Unbridled Darkness is a Demon Hunter simulator that turns your screen pitch black while in Torghast, Tower of the Damned, in Shadowlands.

Blizzard has been testing three special Torghast events on the Beta lately. In the game files, they are also referred to as holidays, meaning they will likely rotate regularly when the game is out.

These include Beasts of the Prodigum, Chorus of Dead Souls, and Unbridled Darkness. Here is a blue post that discusses all three in more detail.

With this week’s update to the Shadowlands Beta, we’re kicking off a test of some special events for Torghast, and we have them set on a daily rotation. The first Anima Hoard you discover on a run will have unique choices that help define the rest of your run.

The events include:

  • Beasts of Prodigum: Your first Maw power chest allows you to gain control of a powerful Maw beast that fights alongside you during your run. Subsequent Maw powers you receive in this run have a chance to modify the beast and grant it special abilities.
  • Chorus of Dead Souls: Your first Maw power chest allows you to assume the form of a Deadsoul Chorus, granting you special abilities. While in this form, your party members can right-click you to join your form and cast on the move. Subsequent Maw powers enhance your Deadsoul Chorus form in a variety of ways.
  • Unbridled Darkness: Your first Maw power chest can grant you a vial of darkness that you can activate. Using it turns your screen completely dark and you are unable to see your surroundings. While under this effect, you gain large combat bonuses. Subsequent Maw powers enhance your combat bonuses or modify the darkness.

Please let us know what you think of these as they come around in the Beta!

Unbridled Darkness turns your screen pitch black, and you won't see anything so long as it's active. You cannot manually enter or leave the darkness, but when active, your damage, healing, and movement speed will be increased.

  • Uncontrolled DarknessUncontrolled Darkness - Darkness envelops you every 5 kills, causing you to be completely unable to view your surroundings. The Unbridled Darkness mechanic requires coordination and is fun when you're playing with more players in the party, but it can quickly get frustrating when you're clearing the tower alone and have no clue what you're doing.

In the first build of Patch 9.1, Blizzard updated global strings that are tied to loot, including bonus rolls.
Many have thus started speculating about the possible return of bonus rolls in Chains of Domination. However, it's important to note that these global strings existed in Patch 9.0.5 and the update was only really marginal, so you should take everything with a grain of salt.
Only a single "." was removed from the following global strings associated with loot and currencies.
LOOT_ITEM_PUSHED_SELF - You receive item: %s. LOOT_ITEM_SELF - You receive loot: %s. LOOT_ITEM_PUSHED_SELF_MULTIPLE - You receive item: %sx%d. LOOT_ITEM_SELF_MULTIPLE - You receive loot: %sx%d. CURRENCY_GAINED - You receive currency: %s. CURRENCY_GAINED_MULTIPLE - You receive currency: %s x%d. CURRENCY_GAINED_MULTIPLE_BONUS - You receive currency: %s x%d. (Bonus Objective) LOOT_ITEM_BONUS_ROLL_SELF - You receive bonus loot: %s. LOOT_ITEM_BONUS_ROLL_SELF_MULTIPLE - You receive bonus loot: %sx%d. If this is still confusing to you, let me explain. In Patch 9.0.5, the text associated with the bonus loot global string looked like this: "You receive currency: %s x%d."
In Patch 9.1, it looks like this:  "You receive currency: %s x%d"
Why would Blizzard update global strings that they do not plan on using in the future? For consistency, maybe? Would you like to see bonus rolls return in World of Warcraft?

Kael'thas received a new voice actor, and his Burning Crusade voiceovers have been completely re-recorded in Patch 9.1.
Portergauge spotted that Kaelthas' voiceovers in both Magister's Terrace and the Eye raid have been recast in Chains of Domination.

Next, we're looking at new 9.1 models of Anduin and the wounded Archon.
In the Chains of Domination reveal cinematic from Blizzconline, Anduin stabs the Archon, which opens the story of Patch 9.1.
At the end of the cinematic, the Archon moves, which means she survived the onslaught, and so Blizzard updated her model in the forthcoming patch with a scar caused by Anduin's Kingsmourne.

Anduin's model has also been updated and now resembles the Lich King. It's clear now that he serves the Mawsworn. Two models are included, one with and one without the helm.

Sylvanas drops a unique Hunter bow with a special effect in Patch 9.1's Sanctum of Domination raid.
DNT - PH - 9.1 Raid Bow 2 (Sylvanas) comes with a unique effect that replaces the Hunter's Kill Shot ability with Wailing Arrow. The effect stuns lesser creatures for 6 seconds.
Banshee's Lament - Replace your Kill Shot with Wailing Arrow, which deals 257 Shadow damage to your target and an additional 95 Shadow damage to all nearby targets within 8 yds of your target. Lesser creatures struck by a Wailing Arrow are stunned for 6 sec.
Only two tints of the 9.1 Hunter bow are available in the game's Adventure Journal. LFR/Normal/Heroic versions of the bow share colors for now, and the Mythic bow has a different color.

The Chains of Domination PTR has arrived and brought a whole lot of new info, but one new model in particular has reminded many players of a very early Shadowlands concept art leak. Spoilers for the Primus' new look, obviously and some speculation on whether this similar look might actually mean something.
The new Primus model didn't quite go for the powerful warlord of Maldraxxus look, but rather opted for a wise old mentor with a Winter Solider arm take:

Apart from not quite being what players expected after the gigantic statue and legend of the Primus, the model does bear some resemblance to the original leaked Jailer model that is generally considered better than the one we got in the end:

Aside from the very obvious beard comparison, the hands/claws are strikingly similar as well, not to mention the skin tone, and even the Primus' horns fit right in with the armor piece the original Jailer is wearing. Now, this certainly isn't to imply that the Primus and the Jailer are the same person, as we've had QUITE enough Runecarver/Primus speculation over the last months, but could there be something more to this than just art reuse/inspiration?

The first sighting of the Jailer, this one was confirmed as being a placeholder, as there wasn't any real design for him yet.
First off, there's been many theories about the original Jailer concept that leaked and whether it was just scrapped and changed before launch, but there are those that think that this is the true form of the Jailer, pre-banishment, and I'm starting to believe it as well. Whatever the Eternal ones took from the Jailer, other than his freedom, this may have caused a physical change as well, or all that time in the Maw may have. And so the original concept art has become sort of a "Jailer's ultimate form"  prediction/theory, and we might actually see it before the expansion is over.
      How would this happen exactly?
We've heard a lot about the Jailer's chest-hole and the Arbiter's chest-pearl and how it's looking pretty likely they fit very well together, but that just seems like the final piece that Blizzard wanted to have tier together at the end. We now know what the Jailer is after specifically, and we've known he wants to be free of the Maw (and then, incidentally, he'll also unmake the Shadowlands/universe, if Sylvanas is to be believed/knows his true motivations) since the start. The new piece of information that came with the Chains of Domination trailer is that he is collecting the keys from each of the Eternal Ones, and while this is also certainly to escape the Maw, it is also most likely to get his power back. The keys may actually be literal pieces of the Jailer that the other Eternal Ones took in order to bind him in the Maw and weaken him, and so when he gets them back he might actually change in appearance as well. The Arbiter is pretty clearly going to be the final key that gets taken, and probably has a bigger significance to the Jailer than the other Eternal Ones/their keys, hence the chest hole/pearl connection. In fact, perhaps the keys the Jailer is taking from the Eternal Ones are just 4 in number, which are needed to unlock the 5th, final key, which is either the pearl or the Arbiter itself. At that point the Jailer and Arbiter might merge back into one (taking the theory that they were split when Zovaal was banished) and we get the original concept art look back!
And as the old concept art looks much more similar to the Primus, more "brotherly", it seems quite possible that transformation will actually come, either before we fight the Jailer in the last raid (either at the end of the penultimate patch or just before the final raid of the expansion), or even during the final encounter as he takes the Arbiter's key. We already know the Eternal Ones are basically a family, as they keep referring to the Jailer as "brother", so a closer family resemblance would fit the story.
Even if you don't buy into the visual similarities between the new Primus and original Jailer, the theory still stands, with or without the specific look of the final form, so let's see how it plays out!

This is all very speculative, of course, but that piece of concept art has been bugging a lot of players for a lot of time, and it just never sat right that a pretty good/great design like that was just scrapped in favor of the bald perpetually angry fellow we've been seeing so far. Whichever the case may be, we'll have to wait quite a bit longer to see if the Jailer gets any new form, but it does seem exceedingly likely that he'll manage to get all the keys and empower himself, at which point we'll have to defeat him.
