Global Release, Hidden Kills, Echo Rivalry and More: Complexity-Limit Big Post RWF Win Interview

Recommended Posts

It took a while, but I finally caught up with Complexity-Limit and had a chat about their big Castle Nathria Race to World First win over at Raider.IO. We talked about the global release and how it could be implemented, the extremely exciting final day on Denathrius with Echo, the old-school kill-hiding ways returning, their thoughts on Shadowlands systems, their back-to-back win, obviously, and many many more topics!

Here's a couple highlights, but be sure to check out the full interview over on Raider.IO.

Quote
Q: There has been a lot of discussion about a global raid release/“leveling the playing field” recently. Do you have any thoughts on how that could be successfully accomplished?

THD: You could have both regions have same resets for the first 1-2 weeks then move it back to the original dates for farm periods, but that would probably be strange to communicate to the mass of players. Blizzard could simply just change the reset times worldwide and allow cross play across regions as well - that way EU and NA players can play together. It is always a great time on the new expansion beta servers being able to play with players from other regions. Also, the tech already exists, considering NA can play with OCE and we can have 250 ping (and we realistically would only have about 100-150 playing with EU). If they ever allow cross-region play that would definitely be when they make a worldwide raid release. I would not like a tournament realm as a solution since I feel like that ruins character progression, which is incredibly important in an MMORPG.

Atlas: I’m personally an advocate for a global release, but it would be really messy for Blizzard to pull off. I sympathize with many people who play on EU that feel like they’ve been handicapped in some sense by having to start later and if I was in that position I would be quite frustrated myself.

Q: What did you think of the resurgence of the old-school off-stream prog kills/strat building? (Related to both your Council VoD and Echo’s streaming pause.)

THD: That 1 hour of no stream time where we killed the boss definitely helped because when we woke up and saw Echo not stacking for recitals and taking 30+ pulls it was pretty clear they did not put much thought into Council of Blood. However, Echo not streaming for 2 days was a bit strange and while I understand it from the view point of not wanting to release any strategies, in the end both strategies were pretty similar (outside of P2 where Echo did a more front-loaded approach and we took a slightly easier P2 that had difficulty spreading throughout the phase). If P2 was harder maybe it would’ve been beneficial, but since both our guilds were insane we pretty much came up with the same comp/strat in the end with minor differences.

Atlas: With or without a global release, streaming progression has brought about its own set of challenges. At the end of the day we are in a competition, and if there’s a substantial advantage to be had, we’ll take it. With that being said, we’re also here to provide coverage of as much of the race as we can. It feels shitty as a viewer to be locked out of being able to watch the guild you’re supporting. We turned off our streams on Council of Blood this tier and have also done so in the past when we reached N’zoth’s secret mythic phase. Usually if we’ve turned off our streams, it’s been at the end of our raid nights with about 30-45 minutes left of pulls. If there’s something substantially advantageous we can find out during that time, or if there’s a certain strategy that we don’t want to give away (see Council of Blood w/ Dark Recital and correct kill order), then we’re content with not streaming those 30-45 minutes after having already streamed for something like 13-14 hours of the day. I don’t think there’s ever a world where we’d turn off our streams for a majority of the day though; I think that just ruins the entire spectacle that is streaming the Race to World First. With all that being said, it was kind of interesting to me at least having Echo not stream Denathrius. The uncertainty of knowing where they were in the fight and what made them want to turn off their streams in the first place was really mysterious and a little anxiety-inducing for me personally.

Blizzard have clarified why players are able to get a full Spark of Awakening through the two available Splinters in the first week of Dragonflight Season 4, and it seems it's only for this week and only due to catch-up rules being enabled!
      Splintered Spark (Source)
Just want to confirm this with some details.
Everyone essentially started Season 4 in catch-up mode. Players were able to get 1 Splintered Spark of Awakening from the weekly quest, whether that’s the weekly “Last Hurrah” quest or the PvP weeklies offered by Malicia.
And then you’re able to get another splinter / half-spark from any valid catch-up sources, such as Mythic+, Awakened Raids, and PvP wins.
Next week and thereafter, only one Splintered Spark is obtainable every week. And like Seasons 2 and 3, with the increasing cap on Splintered Sparks per week, and if you ever fall behind you will be able to get Splintered Sparks from any catch-up source.

It seems there may be an easier way to obtain the Tusks of Mannoroth appearance during the Mists of Pandaria Remix event!
The tusks are one of the rarest transmogs in the game currently, even with the recently added Siege of Orgrimmar skip, as their drop rates are VERY low (0.1-0.3%, reportedly). As spotted by MrGM, the new Tusks of Mannoroth are a cosmetic appearance item added in the new limited time event. Now, some have suggested they may just be purchasable from the Bronze vendor (the currency that will drop off of pretty much anything in the event), making them pretty easy to get, but it seems there might be a different way to get them.
It's unclear whether the cosmetic will actually be purchasable or if it will drop somewhere else, but another interesting Mannoroth-related item was added as well, the Bones of Mannoroth, which may be related to the cosmetic.

As you can see the bones are a stackable resource you gain from killing Garrosh, and it's looking like they're a way to guarantee the Tusk appearance with enough kills! Just how many drop is unclear, but assuming you need all 20 for the appearance and that Normal drops 1, Heroic 2 and Mythic 3 bones, it may take at least 7 weeks to get them. Now the number required might be/is likely to be lower than the 20  stack maximum, and we may get more bones per kill.
But even at 7 weeks it's much, much easier to get than the current "hope for 0.3%" in retail, so it's still a pretty good deal! This may or may not upset players that farmed for the tusks for a long time the regular way, but there's a whole lot players that will be thrilled!
The Remix: Mists of Pandaria event starts on May 16th and should last until August 19th.

Blizzard is retiring the WoW Companion app with the release of the War Within pre-patch.
      (Source)
With the release of The War Within™ pre-expansion content update, we will no longer support the WoW Companion App. After this date, players will not be able to update, download, or use the companion app and its features.
We want to thank everyone who has used the app as their companion for their adventures over the years!

If you plan on buying the physical War Within Collector's Edition and live in Europe, you're going to have a bad time!
Blizzard has ceased distributing WoW Collector's Editions through retailers with the release of Dragonflight, making the Blizzard Store the only place to buy them. However, the shipping costs could be a dealbreaker for many collectors eager to acquire the latest edition for the upcoming expansion.
Reddit user katamai from Serbia posted a screenshot of their order, revealing that the shipping fees exceed the cost of the box itself—280 Euros for shipping compared to 200 Euros for the box, totaling 480 Euros.

Additionally, Emi, a follower on our Facebook page, reported a shipping cost of 99 Euros to Romania, nearly ten times what it costs to ship to the UK.

A practical workaround might be to order the Collector's Edition to a UK address and then use a shipping service to forward it to your address in Europe, potentially saving a considerable amount of money.
How much does it cost to ship the box to your country?
