WarCraft 2 Remake in WC3: Reforged

Recommended Posts

WarCraft 3: Reforged was always hoped to be a platform for potential mod remakes of the earlier games and much more creativity besides, but after the very rocky launch that seemed to fall to the wayside a bit. But now we have a really great project to look forward to, as Chronicles of the Second War, a WC2: Tides of Darkness remake is in testing and already has 4 missions ready, as well as a cool trailer!

You can download the mod, for now featuring just the first 4 missions over at HiveWorkshop!

A dedicated team is working on this awesome project and have already done a whole lot, from the new unit models, campaign implementation and so much more. You can check out their aims, features for the mod and everyone involved below:

Quote

We aim to recreate the campaign of WarCraft II in Reforged, giving it fresh gameplay, custom assets and extended lore. The project was set in
motion for years before Reforged even came out, meaning that a solid foundation is set in place. This is a tremendous task which requires a lot of
skill, resources and time. Everything is put into motion and we have a solid "pool" of assets so far. We do appreciate your support and donations
to help us compensate our efforts and dedication in delivering a fresh experience of Blizzard's old game to the newer generation.

Features:

Story will be heavy drawn from established lore in original games, World of Warcraft, Chronicles and other book series. While there
are some discrepancies when it comes to certain events and characters, we made sure to deliver a clean, straight and presentable
series of events that transpired in the second war.

Characters from the original early games will be featured in our campaign. Some will be cameos or appear in cinematics, while many
others will be playable, such as: Anduin Lothar, Turalyon, Kargath Bladefist, Grom Hellscream and many other legendary characters
from Warcraft lore who participated in the second war.

Gameplay will be greatly improved from the original game, meaning WarCraft III / Reforged style overhaul, which will include both
¨Tides of Darkness¨ and ¨Beyond the Dark Portal¨. The campaign will be story-linear driven unlike WarCraft II which depended
heavily on choosing a side and "determining the outcome of the story" as well as having cool cinematics and sidequests.

Custom Assets fitting both WarCraft II aesthetic as well as apearances from World of Warcraft will be used for units, heroes and
buildings. Meaning each Orcish Clan, Human Kingdom as well as other important faction such as Dwarves will feature many unique
models and skins. This also includes custom doodads to improve the terrain and scenery. These assets are made with attention to
their theme, for example Orcs will have Warlords of Draenor appearance, as well as the one seen in the WarCraft movie.

Techtree will of course be updated yet still keeping the feeling of to the original game. Units and heroes will have fitting abilities.
Additionally unique aspects of different factions will add a flair to the base techtree, while a completely new one will be made for
the Dwarves of Khaz Modan.

Voice Acting is important for immersion and will be featured for all characters and new Units. While our team has a mini-studio
that is suitable for a clean voice acting we are also looking for others with such setups who could contribute to the project.

The project is helmed by me (ShadiHD) & Tamplier777 and the team's roles are as follows:

Tamplier777 - core plot writing, building and unit models, voice acting, animating, triggering, mapping, lore tweaking, project assembling

ShadiHD - team & project management, custom modelling and texturing, voice acting, mapping, lore tweaking, assembling

Moonman - RMS modelling and texturing (human units, characters, doodads), icons, presentation & video montage

Bagysta - RMS modelling and texturing (orc units, characters)

Triceron - RMS + custom modelling and texturing (characters, unique units)

antontama - melee multiplayer aspects of purist WC2 gameplay, icons, project marketing, community outreach

And here's a slightly earlier  video showcasing the Orcs:

I wonder how quickly this will be shut down, cause those models were miles better than the ones that Blizz used in the Warcraft 3 reforged....it threatens their reputation.

They really need to finally bring back the custom campaign feature for stuff like this. So many months and they still haven't released it.

Microsoft posted a blog post sharing their view on the Activision Blizzard acquisition. They also revealed that Overwatch, Diablo, Call of Duty, Candy Crush, and Starcraft, are coming to the Game Pass.
The largest and fastest-growing gaming segment is mobile platforms. Microsoft is expanding choice in two ways: through the creation of Game Pass, which gives players a subscription option and by bringing more games to mobile platforms.
Developing mobile games requires new capabilities and the expertise that the teams at Activision Blizzard bring in developing mobile games will help Microsoft understand how to create games that engage players around the world.
The most important portion confirms that multiple Activision Blizzard titles will become part of the Game Pass, Diablo 4 potentially on Day 1.
"We intend to make Activision Blizzard’s much-loved library of games – including Overwatch, Diablo, and Call of Duty – available in Game Pass and to grow those gaming communities. By delivering even more value to players, we hope to continue growing Game Pass, extending its appeal to mobile phones and any connected device."
      Phil Spencer
      CEO of Microsoft Gaming
Even though World of Warcraft wasn't specifically mentioned by Phil Spencer in the blog post, it's shown in the header image. At this time, we do not know if WoW will be included in the Game Pass.

An unconfirmed internal spreadsheet with release dates of multiple Activision Blizzard titles including Dragonflight and Diablo 4 pre-purchase took Reddit by storm today.
The spreadsheet snippet accurately revealed the launch date of the Wrath of the Lich King Classic pre-patch hours before it was announced today by Blizzard.
It mentions Dragonflight pre-patch launching on October 25, 2022, with the expansion going live on November 28, 2022.
The internal spreadsheet also mentions Overwatch 2 PvP Launch on October 4, 2022, and Diablo 4 pre-purchase and game rewards going live on December 8, 2022.

Scaleface, a reputable leaker from MMO-C who accurately predicted Legion and leaked Dragonflight along with Warcraft Rumble also said Dragonflight would release in November 2022. If the leaks prove to be true, we're looking at a scenario similar to that of Shadowlands. The expansion launched on November 23, 2020.

Blizzard Entertainment has acquired Spellbreak Development Studio Proletariat to beef up the staff on World of Warcraft. Its team of 100 people will start working on WoW, including the Dragonflight expansion coming later this year, according to Venture Beat.
President of Blizzard Entertainment Mike Ybarra said in a statement that "Proletariat were a perfect fit for supporting Blizzard's mission in bringing high-quality content to the players more often."
"We are putting players at the forefront of everything we do, and we are working hard to both meet and exceed their expectations."
"A big part of caring for our teams is making sure we have the resources to produce experiences our communities will love while giving our teams space to explore even more creative opportunities within their projects. Proletariat is a perfect fit for supporting Blizzard’s mission in bringing high-quality content to our players more often.”
      Mike Ybarra
      President of Blizzard Entertainment
World of Warcraft General Manager John Hight commented that they "need to increase the frequency at which they deliver WoW updates" and that "Proletariat were an easy decision, as they have a large remote work force."
“As you probably are aware, folks in World of Warcraft have a voracious appetite for content and what we’ve seen over the last year is that we need to increase the amount of content that we can create, and the frequency with which we’re putting it in the hands of our players.”
“That’s one of the things that made this decision easy for us to start working with Proletariat, as they have a large remote work force".
      John Hight
General Manager of World of Warcraft
In response to the acqusition, the Spellbreak Development team posted an update on the future of their battle-royale game Spellbreak,
Spellbreak's development will end and servers will go offline in early 2023, as Proletariat will be fully integrated into Blizzard Entertainment in the coming months.
      Breakers,
After more than four years of elemental magic and spell combinations, we’ve made the decision to end development of Spellbreak. The servers will be shut down as of early 2023. Thank you to the millions of players who have joined us in the Hollow Lands since 2018; it’s been an amazing journey.
Our vision was to create a fresh, multiplayer action-spellcasting game with exceptional movement and class customization that would give players the chance to unleash their inner battlemage. We are grateful to everyone in the game’s community for exploring the magical worlds and experiences we created together. Spellbreak was an ambitious project that saw our team push new boundaries in design and development and we are excited to continue to innovate as we create new titles in the future.
To all Spellbreak fans around the world, thank you for the support and dedication that made the game and community so special.
      Sincerely,
      Spellbreak Development Team
Blizzard Entertainment hasn't yet provided a statement on the acquisition.

In this post, we're looking at how to find out you've been invited to a Beta!
      Step 1
Make sure to opt-in for Beta for a chance to get invited.
Dragonflight Beta Wrath Classic Beta Diablo 4 Beta (The D4 Beta says "sign up for updates" instead of "opt in for beta" which may sound confusing; thanks to @TyZone for mentioning). Overwatch 2 PvP Beta Step 2
Now that you've opted in for Beta, how do you find out you've been invited to the testing? There are two options available.
      Option 1
Launch the Battle.net app. Visit the appropriate game tab, open the "Game Version" dropdown and check if there are any new "In Development" versions available to you.
In our specific scenario, we can see "Wrath of the Lich King Classic Beta" is available for download and play, which means we've been invited to the testing.

      Option 2
Check your Battle.net email. Mails are often delayed and do not arrive at the same time when you are invited to Beta, which is why we recommend Option 1. The mail will arrive from a verified Blizzard mail address, so make sure to verify the mail address ends in "@blizzard.com" to avoid scams.

Please note that Blizzard will never ask for your password and no keys are being given away at this time that grant Beta access. Invites are currently bound to Battle.net accounts! Don't fall for anyone selling Beta keys!
