PTR Release Candidate Bulild + Season End Warning Discussion

Recommended Posts

The PTR is updating with a new build which has been marked as a release candidate, which usually indicates the patch is close, but we really knew that already considering the expansion is a little under 5 weeks away. While this at least means there could be a release soon, release candidates have been known to get a variable number of iterations, so we didn't really narrow the timeframe down by much, if at all.

This image brought to you by massively annoying Nvidia popups.

The other big thing to talk about is recent discussions about the season end warning, as we're not quite sure that what we got tucked inside the  big "what's coming in the pre-patch" blue post is really how Blizzard would want to announce that, especially considering there's no context for the actual time until the season ends or the time the post-season will last.

Blizzard LogoSeason Ending Announcement? (source)

BATTLE FOR AZEROTH PVP SEASON 4 ENDS AND THE POST-SEASON BEGINS

The gates will soon close on Battle for Azeroth PvP Season 4 with the release of the Shadowlands pre-expansion patch. Don’t worry though, you’ll still be able to take part in competitive PvP in a special post-season, which will end with the launch of the expansion. The new Shadowlands Season 1 will then go live shortly after the launch of Shadowlands.

If you participated in Season 4, to ensure you receive the rewards that you’re due, please keep the following in mind:

  • Refrain from transferring your character(s) to another realm or faction until after Battle for Azeroth Season 4 has ended.
  • Battle for Azeroth Season 4 titles and mounts will be awarded approximately two weeks after the season ends.

Previous end of season announcements often mentioned a time window that the post-season will last, which would have given us the pre-patch launch date, so that's a strike against the theory. However, the Legion end of expansion / season 7 close post also didn't mention a specific duration, but it DID get its own separate article on the WoW site.

So the only thing we can gather from this is that we still have no specific information on when the pre-patch might be coming. It seems almost definitive that we'll be seeing it on or before October 6th/7th, which would make it just under 2 weeks from the big blue post, but it could also come next week, or as some players somewhat too hopefully wish, tomorrow. We still estimate that the most likely release date is October 6th/7th, and we've gone over why in a separate post already.

In any case, the release candidate does at least give us some solid ground with Schrodinger's pre-patch, aka we at least now know there IS a cat in the box.

I am happy with the slow testing and the delay. They want to ensure this is a smooth and easy xpac. I APPRECIATE it! Lotsa mounts to still farm out there.

I personally am just waiting for this patch to go live.....the double rep is pathetic when the rep is pathetic to begin with....75rep for something that takes actual effort to do is just insulting, doubling it still makes it pathetic.

The world quest rep rewards should be like Legion.

World quest rep reward: 150rep (300rep with event)

Elite World quest rep reward: 350rep (700rep with event)

Currently in BfA it is like this

World quest rep reward: 75rep (150rep with event)

Elite World quest rep reward: 75rep (150rep with event)

Don't get me started with the Naz'jat'tar(sp?) and Mechagnome world quests and dailies.....both give a rubblish 75rep without the rep bonus event, 1-2 story quests give 150rep, 300rep with event.

Sorry, but 150rep is just as pathetic as pre-event, its just not enough to put up with the repetitive rubbish that is daily and world quests.

I'd love to add more content being added if so. I just grined WoD factions to exalted since I am done with BfA and Legion and it was a massive pain in the *filtered*. Mostly through mob grinding or extremely limited daily quests.

I would love the reputations that are involved in enabling flying.......which we already...paid for......they might as well morph it into the normal riding training and make it free (ie. don't increase the price tag) I think the reps should be behind a 4 chapter story arc that is designed with the faction in mind and it could be a rep tier per week, taking a month to complete......that would be preferable over 3 weeks of grinding.

The racial armor man is back, as Arthur "Handclaw" Lorenz has finished up his next project! You may know him from his almost-insane project of creating racial armors for each class and race combination (almost 200 unique sets) or his more recent, but equally impressive Barrens Warfront concept (with even more themed armor sets, weapons, siege engines etc.), and possibly to a lesser extent for making a unique Icy Veins armor set for an Ogre Frost DK! And today we get some more of his brilliance, as he continues to update his "all class and race armor combos" dream, by adding the newly introduced Allied Race DKs to the mix. We also get to talk to him again after our big interview and hear the inspirations and thoughts behind the sets as well!
Also, it seems we're getting these ones courtesy of Halloween:
We're starting off with the Alliance, as we take a look at their side of the Allied Race addition (as well as a bonus Pandaren at the end):

      And on to the Horde:

There are much more detailed images for each of the races over on Handclaw's Artstation, so make sure to head on over there, and meanwhile we're just going to pick our favorite:

If any of this looked cool to you, you should absolutely check out our interview with Handclaw and the massive race/class armor sets as well.

There's been a lot of crazyness going on with level scaling and low level players doing a whole lot of damage in the Shadowlands pre-patch, and today we see the power of a level 1... in WoW Classic! Retail isn't the only place to get crazy things done, as Exehn has geared up his Rogue minimum level twink to the maximum and is out for blood! The blood of insanely higher level players, that is, as he takes down players at levels 19-21.
Obviously his survival is mostly due to the high amounts of dodge he has due to his low level and the way agility scales (and only facing off against physical damage targets), but he still gets close to dying a lot, at which point the crazy fast healing from a bandage kicks in as well. The key in this particular video, however, is the Curse of Recklessness he is casting on himself via a Horde character he is also controlling, to get his Attack Power to some crazy levels (for a lvl1) - 284.
Exehn has also made a guide video to twinking your own level 1:

This is a really great one (in more ways than one), as KamuiCosplay has recreated Bolvar's giant hammer from the Shadowlands intro cinematic in great detail! Not only does it look good, but it also changes from its original fiery state to the more frosty one (which got him beaten up by some shadow chains), lights up with a whole lot of LEDs, produces smoke and more!
The build took a whole lot of time, clocking in at 150ish hours, which makes sense when you consider it has 451 LEDs, a smoke machine, a motion sensor and weight 2.3 KG! Luckily for us, the entire process was documented and we get to check out this video with the highlights!
