A final look at the most popular DPS specializations in the ongoing Mythic+ Season.

Mythic Season 2 starts next week so it's time to look at the most popular DPS specializations in Mythic+ one final time!

DATA RELIABILITY: The data used in this article comes from benched.me. Reddit user OtherwiseUniversity7 plotted all keys available from the Blizzard API (excluding the CN region) on a single ridge plot to gather the data.

This Week's Affixes (Week of June 28)

The following affixes are active this week:

  • Fortified
  • Bursting
  • Storming
  • Prideful

Player Activity

The following figure shows the number of Mythic+ runs recorded each week since Shadowlands Season 1 started. This week, players have completed 113K runs so far.

Total Runs Recorded

Here are all the runs recorded from the beginning of Mythic Season 1 until now. We use the data further to determine the most popular ranged and melee DPS specializations.

Most Popular Melee DPS for Mythic+

The most popular melee DPS specialization in Season 1 is Havoc Demon Hunter with almost 4 million completed runs. Second is Unholy Death Knight with 3,5 million runs, and third is Fury Warrior with over 3,38 million.

The bottom 3 includes Assassination Rogue with just 596K runs, Feral Druid with 678K, and Frost Death Knight with 845k runs.

  • 1st: Havoc Demon Hunter - 3,918,045 runs
  • 2nd: Unholy Death Knight - 3,548,419 runs
  • 3rd: Fury Warrior - 3,383,060 runs
  • 4th: Outlaw Rogue - 3,380,881 runs
  • 5th: Windwalker Monk - 2,856,664 runs
  • 6th: Retribution Paladin - 2,811,076 runs
  • 7th: Arms Warrior - 1,864,254 runs
  • 8th: Enhancement Shaman - 1,577,889 runs
  • 9th: Subtlety Rogue - 1,129,165 runs
  • 10th: Frost Death Knight - 845,571 runs
  • 11th: Feral Druid - 678,794 runs
  • 12th: Assassination Rogue - 596,035 runs

Detailed Look at Spec Performance

The meta starts to kick in at around +16, where most specs start losing their share of representation to the metaclasses. Some non-meta specs stay stable in mid-range keys and only begin disappearing at higher levels.

Share of Melee DPS Specs at Each Key Level (Weekly Top 500 Runs)

To see how the meta changes during the season, we sample the top 50 runs for each dungeon (a total of 6,000 keys) for each week. Next, we count the number of times each spec appears in the weekly top 500 sample.

The data has a zig-zag quality to it. Spec numbers go up and down each week, which is the Tyrannical/Fortified split effect. On Tyrannical weeks, pushers are likely to bench their meta-class mains and play non-meta alts.

The least popular ranged DPS are Demonology Warlock (680K), Arcane Mage (875K), and Destruction Warlock (2,06 million) runs.

  • 1st: Marksmanship Hunter - 7,962,338 runs

Blizzard have added clarifications and some corrections for the recently detailed class sets for the first tier of Dragonflight, with Evokers, Paladins and Shamans getting the corrections while Monks, Demon Hunters, Hunters, Mages, Warlocks and Shamans get more details for how their sets work.
      Sets (Source)
Thank you all for your feedback on and discussion around the new Class Set bonuses. It’s helpful to read your concerns as we continue to work on them, and we want to take a moment to share some clarifications and updates. The updates in this post aren’t everything we’re working on - we’ll share more as we make progress.
We’d like to start with a note on tuning. Class tuning is ongoing, and some bonuses are farther along in the tuning process than others. That said, feedback on tuning is still valuable, especially around how bonuses affect your rotation or how often they’ll be active.
      Next, some corrections:
The Preservation Evoker (2) Set Bonus will increase the critical heal chance of Reversion by 25%, not 5%. The Protection Paladin (4) Set Bonus was missing some values. It should read “Casting Hammer of the Righteous / Blessed Hammer increases your Parry by 4% for 10 seconds and extends the duration of Versatility of Light by 1.0 seconds.” The Elemental Shaman (2) Set Bonus should be 2.5%, not 2-3%. The Elemental Shaman (4) Set Bonus should include Elemental Blast. This has been corrected. In general set bonuses will affect talented abilities that replace other abilities. Here are some more details about how some bonuses work:
The Enhancement Shaman (4) Set Bonus only affects abilities that are on cooldown. We’re aware that Fire Blast does not benefit from the Fire Mage (4) Set Bonus critical strike bonus - we formatted it that way for brevity. We may revise it to separate the bonuses. The Affliction Warlock (4) Set Piece grants 40% increased damage to one cast for each charge of Cruel Epiphany - the damage bonus does not stack. We’ll try to revise the description to make this clearer. The Vengeance Demon Hunter (4) Set Bonus activates at the same rate whether you are using Spirit Bomb or Soul Cleave. You will not have to talent into Spirit Bomb to maximize its value. The Mistweaver Monk (4) Set Bonus only extends the duration of Renewing Mist once for each Essence Font bolt - it does not trigger from Essence Font healing over time. There is currently a bug preventing Essence Font bolts from Faeline Stomp from activating the bonus, but we’ll fix that. One of the things we’re keeping an eye on is: bonuses that have too much influence on your talent choices or build. For instance, we’re changing the Frost Mage bonus to not empower Frost Bolt so specifically:
      (2) Set Bonus: Ice Lance and Frozen Orb damage increased by 10%. (4) Set Bonus: Consuming Fingers of Frost increases spell damage by 8% for 6 seconds. We’re looking forward to sharing more as we continue refining these bonuses. Thank you so much!

Players on the Beta have been noticing some slowdowns and stutters before the recent maintenance, and since it is a Beta didn't think too much of it. However, it seems at least some of those issues may have been caused by a gigantic cluster of protodrakes!
Plenty of players noticed this skinner's dream in the Waking Shores and Thaldraszus, starting with some screenshots and then culminating in a nightmare-inducing video, as the drakes fly off in search of their next victim.
If you wanted to check if the flock was still there, here's the location, but they also seem to be appearing in the Veiled Ossuary in Thaldraszus. There were also plenty of hilarious comments on the posts, so here's some of them:
I always knew the villain of the expansion was going to be the Infinite Dragonflight. - Bioslack
      ...
Somebody messed up a "for" loop. - Zammin
      ...
Even with Survival Instincts, Barkskin, and Rage of the Sleeper up all at once, I popped like a fucking grape within 3 seconds, lol. They all seem to cast something that deals ~22k damage baseline. I was able to use Anhylde's aegis to survive for 8 seconds and managed to get most of the group to like 70% health, but... again, popped like a grape once the aegis was gone. - Etamalgren
      ...
One starfall and a raid full of skinners is what that pile needs. - Kambhela
      ...
That is what they call in Dragonic Biology, a "Dragon Ball". - ReysonBran
      ...
New Dragonflight bug feature: in-game GPU stress test. - dafino

The XP buff has arrived (to NA at least, with EU getting it with tomorrow's reset)! It's time to level any new characters you had planned or old ones that aren't maxed yet, as the 50% buff will only last until the Dragonflight pre-patch. And while we don't yet know when exactly that will arrive, it's not too far away, with the expansion's release coming in under 2 months!
      Winds of Wisdom (Source)
If you’re just returning after a hiatus from World of Warcraft, leveling another character (or two), or preparing to get ready for the Dragonflight expansion then this is the perfect time to jump into the game. Beginning the week of October 4 with each region’s local weekly reset, all World of Warcraft* players level 10-59 will gain the experience buff called “Winds of Wisdom,” which will increase experience gains by 50%!
Don’t delay. The winds will shift once more when the new dracthyr Evoker becomes playable during the Dragonflight pre-expansion patch, and the experience buff will no longer be available.
      * Experience boost not available in World of Warcraft Classic titles.

Even though Dracthyr Evokers start at Level 60, Blizzard added some new intro quests in Dalaran for players that decide to go back and do Legion content for some reason.
Dracthyr Evokers do not get an Artifact weapon or Class Order Hall. When you decide to skip the Legion intro you will end up in Dalaran. A new quest will automatically pop up for Evokers called Aiding Khadgar. You are tasked to meet Khadgar within the Violet Citadel. Khadgar will have another new quest for you -- An Adventurer's Aid, where he points you to a new scouting map. The map lets you pick a Legion zone for questing. Blizzard will most likely assign Evokers an existing DPS/Healer challenge. However, the Mage Tower appears to be disabled currently on the Beta. MrGM explored Evokers in Legion content further in his latest video.
