wow Change Your Gender in the Barber Shop for Free in Shadowlands

In Shadowlands, you will be able to change your gender for free and the feature is now live on the Beta.

Executive Producer John Hight mentioned in an interview that we will be able to change our gender in the Barber Shop for free come Shadowlands , as the option will no longer be a paid service.

"A long time ago, we had the ability for players to go in - it was actually a paid service - and change their character. Much of that is now in the barber shop in the game,"

"And as we were adding things up in Shadowlands, we realised, 'Gosh the only way you can change your gender in World of Warcraft is to go through this paid service.' And we felt like that's not the right message.

"Unfortunately we can't fix that right now but it is our intent with Shadowlands to take that out of being a paid service thing and [put it] in the barber shop. But that's not something we can easily hotfix - unfortunately we can't do that right now. It is something that we're going to have in Shadowlands itself."

The feature is now available on the Beta, so we looked at it in more detail. It costs around 100 Gold to change your gender right now.

At most, this is an appropriate response to a shift in collective thinking. At minimum, it's taking the price tag off a previously charged-for service. 

Either way, there is no reason to complain.

Blizz said that a gender change isn't something that is hotfixable. The fact that they are bringing it in with an expansion shows that it takes a fair amount on the back end to make this relatively simple change. Bringing in race changes, is a greater challenge because of racial talents. They are not necessarily complex, but it is a logistical challenge. Bringing in faction changes, all on a whim like this, would be near impossible because you would need to change reps, race, racial abilities, mounts, and not to mention needing this done in a neutral city so you aren't killed immediately.

Do I think race and faction services should be cheaper? Yes.  Free for both? Ehh, I don't think they should be free but it shouldn't be something that costs $25 like it is now.  I would be happy with a $5 or $10 charge for either service. I just don't think we should be able to change faction or race so easily because its an RPG. Your character should have an identity.

Agreed... too many free services any you might as well not even have individual characters anymore, just load outs you select before entering the game each time.

I doubt that is why they are doing this.
