Shadowlands Afterlives Animated Short: Bastion Featuring Uther

We finally get to see the Afterlives animated shorts! The successors to Lords of War, Harbingers and Warbringers, the Shadowlands cinematics focus on the Covenants of each zone, with many prominent Warcraft lore characters appearing throughout. Whether it's Arthas and Uther, Draka, or even potentially Garrosh, their stories will introduce us to the way the Shadowlands work, with each Covenant being crucial to the way souls are treated in the afterlife. We'll also get to meet new characters, mostly related to the Covenants themselves, and that all starts now!

The first in the series focuses on Bastion and the Kyrian Covenant, as we follow Uther's journey after his death and the problems he faces, as well as the new character of Devos. It seems Arthas' killing of Uther had a much bigger impact than we thought, as the Shaowlands were also affected by it

And here's the official trailer we've already seen, featuring parts of the next three shorts:

Blizzard really seem to be putting a lot of effort into Shadowlands, and it's becoming one of the more hyped expansions in WoW's history, which is great to see.

Aand we already see a huge lore retcon. Remember back in Warcraft 3 and Wrath how itvwas mentioned that Frostmourne captures souls? Remember Halls of Reflection dungeon? How was he able to ascend when he was still supposed to have been trapped in the blade? Plus the end of the ICC raid when you give the mementos to various NPCs he was still there?

Had same questions, it's a retcon and it creates some plotholes. Like, did both halves share memories or were they separate? Was every soul like this, or just Uther? Reminds me of Varian's story from the comic, when he was split in two by Onyxia, and they were two separate physical bodies (Varian regained memories of his other half when they merged, if I remember it correctly).

Oh, hello, Varian's Background. This is a surprise. I thought you were off travelling with Med'an somewhere.

It's still canon, supposedly. Only parts with Med'an becoming Guardian of Tirisfal aren't. After all, characters introduced in the comic are still around. Except for Med'an, obviously, although he might still exist, but won't be mentioned anywhere.

Med'an is around of course, but travelling... somewhere. Where he is best suited. Varian's backstory would be an excellent travelling companion, I think. ?

Executive Producer Holly Longdale teased some upcoming experimental PvE-focused content that Blizzard will soon reveal to the community.
It appears that Plunderstorm isn't the only new mode Blizzard plans to add to WoW this year.
Holly Longdale today teased an upcoming PvE-oriented event that will soon be revealed to us. Holly might be talking about the "Timerunning Pandamonium," expected in Patch 10.2.7.

      Greetings Citizens of Azeroth,
It’s been great seeing so many players taking the plunge into Plunderstorm and we’ve loved seeing all of the stories and feedback as this experimental event evolves. It will be exciting to see some of the community content creators going head-to-head as duos during the Plunderstorm Creator Royale on March 30!  This isn’t the end of the things we want to try in World of Warcraft, however, and we have more in store we can’t wait to show you.
Dragonflight Season 4 is in route as testing begins on the PTR and we’ll have more news to share soon™ on the next experiment we have up our sleeves. We hope those of you who are looking for PvE focused content will enjoy what we’re planning, all while we continue to press forward on development of our next expansion for World of Warcraft— The War Within.
We can’t wait to share with you all the many things the team has been hard at work on.
With gratitude and excitement for what we’ll do together next,
      Holly Longdale
