Monk Class Changes in Shadowlands Beta 9.0.2 Build 35854

Here are some long-awaited Monk changes that went live on the Shadowlands Beta in Build 35854.

Note that Blizzard did not communicate these changes when the latest Shadowlands Beta build went live, and so the community was disappointed with the lack of Monk changes. Fortunately, we datamined some Monk class changes that went live on the Beta!

Monk

Baseline

  • Expel HarmExpel Harm
    • All Specs, Initial: Expel negative chi from your body, healing for [ 101% 120% of Spell Power ] and dealing 10% of the amount healed as Nature damage to an enemy within 8 yards.
    • Mistweaver: Expel negative chi from your body, healing for [ 101% 120% of Spell Power ] and dealing 10% of the amount healed as Nature damage to an enemy within 8 yards. Draws in the positive chi of all your Healing Spheres to increase the healing of Expel Harm. Up to 3 Healing Spheres are formed nearby, each healing for [ 150% of Attack Power ] when consumed. May be cast during Soothing Mist, and will additionally heal the Soothing Mist target.
  • Way of the CraneWay of the Crane (PvP talent) - Invoke Chi-Ji, the Red Crane, and become immune to movement impairing effects for 25 sec. Chi-Ji kicks up Gusts of Mists with your Physical abilities, healing up to 3 2 allies for [ 126% 0.1% of Attack Spell Power ], and reducing the cost and cast time of your next Enveloping Mist by 33%, stacking 3 times.

Brewmaster

  • Celestial BrewCelestial Brew - Cooldown increased from 30 to 60 seconds. A swig of strong brew that coalesces purified chi escaping your body into a celestial guard, absorbing [ 1,000 600% of Attack Power ] damage.
  • ShuffleShuffle - Niuzao's teachings allow you to shuffle during combat, increasing the effectiveness of your Stagger by 75%. 100%.
  • Purifying BrewPurifying Brew - Recharge increased from 15 to 20 seconds.
  • Celestial FlamesCelestial Flames (Level 100 talent) - Drinking from Brews has a 30% chance to coat the Monk with Celestial Flames for 6 sec, increasing the damage reduction of Breath of Fire by 5%. sec. While Celestial Flames is active, Spinning Crane Kick also causes a applies Breath of Fire on targets. and Breath of Fire reduces the damage affected enemies deal to you by an additional 5%.

Mistweaver

  • Invoke Yu'lon, the Jade SerpentInvoke Yu'lon, the Jade Serpent - Summons an effigy of Yu'lon, the Jade Serpent for 25 sec. Yu'lon will heal injured allies with Soothing Breath, healing the target and up to 5 2 allies for [ 180% 105% of Spell Power ] over 4 4.5 sec.
  • Touch of DeathTouch of Death - Touch of Death increases the Monk's Physical damage by 0 15% for 8 10 sec.
  • Expel HarmExpel Harm - Expel Harm can be cast during Soothing Mist, and additionally heals theMonk and their Soothing Mist target.
  • Mana TeaMana Tea (Level 45 talent) has been moved off the global cooldown. Reduces the mana cost of your spells by 50% for 12 10 sec.
  • Invoke Chi-Ji, the Red CraneInvoke Chi-Ji, the Red Crane (Level 90 talent) - Cooldown increased from 2 to 3 minutes. Invoke Chi-Ji, the Red Crane, and become immune to movement impairing effects for 25 sec. Chi-Ji kicks up Gusts of Mists with your Physical abilities, healing up to 3 2 allies for [ 126% 0.1% of Attack Spell Power ], and reducing the cost and cast time of your next Enveloping Mist by 33%, stacking 3 times.

Windwalker

  • Touch of DeathTouch of Death - Touch of Death increases the Monk's Physical damage by 0 15% for 8 10 sec.
  • Flying Serpent KickFlying Serpent Kick (Rank 2) added. Reduces the cooldown of Flying Serpent Kick by 5 sec.

Wait, thats it? the promised us BIG changes to the monk, they go radio silent for almost a month after saying it and when they finally come back the best they could do for windwalkers is take 5 seconds off the CD of FSK and make touch of death give us a small damage buff? I guess I don't know what I was expecting since Monk is like the redheaded stepchild of all the classes. But it definitely wasn't this. Still no fixes to SEF, No passive skill to give windwalkers any reason to use a 2 hander, No changes to the kyrian or night fae covenant abilities so they aren't completely antithetical to the windwalkers playstyle.

This all just reeks of Blizzard having no idea what to do with the spec and expecting the people who have played it for years to just deal with it being basically unchanged from the snorefest that was BFA.

      It seems a new round of beta invites has arrived, or Blizzard has amped up the intensity of the handing out of access, as many players have noticed and encouraged other to check their inboxes on reddit! The number of players reporting getting an invite indicates this is a particularly large wave.       Also, as noticed by twitter user @DoumStorm, also check your launcher first, as the mails tend to be slower than the invites themselves!

      This week's beta class changes appear to be starting and Warriors get a change to a powerful legendary item, as the Mishapen Mirror gets nerfed. We recently talked about this legendary in particular in out Protection Warrior spec highlights, and it's was one of two top pics for the spec.

      Hello.
      In this week’s build of the Shadowlands Beta, the Misshapen Mirror legendary has been changed. It now increases Spell Reflect duration by 60% and only affects your nearest ally.
      Previously, this legendary was proving to be stronger than intended.

      Death Knights get two Covenant abilities changes this week on the Beta, as Abomination Limb and Shackle the Unworthy get target caps, buffs and more.

      In this week’s new build of the Shadowlands Beta, we’ve updated two covenant abilities, Abomination Limb and Shackle the Unworthy.
      Abomination Limb has been target capped at 5, and its damage has increased by 15%. The grip has also been updated so it may only pull the same target every 4 seconds. This change was made to prevent it from encouraging the Death Knight to repeatedly walk out of range and then pull the same target.
      We’ve also added a new functionality to the ability that grants Bone Shield charges, Rime, or Runic Corruption (based on spec) the first time the Limb pulls an enemy (this only occurs once). We hope this change will broaden the usage of the ability outside of PvP.
      Shackle the Unworthy has had its damage increased by 15%, but no longer has its cooldown reduced when spending runes. Instead of the cooldown reduction, it now works as follows: “While Shackle the Unworthy is active on an enemy, your direct-damage attacks that spend runes have a 50% chance to spread Shackle the Unworthy to a nearby enemy”.
      We hope this change gives the ability a more active playstyle and creates more situations where it might be more useful than its previous iteration.

      No Assassination changes this week either, as Outlaw gets the focus, with Blade Flurry buffs and more.

      In this week’s build of the Shadowlands Beta, we have some notable changes for Outlaw Rogues.
      Since both Assassination and Subtlety can apply poisons in AoE relatively easily, we want Outlaw to have access to similar utility. As such, Blade Flurry hits can now apply poisons to any enemies hit.
      We’ve also changed the Between the Eyes debuff. It no longer gives you increased Critical Hit Damage against the target; it now gives you increased Critical Strike Chance against the target. This allows Blade Flurry to spread the damage bonus of this debuff to secondary target.

      Blizzard have posted that Covenant tuning is currently underway on the Shadowlands beta, to inform players that there may be some big number changes coming to being certain abilities closer to their counterparts.

      In today’s updated build of the Shadowlands Beta, testers will see a snapshot of the the process of tuning several Shadowlands systems, which is underway. We’re in the midst of recalibrating the throughput of several Covenant abilities, and while in some cases the magnitude of the change may feel large, it’s necessary to bring outlier abilities in-line with our targets, so that players can make more accurate comparisons between abilities.
