife talking about masks and handwashing? Are even immortal bags of bones not safe from Covid?! Low blow Blizz!

      The strange interactions have started already, as a spear you can pick up on the ground during a Bastion quest seems to have 1-shot PvP potential! The quest zone in question is the In Agthia's Memory, where you re-live the Void attack on Bastion and it has Kyrian spears scattered throughout which you can pick up. Streamer r6ron picked one up, flung it at an enemy player aaaand:

      Interestingly however, he tried the same thing later, and the spear did no damage whatsoever. He may have missed the second time, but it looked to land right on. So is this just a weird one-off interaction or are those spears really deadly? In any case the spear is only available during the memory in the quest itself, so you won't be able to run around with it in Bastion chasing down those who have wronged you.
      If you ever find yourself on that particular quest with War Mode on, maybe try it out and let us know!

      Another huge batch of hotfixes today! We have class fixes and changes (mostly for Covenant abilities), creatures, dungeons, items, professions and most of all, a huge number of quest fixes.

      Classes
      Hunter General Resolved an issue where Hunters leaving their Resonating Arrow (Kyrian Ability) area effect could apply the Resonating Arrow debuff to unintended targets. Wild Spirit’s (Night Fae Ability) visual effects now appear for enemy players. Monk General Calculated Strikes (Potency Conduit) no longer causes Spinning Crane Kick to deal less damage than intended when using a two-handed weapon. Windwalker Resolved an issue that prevented Bonedust Brew (Necrolord Ability) from refunding Chi when using Spinning Crane Kick . Shaman General Deathseer Choker (Torghast Anima Power) now properly increases the damage of any summoned units. Vesper Totem (Kyrian Ability) will no longer incorrectly pulse a heal when casting Stormkeeper (Talent) as Elemental and Enhancement specializations. Elemental Fixed an issue that allowed Chain Harvest (Venthyr Ability) to work with Echoing Shock (Talent). Restoration Mana Tide Totem will no longer incorrectly applies to enemy players in PvP combat. Warlock General Fixed an issue that caused Smoking Shard of Teleportation (Torghast Anima Power) to not work properly if an active demon isn't summoned. Creatures and NPCs
      Zo'sorg and Purveyor Zo'kuul went on a brief hiatus while an issue was being resolved. The PvP vendors should now be back in Oribos at the usual location. Players above level 50 now properly retain their full combat bonus when fighting enemies from the Legion expansion. Fixed an issue where some of the Aspirant Defenders at Aspirant's Rest in Bastion would not help nearby players. They have since come to an agreement that you need no further training and are once again ready to assist. Indomitable Schmitd should now react to the Fuseless Special bomb more reliably. Foreman Thorodir is now immune to damage and will accept your quest turn in without interruption from nearby gorm. Dungeons and Raids
      Spires of Ascension The kyrian in Path of Ascension will stay lower to the ground when using their diving attacks. Items and Rewards
      The Phial of Ravenous Slime toy has been temporarily disabled. Clear Tormmok Tracking Quest should now only be usable in Ardenweald, and should be unavailable inside dungeons, including Mists of Tirna Scithe. Kyrian Javelins are no longer able to be used against enemy players. The Foul Energy trinket from the Spires of Ascension dungeon should now only drop for caster specializations. The Overflowing Ember Mirror trinket no longer double dips into Versatility. The Paladin Protector trinket channel has been reduced to 1.2 seconds (was 6 seconds) and the number of pulses during the channel has been increased. Additionally, the overall healing has been increased by 36% and the overall damage increased by 56%. Professions
      Alchemy Spectral Flask of Power should no longer provide a 2 hour duration for non-Alchemists. Leatherworking Launch Iron Star are now Bind on Equip. Quests
      Changed a setting that should allow players to consistently see and interact with others in their group in the four Shadowlands zones and the introductory Maw. The quest "Shadowlands: A Chilling Summons" should no longer be offered to players who have not activated the expansion. All quest credit for "Through the Shattered Sky" is now shared with all party members when Party Sync is enabled. Horde players on the Battle for Azeroth War Campaign will automatically be removed from the instanced version of Orgrimmar while on the introductory quests for Shadowlands. The Echoes of Mortality required for the quest "The Eternal Traveler" are now obtainable in the Shadowlands. Darion Mograine should no longer be phased out for some party members before accepting the quest "Field Seance". Fixed an issue that caused players to disconnect if they fall into the Maw’s dark abyss during the introduction questline. The Jailer won’t be pleased to hear the news of your escape… Fixed an issue where party members were unable to see Thanikos Spinerender during the Bastion quest "A Time for Courage". Fixed an issue during the Bastion quest "A Temple in Need" where Galistos' Burdens would appear before players had successfully completed the previous wave of Galistos’ Burdens. Fixed an issue where the Hurl Kyrian Hammer vehicle ability could fail to appear during the Bastion quest "The Enemy You Know". Players may now turn in the Bastion side quest "Functioning Anima Core" to Kalisthene when they first meet her during the campaign quest "Go in Service". Fixed an issue where players who were not eligible to close Swelling Tears in Bastion could see them. Fixed several issues that would prevent Andira from being retrieved for some players during the quest, “Larion at Large”. Fixed an issue where neutral enemies would attack players unprovoked during the Bastion world quest "A Crisis of Memory". Adjusted the Ardenweald Campaign so that it will no longer overlap with the Maldraxxus Campaign. "The Arbiter's Will" and "The Land of Strife" are now under Chapter 1 of the Maldraxxus Campaign. Secutive Mavix no longer disappears after abandoning the Maldraxxus quest, “A Deadly Distraction”. Ve'nari's Anima Shroud stealth aura has been buffed while on the quest, “Delving Deeper”. The quest objectives needed to complete “Hazardous Waste Collection” should now spawn more frequently. Players can no longer be attacked by enemy players while under the effects of Paralytic Plague during the quest “Fit For a Margrave” and while stunned in the air during the quest “Through the Fire and Flames”. Baroness Vashj is now able to multitask and will accept the turn in for the Maldraxxus quest “Straight to the Heart” while she’s engaged in combat. She does have four arms after all. Quest credit for “A Bond Beyond Death” will now continue after defeating Deslan the Torturer. Fixed an issue that could sometimes cause the cutscene in the Grove of Awakening to fail to play. Fixed an issue where grouped players could have a party member become unable to complete the Ardenweald quest "Wildseed Rescue". Fixed an issue where the Blighted Beast would become stuck with no way to complete the quest, “Toppling the Brute”. Dreamweaver’s position has been updated for accepting the quest, “Hungry for Animacones”. Flutterby has given her questly duties to Sesselie so now players can turn in the quest "Replenish the Reservoir". While on the Revendreth quest “A Reflection of Truth”, the ground visual for Crimson Barrage should remain visible when Projected Textures is disabled in the System Settings menu. Fixed an issue where grouped players could have a party member become unable to complete the Revendreth quest "A Reflection of Truth". "The Master of Lies" scenario will now advance beyond Stage 1 for the entire party, regardless of watching or exiting the cutscene. Additionally, the area required for completing Stage 3 is now easier to locate. The Signaling Beacon required for completing the Maw quest “Rule 3: Trust is Earned” should no longer be affected by combat in its vicinity.

      Blizzard have fixed an issue that was preventing players from being able to see and interact with others in their party, with a note that it might work a little different in max level Maw.

      With a hotfix to the game that was applied a little while ago, we’ve removed a setting that was restricting players’ ability to consistently see and interact with others in their group in the four Shadowlands zones and the introductory Maw.
      Now, as before in Battle for Azeroth, joining a group should bring you to the party leader’s perspective. Players who are in and out of War Mode will remain separate, as always.
      An exception that remains is the max-level version of the Maw. Players in the max-level Maw may not immediately be able to see one another when joining a party. However, leaving the max-level Maw (to Oribos) and returning should bring members of a party together.

      We've recently detailed the Threads of Fate system which allows your alts to skip the story campaign quests and simply level via bonus objectives and World Quests etc, and now Blizzard have clarified when exactly you main will enable this feature, as well as clarified that all your alts get it, even if they had already finished the Maw intro scenario:
      Unfortunately it seems you still need to finisht the Maw intro, as the Threads of Fate quest giver is in Oribos. Read our recent article on the system for more info.
