Enthusiast Gaming Acquires Icy Veins

Recommended Posts

Icy Veins is joining the Enthusiast Gaming network. The existing team is staying on and will work with Enthusiast Gaming to maintain what you have come to expect from Icy Veins, but also develop new content and keep improving user experience.

Hello everyone,

After 10 years of operating Icy Veins as an independent website, Vlad and I have made the decision to sell the business to Enthusiast Gaming, the company that has been providing the ads on Icy Veins for the past four years. You can find out more about Enthusiast Gaming and the deal itself by reading the press release.

As part of the deal, Vlad and I will be staying on for the long term and we will work together with Enthusiast Gaming to not only maintain what you have come to expect from Icy Veins, but also develop new content and keep improving user experience.

Obviously, the money played an important factor, but the deal will also allow us to manage the site in a much more effective manner. Relieved from all administrative duties, we will be able to focus fully on the content creation part and will receive help from Enthusiast Gaming to scale up operations (particularly in terms of software development).

If you have questions, I'd be happy to answer them in the comments!

Do you plan on making a ff14 tab on icy-veins?

Ff14 really could use some general base guides like the ones you got here!

Congratulations. Hope that works out well for you. Glad to know you're sticking around, though!

Do you/Enthusiast have any immediate plans you're aiming for?

The only worry I'd have is if there's any pressure on you guys to hold back articles or tone down news on things that reflect badly on companies they advertise for.     IE Blizzard and their handling of the Hong Kong fiasco.    Or give glowing reviews on games they're advertising that don't deserve it as another example.     As long as you have free reign though it sounds fine.

All good as long as they are not super corrupt and agenda driven like Fanbyte is (wowhead).

Don't know how it's now (using adblock there), but Fanbyte at least used to have some very intrusive ads. Definitely they didn't seem like a trustworthy company to me.

Hopefully it's a good change, but what it means for the site as a whole? Is there a chance to see some abandoned categories being updated? Like Overwatch for example. If this is not going to happen, might as well remove them.

That's a possibility. One main issue Vlad and I had is that it was hard to scale up operations, because 1) recruiting staff is difficult and 2) investing money into a new section was always a big risk. With EG by our side, these become much easier. They're well equipped for recruiting staff (and for most people, working for a billion dollar company is more attractive than working for a Blizzard fan site run by 2 friends :P) and they've always invested money to develop the properties that they've added to their network. So I guess we'll see 🙂

I can't share anything right now, as we haven't finalized everything.

Overwatch doesn't lend itself to written content, so there is little chance that the section would be revived.

That is true for Overwatch 1's PvP / skill oriented gameplay, but could see a "Borderlands 3" esque section being brought to action with Overwatch 2's PvE and talent tree introductions. At the very least it allows for talent tree suggestions (one of the most popular types of pages in basically all of IV's games) and builds, as well as maybe map / achievement guides if they release some hard PvE content, which can be beaten with specific strategies (akin to our raid / dungeon guides).

Only thing missing is the loot and professions, but certainly more material than currently. So hopefully OW2 blows us up positively 😛 my wife absolutely loves the game and the insane content drought OW1 is going through right now is what is causing Blizz's sub numbers to go down imho, which does also mean OW2 could be really big if everyone comes back to see what is up!

I think it's very unlikely. We did try a SC2 section at one point, but it got almost no traffic and we didn't pursue it further.

Understandable, so will the Borderlands and Overwatch categories be removed? Since they've been abandoned for so long, it looks like there is no need to keep them around.

What's up with Wowhead/Fanbyte?  I hate how bloated wowhead is, but I don't know anything about the bigger picture.

They have websites with journalists that include political propaganda in their articles, and then they promote and link to those articles in their Wowhead mainpage news feed. Then they immediately remove comments and warn/ban users for having dissenting opinions.

Here is such a post still up on the wowhead news feed:

https://www.wowhead.com/news/fanbyte-weekly-news-picks-mortal-kombat-movie-nintendo-direct-apple-subpoenas-321098

And here is article link from that page:

https://www.fanbyte.com/news/heres-everything-you-missed-from-todays-nintendo-direct/

If you want to post junk like that, whatever. But don't then silence your users when they want to comment back about it.

Not sure if on a related note, but could you separate somehow posts (more precise spoilers) from PTR WoW from regular posts? Hard to follow and somehow skip the "less wanted" info from you, on Facebook at least.

Meeting readers at our very first BlizzCon and at Gamescom and seeing the positive messages from people who have been helped by our content over the years has always motivated us to work hard to ensure that our content is constantly evolving to new heights, both in terms of accuracy and usability, and the warmth of the community always helps to push us forward.

Cyberpunk 2077 has (finally) been launched and we have spent the past days testing and writing as much as possible to prepare our wiki for the game!
      IcyWiki and Cyberpunk 2077
For those of you that don't already know, the team here at Icy Veins started a project a while back called IcyWiki. These were wiki-style sites looking to cover a variety of games, not just Blizzard-made ones, and one of the games we were most excited to cover was Cyberpunk 2077.
I took a personal interest in the project because, frankly, I was incredibly excited for the game and had been since the first trailer popped up, and that led to me being one of the people at the forefront of the development of the site.
Now, after the game has released, I and others within the team have been tirelessly testing and playing the game, collecting information, and preparing the website for our users. The site isn't finished, especially not in terms of content, as the game has enough to cover in it that it could even rival WoW's level of depth (maybe not quite that much, but it's a lot). We will be working throughout the future to continue adding to the site and expanding the features available on it, so please, keep that in mind!
      What is Cyberpunk 2077?
For those of you that have never played the game before, nor purchased it, I would definitely recommend it (at least for PC, currently). There are some issues, as noted by the community, but overall, the game is extremely fun to play. If you want to give it a look, you can take a look at one of the many trailers released.

The game was created by CD Projekt Red, the company behind the Witcher game series, and is an FPS Action-Adventure (previously RPG). You will take on the role of V, a fully customisable mercenary (link is NSFW), who is looking to make their name in the dangerous world of Night City.
NOTE: The text below has no spoilers, but the links to certain pages do! If you do not want any spoilers for the game, do not click on the links below!
You will play through an amazing main story, but there are countless side quests and relationships to explore, weapons and armour to collect, cars to find, and so much more. The people you find and the conversations you have are directly impacted by the choices you make too, with certain relationships being locked behind certain behaviour (don't pick the wrong line!). For example, if you choose to start out as a Street Kid, you'll find new conversation lines to choose from whenever someone accuses you of lying - your word is your bond and you don't want anyone questioning it!
Lifepaths aren't the only things that can affect your journey through Night City - you'll have points to spend in attributes in skills that unlock special choices and paths in the game. Got a door that's in your way? Why not rip it open with brute force by investing into the Body attribute or hack it with your Technical Ability.
These attributes also unlock skills, similar to specialisations in WoW, that help to bolster your skills towards a certain playstyle. Want to run through Night City as a stealthy hacker? Make sure to pick up some Intelligence and Cool attributes. If you'd rather leap into the middle of a fight with Mantis Blades, then you'll need to make sure you pick up some Reflexes attribute points.

      Contributing to the Cyberpunk IcyWiki
Whatever your chosen playstyle may be, the game will definitely be great fun to play and maybe you'll end up getting as hooked as we are already!
If you do start playing the game and want to help us build the content we have on the site faster, you can do so at anytime! All of our pages are open to edits by users, so if you see anything that you feel needs changing or adding, please go ahead! All help is welcome!
If you are unfamiliar with the system and need help doing so, you can always ask in our dedicated Discord server for IcyWiki, where we will do everything we can to help you understand the system and learn how to use it. You can also give us any feedback you have for the site there.

As the League is now fully underway, those of you that are PoE veterans are likely already knee-deep in the new Heist mechanics and builds. If you're struggling to get going with understanding the new League's economy, make sure to check out the first week of analysis from The Chaos Report.
The Chaos Report is known for its extremely in-depth analysis of everything economically-related to Path of Exile and, as expected, this week's episode is no different. From Exalted Orbs to unique items to look out for, this week's episode will make sure you're making the best economic decisions you can throughout the start of the Heist League.
If you would prefer to read through a written transcript of the video, you can check that out here on PoE Vault, our sister site.
For those of you that aren't quite ready to dive into the gritty details of the League just yet, but are still interested in giving Path of Exile a try, we have numerous build guides, as well as a guide to the Heist League and its mechanics.

We've recently launched Icy Wiki, which we aim to transform into a network of high-quality gaming-related wikis for multiple game titles.
Aside from our sister site PoE Vault, we've recently launched a new website called Icy Wiki that focuses on high-quality Wiki-style content that we are planning to transform into a hub that will feature multiple game titles.
Currently, Icy Wiki includes a Diablo Immortal Wiki with everything we know about the upcoming game, and Valorant Wiki that we're almost done polishing and that will have a lot more content added to it in the near future.
We plan on expanding the list of games, and we would love to hear your feedback! Let us know which games you would like to see on Icy Wiki in the future.
You can also contribute by signing up for an account to edit the existing pages or create new ones.
