wow The Sad Reality of Yak and Brutosaur Owners and the Weird Messages They Get

We've talked a fair amount about brutosaur owners and the various ways in which they help players in Oribos, as well as the devilish tricks some use to purposefully keep everyone away from their AH and the crafty players that manage to get there anyway (and then there was that one bruto-helicopter thing...), but today we have a really funny, but actually pretty sad interaction to take a look at. While it actually happened on the transmog Yak mount, it's definitely bruto-adjacent and spawned plenty of bruto-related stories as well.

This type of thing happens on a daily basis: a player with a yak/bruto walks off because they're just playing the game and using their mount, and someone gets annoyed enough at being interrupted mid-AH/transmog that they actually message the mounted player and complain. However, this one particular player took it to the next (Karen) level, after Zckar, a yak owner, was just jumping around on their mount in Dalaran, as pretty much everyone does from time to time:

The exchange is solidly bizarre, but also most likely not that uncommon in the AH dinosaur/fashion store yak business. Zckar also mentioned they'd have happily stopped moving if asked:

Plenty of other players joined in with their own mount-convenience vendor-related stories in the reddit thread as well, including an amazing one where one player using the AH gave the bruto owner 10K gold as thanks, but then the bruto owner sent back 75K from an alt char they then deleted, so the gold would stay put!

My buddy was on his AH mount in oribos and I summoned him for a key. He got a very angry whisper afterwards. - X-Cyberfairy-X ... I always thought its a minigame where you race against time to finish transmog but you dont know when the time is up. If i cant finish it in time, well its what it is i will use the transmogifier in any major city. - derflinger1 ... I once had someone ask nicely if I could resummon it (I was about to fly away) so I did. They took like...five fucking minutes to finish their shit. This was either back in Legion or BfA, had flying already, was about to fuck right off to do my own shit. The difference is they asked nicely. Now that I'm thinking about it, there's a xmog bro in boralus like...he's right there. - LeCampy ... If someone asks politely I'll always stay for a little. One person didn't realize they could just buy it themselves, so I flew them out to buy one. Another person tried to pay me 10K gold for some reason. I tried telling them that they might as well buy the mount, they said they didn't have enough gold, but also "made" me take their gold. I took it, waited a couple days, mailed them $75k from an alt, then deleted the character. - EA_Forum_Moderator ... At the beginning of Shadowlands, moving after being AFK on a Bruto in Oribos was like lifting a rock with critters under it. - Picopus ... I always ask AH- or Mogg-Mount-People very politely if they could please stand still for a second. They usually do, I thank them and go about my merry way. Really don’t see why people behave rudely if you could just ask nicely. After all, it’s not my mount. - The_White_Queen ... As a longboi owner I've seen shit like this, not to this magnitude but I've seen many things that are similar, I was hanging out on a wow Discord and then this guy suddenly posts someone's name and realm and says "This guy is running around in Oribos with longboi, everybody harass him please" and boy am I glad people told this person to fuck off and delete the guy's name and realm, some people think they are entitled to AH Mounts and if you don't sit still for 5 hours for everyone to be pleased and be their own little personal assistance swolekin slave they get real mad, sometimes ill mount longboi and inform my surroundings how much time I'll be there to avoid people's Tears of Rage, not great - WobbySath ... I usually /yell when I’m going to Afk offline on my bruto. I’ve gotten a few 100-500g tips in the mail when I come back. Most common in covenant sanctum. - rob0tparty

The actual brutosaurs are still popping up on the Black Market AH and going for the maximum 9,999,999 amount, so there won't be that many new ones for quite a while - so maybe be nice to those that are here (even if they move)!

Yeah it's nothing new. I've met people as loopy as this all through wow's history. It doesn't take anything special.

If you look at his first message it's kind of understandable. Only the 'I'm going to report' is borderline batdroppings and I think that too becomes understandable through the fact it appears he wasn't reporting immediately, just using it as a way to become serious. 

Also note that not until his third response does poor Zckar provide anything which could even potentially improve or defuse the situation. ('you know I can use my own mount as I want, right?')

Now I'm not saying it's Zckar's fault. He could probably have improved the situation, but none of us are perfect. I also admire his ability to stay consistently humourous. Nor am I saying our unknown Karen is at all in the right. Don't think you're entitled to other people's mounts, kids. Also the transmog shop is right there.

But I also don't think the Karen is fundamentally different. He gets frustrated by Zckar. He makes a poor leap of logic and assumes Zckar is doing it on purpose. Zckar replies dismissively which makes Karen double down and hint a threat. From that point he keeps doubling down.

Don't double down on stupid, lads -- but remember we all do it.

It's not right, but I think it's understandable. There but for the grace of God go I.

Fun fact: I have been accosted by such people multiple times, as have we all. But I was once accosted by a positive karen. They told me not to waste my life, to know I had value. They blithered on for quite as long as the dude above. Wouldn't take yes or no for an answer. Was surreal.

That's rather depressing and lazy.  If you need to repair go back into town and repair or buy a stack of repair hammers.  Same thing with the Auction House.  You should never rely on other players to full fill your every whim and desire in a game.  Nor should you bully or threaten via pm's like this 'Karen' has done.

Wait, aren't Karens supposed to be conservative middle-aged women? Doesn't fit this demographic.

Anyway, people like this were always around, but with less social media around, these might have seemed like a more isolated cases.

I still think Blizzard should NOT have removed the mount.  People who Raid spend lots of Gold on Flasks, potions, and Feasts, for many of us its hard to save up 5 million Gold.  Still, it doesn't justify being mean to someone with the mount. I have yet met someone with the mount being a *filtered* and moving when they see people using their mount. Unless of course its a Horde buying from an Alliance Mount or Vice Versa, witch IMO adds to the RP of the game.

Could be both, but the impression based on what I've seen on the internet was that it was someone on the older side, rather poor and not exactly up to date on things, who you would find raging or complaining about something at your local supermarket. So certainly not someone who would play a game like this.

Well i find nothing really bad about using these mounts from other players but the simple fact is its their mount and its their ingame time and they paid for it so its up to them to decide what they do with their time in game.

But its amazing what u can archive if you just ask nice if they would hold still for a moment so u could use their mount. I mean worst case they ignore you or say no but i experience often they hold still for a moment and after i am done i thank them.

But nowadays the internet is just a toxic hell why be nice if you want someting from others when u can go full karen?

More like the defining feature of a modern Karen is being entitled. Either to something (from their PoV, and if that something is material, being more entitled to it than even the owner), acting like one owes them something, because usually it goes hand-in-hand with being egocentic and outright demanding something they feel priveledged about.

I guess you can pin some blame for their widespread appearance on radical feminists (only radical, ain't nothing wrong with the feminism in general), who tend to preach about having empowerment and having rights (with little about those still being equal to anyone else's, and the need to respect those), and when it reaches the wrong kind of person, you end up with a Karen.

The case above, they seem entitled to the use of the mount they do not own regardless of the owner's thoughts, and going for reporting toxic behavior simply because their gameplay is getting 'ruined' by a person simply minding their own business.

It appears to me like they both have some things they could have worked on.

The complaining player could have been a lot more gracious to be using a mount with a luxury that they don't have or were otherwise too lazy to attain themselves.  The Yak player didn't have to have the mount out at all, but the complaining player was fortunate enough to be there when he did.

The Yak player, on the other hand, could have had the common courtesy to see if anyone was using it before he started bouncing about.  Sure, he has every right to do what he wants with it, in my opinion, but it seems to me it would be more acceptable to acknowledge those around him and what they may be doing with his mount since he seemingly knows other players may possibly be using it as well, even if they have no "right" to.

I do think the complaining player overreacted quite a bit, but the yak player did little to help mitigate the situation - in fact he almost seemed to instigate it a bit.  While both of them had varying participation in the encounter, I feel like they both contributed to a toxic situation and they both could have handled themselves differently.

In the end, it's a game and it kind of blows my mind that people take this sort of thing so seriously.  Players will put such merit into what 'cyber strangers' on the internet say, get offended by their actions and then react in kind, but I'd be willing to wager they have much more tenacity for such things in real life social encounters where they shouldn't.

For me, both of these people would probably have gotten a "[sigh] Whatever..." and I would have moved on.

(yeah bluetooth blabla i'm trying to make a point) Now you're walking through the street going about your business. Then someones runs after you, and is a complete *filtered* about trying to use your wifi hotspot while you are moving away from them. Would you be like "Oh I'm sorry, I didn't know someone was using it because I was too stupid to look around in my phone for other people who are using it. Of course I will stay around until you have finished your business." ?
