wow Total Possible Unique Combinations of Customization Options for Each Race/Gender in the Shadowlands Pre-Patch

Reddit user drflanigan looked at the new customization options introduced in the Shadowlands pre-patch from a different angle and found out Male Orcs have 9,607,511,015,424 total possible unique combinations!

In the experiment, drflanigan looked at customization options for every race and gender. Every option was counted and multiplied together, which gives us the total possible combinations for that race/gender.

All races combined apart from Female Night Elves and Orc Males, the possible combinations would be slightly more than half the Female Night Elf combinations and about a seventh of all Male Orc combinations.

At the bottom, we have the Nightborne Allied Race who have the least possible unique combinations.

The chart below shows you which Race/Gender has the most/least unique possible combinations when it comes to customization options.

If you wonder how this is possible, drflanigan explains that Orcs have 16 layers of customization and Humans have 9, which means if the Orc has 10 faces, 10 hairstyles, 10 skin colors, and 10 tattoo styles that translates into 10,000 unique Orcs. Humans with 40 faces and 40 hairstyles are 1,600 unique combinations.

Well, it’s seems interesting, but it says very little. There is a lot of colors for everything for female night elf, which makes this big number, but they have only eight face options and all of them are almost identical except one that is angry and one, that looks naive. All the others have mouth and fake smile like the Joker from Batman. And all their haurstyles are like three polygons. Even though I really like that something is hapening in these waters, it’s really underwhelming overall.

Let's be honest here. We do not play WoW for its amazing graphics, the character creation or even the gear because it looks so damn cool. We play because we're used to it. When I see MMORPGs like Black Desert Online, Final Fantasy or even Guild Wars 2 (the cities) the games look much more stunning. The entire world is breathing immersion, world of warcraft once did that, too. The huge blocky hands of male races, the odd smiles of night elfs or the absolute dog *filtered* hairstyles of most races in most cases are just... hard to handle if you ever come back to WoW after a break.

Still, I'd probably never play something else. Story > Looks, and I want to see the end of it.
